Looks complete to me.  I gather the Dead World will be the last 2012 tie-in :-(  Presumably to allow for future tie-ins to be Judge Dredd: Mega-City One based...

Yeah, it's solicited with following description so you're likely spot on:

Quote...and we return the world of the movie DREDD for the last of the comic-book sequels "The Dead World" by Arthur Wyatt, Alex De Campi and Henry Flint as entities from another dimension emerge in Mega-City One.

Shame, I really enjoyed the pocket universe sprung off from the film. Hopefully they'll revisit it down the road in additional tales in JD Megazine.

I'm a big fan of the 2012 Dredd film, and have been collecting the sequel/Prequel comic stories to the film as the come out. Just wanted to verify and see if I'd missed any.

So far, as far as I know, there's been:

Dredd - Top of the World, Ma-Ma
Dredd - Underbelly
Dredd - Uprise
Dredd - Dust
Dredd - Furies
Anderson - The Deep End
Anderson - Judgement Call
Dredd - The Dead World (forthcoming)

Did I miss any, or is that the whole list so far? Just trying to make sure my collection is complete. :)

"Prog 2050 is a bumper-sized 48pp jumping-on issue, featuring a whole new roster of stories. Celtic barbarian Slaine battles the gods that seek to enslave mankind in 'Archon' by Pat Mills and Simon Davis; transdimensional troubleshooters Indigo Prime are back in 'A Dying Art' by John Smith and Lee Carter; there's war on Earth for the Exo Transfer Squads in Grey Area: 'Homeland Security' by Dan Abnett and Mark Harrison; plus a special one-off Rogue Trooper story from Starman and Scarlet Witch writer James Robinson, and much more!"

Nice! Thank you for the heads up!

As the title says, just wondering if there's been any mention from the powers that be on when Slaine will return to the prog for Brutania Chronicles IV: Archon arc? Know Mills is a busy guy with all the other stories he's writing, but dying for more Slaine and can't get enough of Davis' art. And seeing as the Brutania Chronicles arcs seem to release on average yearly, it's about that time. ;)

Damn you Rebellion! That does look a very nice looking package indeed. But having bought the equally nice looking single issues....

Just a thought; I wonder if that's the end of the Dredd movie strips, now its all been collected into one trade? Or still more to come at some point?

I'd think its likely we'll see more Dredd film spin-off comics. The Underbelly and Uprise issues sold really well over here in the States if I recall correctly (they collected the strips from the progs into one issue for Underbelly and two issues for Uprise), so I'm sure they'll want to print more, especially since the sequel doesn't look like its going to happen (keeping my fingers crossed though).

Hi,

You're in luck.

There is one called Dredd:Uprise by Underbelly writer Arthur Wyatt, and Art by Paul Davidson.

Excellent! Thanks for the responses and passing along the news! Looking forward to it, and hope this means they'll continue doing occasional Dredd comic sequels. Looking forward to it!

So loved Dredd, and have downloaded the prequel comic "Top of the World, Ma-Ma" and own the comic sequel "Underbelly".

Has 2000AD announced any plans for future comic sequels to the film? While I'd love to see a film sequel, if that ends up not happening I'd happily buy any future comics set in the Dredd movie continuity.

And given Underbelly selling out quite quickly when it was released over here in the US, I'd be quite surprised if 2000AD doesn't plan on doing more. I could understand they may want to hold back some in case a sequel does happen (so as not to step on its toes or cover similar ground to a proposed sequel script), but at the same time the tales are pretty self-contained, so I don't see continuity being a big problem.

So yeah, just wondering if anyone's heard any inklings of future Dredd comic sequels by 2000AD. And would you like to see more of these comic continuations of the film verse?

As for the Daily Star strips, I just ordered all 5 volumes of the collections. But don't these only cover the first 5 years or so? Didn't the strip run into the 1990's?

Also, is there an up to date timeline for the Dredd-verse? I realize for the most part it's self-explanatory, but just wondered if someone had an up to date chronology of the Dredd tales between 2000ad, Megazine, and Annuals, etc? I suppose it's a bit of a moot point since most of the stuff from the mags is being reprinted in order in the Case Files, but with the specials and annuals being reprinted separately in the Restricted Files, I just wondered how they overlap.

I've found several timelines on the web, but most haven't been updated in about a decade. I found a post here on the site with a complete list and chronology of all the tales from 2000, Megazine, specials and annuals, but it only goes up to 2008 and I'm not sure if the tales are in chronological order
(in terms of events in the Dredd universe) or just ordered based on release date. I realize for the most part the tales can be read however and whenever, but I'm a stickler for details.

I'm overthinking it, aren't I?

Anyway, about to begin Vol 2 of the Case Files and jump into the Cursed Earth (with the cut chapters printed from online to sate my completist approach).

What about those Daily Star newspaper strips? Are there any plans for Rebellion to reprint those?

Once again, very informative, thanks.

And Doug's Dredd Reckoning blog is already becoming an oft used tool of mine regarding Dredd. Love the reviews, and the blog has also helped lay out the world of Dredd for me.

Really looking forward to checking these tales out, even some of the crappier ones (if for nothing else to see the tales at both ends of the spectrum).

Figure I'll work my way through the Case Files, Restricted Files, and the Anderson Psi Files, then start looking into the spin off material.

Thanks, guys.

One more...

About the Daily Star newspaper Judge Dredd strips... I know 5 Volumes were released way back when, and have seen more than a few requests for Rebellion to start collecting the DS strips in a completionist/omnibus approach akin to the Complete Case Files and Restricted Files.

Anything new on that front? I've always been interested in reading these to see how they compare in terms of story and tone with the regular prog and Meg tales, since the space and length of the daily strips was much shorter. Concerning the DS strips, were they wholly original stories, adaptations of the stuff in the progs, a combination of original and adaptations? Always wondered about that.

Thanks to you all for the informative responses. And no worries about spoilers, I don't mind. Sometimes they're helpful in the sense of knowing what's to come can help flesh out symbolism, satire, and other story-telling techniques that may not be apparent on a first read.

That said, I'm a terribly motivated completist, and will be funneling quite a bit of my cash to 2000 AD for their vast backlog of graphic novels.

Thanks again, folks.

And please, keep the conversation going concerning the connections (obvious and apparent to sketchy and tenuous) between Dredd's world/universe and the other 2000 AD titles (and any other related stories, crossovers, novels, audio dramas--are those any good?--video games, the stuff from Dice, etc).

General / 2000 AD / Judge Dredd - Newb questions
22 February, 2012, 11:03:30 PM
From time to time I'd pick up a 2000 AD prog or JD Megazine at my local comic shop (in the US). I was drawn to the grittier world of Dredd and Mega City 1. However, being a completist, I was reluctant to dive into Dredd's world for fear of never getting the "whole story" per se.

Then I recently discovered the Complete Case Files series reprinting all the 2000AD and Megazine material in chronological order. I was sold. I've only picked up the first two volumes so far (the Rebellion UK editions), and am about halfway through Vol 1. Even without the long epics Dredd is known for, Vol 1 is a fun slice of Dredd stories early years. Looking forward to Vol 2's Cursed Earth story. I even went to the trouble of printing out the Burger Wars and Soul Food stories so I could read the entire tale.

This leads me to my first question:

Besides Burger Wars and Soul Food, are there any other missing Dredd tales unlikely to be reprinted in the Case Files? I know Annuals and Specials are available in the Restricted Files series, and the Anderson / Psi Div stuff is being collected as well. But for instance, will The Dead Man story be collected in the Case Files, or should I pick up the separate trade (once I get that far, that is).

Secondly, what is and isn't considered Dredd/Meg Cit 1 canon? Obviously most, if not all stories from the progs, Megas, and Annuals & specials, but what about the spin off stuff like the novels and audio plays (since some of the audio series stuff draws on established Dredd canon stories and makes an effort to concretely place themselves on the timeline)?

As a continuation of the previous question, what about the spin off and crossover material? I know Strontium Dog, ABC Warriors, Harlem Heroes, etc all supposedly exist in the same continuity, but what else takes place in the universe of Mega City 1 and 2, Texas City, Brit Cit, etc?

I know most of the newer stuff hasnt been collected yet, but are there any other tales unlikely to be reprinted?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
