Just wondering: who's going to Mecon 7, then?

For those of you not in the know, Mecon is the annual convention of the Queen's University of Belfast SF&F Society, taking place from Friday 5th to Sunday 7th.

The comics guests are Paul J. Holden and Glenn Fabry, both of whom I've met before; sterling chaps and always up for a sketch or a signing!

Plus there's the chance to meet top authors Robert Rankin, John Meaney, Ian McDonald. And some hack whose name escapes me at the moment.

The missus and I are making a weekend of it (we're planning to get there nice and early on Friday to take advantage of the city's numerous top comics shops) so I'm hoping to meet up with some of you guys there...

sounds good! I can`t go due to being on the other side of the globe, but have fun. Give my regards to Fabry and Rankin (if he`s the one who writes the Rebus detective novels. If he isn`t that one then I don`t know who he is)

Cthulouis

could you be thinking of Ian Rankin? dont know if thats right, but Robert Rankin doesnt write Rebus novels, and its always annoying when I see Ian Rankins books, as at first glance I always miss read the name. youd think Id know better by now

Buddy

I'll be about town on Saturday. I try and pop in to Queens.

Glenn Fabry it says, what are the chances he actually turns up!

Sober!

As for the citys top comic shops, that'll be Forbidden Planet and Impulse comics (since Dark Horizons burnt down).

You might want to take a look at Crosshatch (in Smithfield Arcade, ask at Forbidden Plant if you can't find it).

Crosshatch do original comic art and is worth a look.

Robert Rankin writes the Brentford books (among other things). Check out the link below for more about him. I've known Robert for many years now, and he's a nice chap.

Mad as hatter, mind you, but nice.

Curses!

I *always* forget about Mecon or get the dates wrong.Consequently,it's another no show for Mikey.

Fek and indeed,Arse.

Some kind soul could get Glen Fabs to do us a Slaine sketch?

To tell the truth, you can all get screwed.

My god. I'd LOVE to meet Robert Rankin. I picked up Apocalypso a few years ago and have since read anything of his I can get my grubby little mits on.

Wonderful writer. Though I'm not that surprised he's a little barmy!!!

Dunno, sounds suspiciously like a made up name. Who would do such a crazy thing?

MIKE COLLINS

Um- who are you and why do you link to my profile page?

I'm going!

I've met Rankin before, as well as Glenn, and that other guy...

Rankin is one of the nicest, if not mental, people I've ever met. He is quite happy to talk toot for a length of time to a sad fanboy.

Mike Carroll

Who am I? Er... I dunno.

There appears to gave been a mix-up of some kind! (Or should that be Micks-up?)

I'm Michael Carroll, and this is not the first time I've been confused with a Michael Collins: the cover of one of my books, which I created myself, was incorrectly credited to a Michael Collins on the back cover, too late for me to change it!

I will now attempt to sort out my profile thingy...

Apologies for any confusion (that is, any confusion related to this matter: I can't take responsibility for any other confusion that might be happening n the universe).

MIKE COLLINS

'Micks-Up'... that deserves a prize...I think the similarity in names made the on-site software give you my drunken face. Apologies from me to you!

BTW... Talking about names, have you done the 'Google-your-own-name-when-bored-at-lunch' thing?

I'm an astronaut, a folk singer, a US football coach, and best of all-- a cocktail and a gay porn star!
