When it comes to games, GTA Vice City is still unmatched IMO.
Flash FM is a personal favorite.

I find most fantasy games have enjoyable soundtracks. Fable, The Elder Scrolls and World Of Warcraft all receive regular air time in the Supreme household

I'd like to lob Clint Mansell into the mix, specifically Moon, The Fountain, United, and Black Mirror.

There was a thread on this very subject some time ago but my choice hasn't changed;

I also love the strings on The Big Country;

I also dig Clint Mansell (PWEI fan joke there) and I agree with Woolly that the end theme to The Sweeney is brilliant if not the saddest tune you will ever hear!
"Give a man a mask and he will give you the truth."

Tony Angelino

Assault on Precinct 13 has many similarities to Schifrin's score to Dirty Harry (Scorpio's Theme in particular) but it's just not quite as good.

I think both were also influenced by a Led Zeppelin tune named Immigrant Song. Give each a listen and you will notice some similarities.

Also by Lalo Schifrin is probably the greatest ever movie theme song:

Dawn Of The Dead is a classic

Django, prepare a Coffin (this was later sampled by Gnarls Barkley, forget the song's name)

True Grit (the original and best)

And finally for when you want to get an elephant from Germany to Switzerland

I absolutely love the Assault on Precinct 13 soundtrack - fairly minimal and deliberately repetitive, but it makes one hell of an impact. That said, I think the standout track is the quietest one, 'Julie' - maybe my favourite bit of Carpenter.

I've got a lot of time for the Escape From New York title track too though.

Away from Carpenter, when it comes to horror movie soundtracks, Fabio Frizzi is the man:

Carpenter is a real class act when it comes to scoring.  I don't think some directors fully appreciate how much of a difference it can make.  For me, the best evidence of this is Legend (the Tom Cruise film).  The Tangerine Dream soundtrack makes it a completely different film for me to the orchestrated version.  Vangelis' work for Blade Runner is another classic example.  I heard the soundtrack for Tron Legacy long before I saw it but it was amazing how well it worked when I finally did.

I really can't fault a lot of the selection here, there is some class work listed.  It goes without saying that you have the classic 80's TV selection.  Surely we have to add in Space: 1999, Blakes 7, UFO and Dr Who?  Not to forget B5 either?  I would also throw Gattaca into the mix along with Interstellar and Road to Perdition.  The first and last are, to my mind, particularly evocative.

Whilst most of the soundtracks I'm into are from the 70s or 80s, my favourite piece of the last 5 years has to be the title track from Pacific Rim. A distinctive, hefty, action-packed theme, perfectly suited to the subject matter.

I bought the Flash FM CD when the game was released and still listen to it to this day.

Love Toni. "The world is our ashtray".

Alien : Isolation is fab. A throwback to Goldsmiths original movie score. Very atmospheric, just don't listen to it at bedtime!

I used to share a flat (way back in thelate 80s) with a guy who collected soundtrack albums. I always thought it a bit weird, because he had ones from films he didn't like and musicians he didn't like - but he sure had a lot of them!

Occasionally we'd put on the Paris:Texas album because his dog Tara would sing (ie howl) along. She did the same with the theme from the Antiques Roadshow or anything with a lot of harmonica, so I don't think it was a crirtique of Ry Cooder
