Where did she go? Out. What did she do? Everything. Created by Alan Moore and Ian Gibson, Halo Jones lived on a floating housing project off the coast of Manhattan in the ?? Century. Bored of her life on the Hoop, which could be as dangerous as it was mundane, she dreamt of escape aboard luxury space-liner, the Clara Pandy - but her journey to the stars was no dream. One of the greatest all-time 2000 AD characters, Halo continues to delight and inspire, almost 40 years after her debut.
The deadline for entries is 9pm GMT on Friday 18th October

It's a great image of one of the few episodes of genuine happiness in Halo's story ballad, and the detail of the shoe slowly falling out of shot is just... where's that heart emoji when you need it?

I've just noticed that Halo's in her gravity-protection battlesuit. And it looks like a McMahon citiblock. Perfect.
Love Dilworth's stuff too, especially the first one - it's very much like what the early Megazine seemed to be aiming for, artwise, but better.

What a comp. One of the best I've seen. The quality has been amazing all round but for me it has to be Chasen9ne; despite the style being completely different from Gibson's it captures the spirit of the series perfectly.
Agreed, it's amazing - i'm also a big fan of the entries by Eoin Stephens, Mi Jei and Dan Wats. To be honest, I like almost every pic. Sad this one has to end, it's been a real treat - reminiscent of ye olden Art Comps!
It's been a rare pleasure to see all the great art. I prefer renditions of Halo where she's not holding a gun as (aside from becoming a solider in Book III), she wasn't a gun-toter.
These are my favorites of all the wonderful art on offer:

I've just realised that the design behind her in your top middle one is The Hoop. Brilliant.
There's still lots more that haven't yet been seen - you've only just glimpsed the tip of the iceberg!
Thanks for your kind words though!
Time for more :D

We'll be announcing a new competition soon - and also sharing all the other fantastic Halo entries that we haven't yet seen on this thread/the FB page over the next few days ☺️
Thank you so much to all who entered and made the Halo theme one of the most memorable and varied so far....!
Excellent choices for winner, runner-up and hon. mensh - can't have been easy to choose, so congrats all! And many, many thanks to Owen for keeping this one flowing, it's been great.
Well done all. First and second place are exactly as i'd chosen too. Honourable mention well deserved as well . Now let's see Dan Chase do a prog cover!
EDIT: And I've just noticed The Hoop in the winning pic too! Truly arsom
Absolutely the best choice for first prize. What a great comp! Looking forward to seeing what's next.
Congratulations...
It must have been a real difficult choice with so many great pieces.
Outstanding choice. The quality of what was submitted this time round really was something special but I think that real credit has to go to everyone who submitted anything after the winning entry was submitted. It set the bar incredibly high at such an early stage in the process.
My pick for the best got runner up, but the winner is truly gorgeous.
The winner is gorgeous in that retro sci-fi poster way. I've only just realised that it tells the story of Halo's journey from the Hoop via the Clara Pandy and Toby's attack to the war in a very skilfull leading of the eye. So it has a real emotional punch as well.
Everybody did great with some interesting takes but that's a worthy winner.
Out of interest, does anybody know where the name Clara Pandy came from? All I can think.of is a mashup of silent era stars Clara Bow and Louise Brooks (PANDora's Box). But that's me clutching...

Para Handy? Is that just (rather good) speculationising, or has the Magus ever offered it up?
I'd always vaguely thought of Tonypandy as inspiration, what with riots looming over her fate. Although obviously in the comic itself Clara Pandy is a named for a famous woman of Brinna's acquaintance. (Others long for Book IV, I pine for a Young Brinna prequel).

Like Damon Lindelof, I feel I just sort of know what Moore thinks.

As long as you're clear that this is what ALAN MOORE thinks, the ALAN MOORE that also wrote Watchmen, whose intentions regarding the future treatment of ALAN MOORE's work (including Watchmen) are mysterious, even deliberately ambiguous, to this very day, except to you.
I always just assumed Clara Pandy was a reference to Para Handy but that doesn't mean the name can't also be a reference to something else an' all.
I'm delighted with the choice of winner. It's brilliant.
Ah, I had assumed that VITAL SPARK was one of those "World Famous in Scotland" things (like Sydney Devine) so didn't think it would have reached Northampton.
You're mentally humming "Tiny Bubbles" now, aren't you
I'm not sure the TV series ever got a network broadcast, but the show was based on a successful series of books*. If there's one thing The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen has taught us, it's that Alan Moore was the kind of kid with multiple library cards.
* The film The Maggie was also based on Munro's books, although the names were changed
Cheers for the comments chaps - and the obscure-yet-vital Mooreknowledge is always good.
The new theme will be with us next week, until then - all the entries for the Halo theme can be seen in our Facebook gallery (click here (https://www.facebook.com/pg/2000adartcomp/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1246782128837343)) and we'll share some of the best of them on here over the next few days :)
Another unseen entry highlight, this one from Roger Blake entitled "Recurring Nightmare"
