Spent yesterday in a brilliantly stormy and atmospheric Hastings.
Always pleased to see that Albion Bookshop is still going and is still filled with tons of secondhand books, annuals and comics.
Picked up for a quid two Beanos for the kids and a Prog for myself from the wilderness couple of years when i abandoned it.
Get home and,  ;D , its got Rampots in it.
Never seen the finished version before, only know it from the John Wagner script and Jock's prelims that i own.
So its been real interesting to see how the final version differs in composition from the original roughs.
Was quite suprised to see that the script altered too. I'd have thought that that would have been set in stone?

The Justice department has a good re-education programme-it's called five to ten in the cubes.

hey eric -

i remember that was one of the few times the script got edited down - andy diggle was editor at the time and he checked with john to see if it would be okay. it was after a phone conversation i had with andy where we talked about there being a little too much information (at the end if i remember correctly?) so we cut it to finish with dredd on a classic 'arrest' panel. it hopefully tightened it up a bit.

funnily enough, i've just dug out a load of old 2000AD layouts and cover sketches from my garage today - including character designs for the next Lenny Zero story we had planned. if i get a chance i'll scan some in and post them here.

Hey back at'cha Jock.
Yup, you're right - as well as some minor dialogue changes, the tale is missing its last two panels, which show how Bill Nerd's actually let off of doing time and ends with a pissed off Dredd.
As you say, the finished version is a better, more in-keeping ending.
Prelims for the proposed Zero you say?
That'd be good to see.
Especially as its been (blimey) 7 years since i got a taster:

yeah, ZERO's SEVEN. we had it all planned out with the first 5 pages of script and layouts all done... here's a few of the character designs -- SHUGGY BEAR was a favorite, but he clearly needs a bigger gut.

there's also a key frame from the aborted MTV/2000AD animation, of Durham Red.

+ i have more cover sketches i've found -i'll post them when i get the chance.

Kinda feels a bit redundant praising someone as talented as Jock (well actually that's abit of a rubbish thing isn't it...anyhoo) that Kano ROCKS!

Mike Gloady

Jock, thanks for this.  And one day we'll get that promised Lenny Zero return, right?

RIGHT?

God, this is like when I was told there wasn't an Easter Bunny, a Father Christmas OR a birthday tramp!
