General / Shop Service
« on: 08 January, 2018, 07:22:05 pm »
Like quite a few boarders, I've purchased quite a few items from the Tooth shop.  May well be that i've been fortunate but I've always been privileged to receive first rate service from them.  Which is why I was slightly more than a little surprised when the bookplate Fall of Deadworld I ordered failed to arrive.  This is where I've discovered exactly what their service is like.  No quibble, no fuss, no arguments, just got on and sorted it out.  Then the replacement failed to materialise!  Wondered if there was something odd going on and got in touch.  Again.  No problems, no arguments, just got on and sorted it out.  I'm going to single out Oliver for his sterling service here and heartily recommend them.  Not that this is anything new to most of us but I do think it's a welcome reminder of how well served we've been over the years and long may it continue.

Cheers Guys.

This is most likely a really daft request but does anyone happen to have a copy of this publication from Hibernia that they would be willing to part with for a reasonable price?

Help! / Fall of Deadworld Bookplate
« on: 06 December, 2017, 03:32:17 pm »
Just wondering if anyone else ordered this, had a dispatch email and has actually received theirs yet?  IIRC something similar happened with either Last American or Summer Magic where there was quite a lag between the email and delivery.  Not so much a case of the mail service from the Oort Cloud as it was that the email was automatically generated when someone was thinking about packing the books and there was still quite a delay before they got round to sending them.  Not completely willing to discount the posties mind as I'm still waiting on the most recent Mega Collection volumes which seem to take longer and longer to arrive each month. Seriously questioning whether I want to carry on past 80, but that's another discussion altogether.

Seeing the news on this, I have to admit to being a tad torn.  Including the colour spreads makes it a bit tempting but then again the Titan Hardbacks (missing poppy notwithstanding) are a thing of beauty.  Now if Rebellion had decided to release a hardback 100th Anniversary edition with the colour spreads, as a box set even, then I'd have my slightly well worn kidney on eBay in a heartbeat.

General / 15 reasons not to bother with CBR anymore

1.  Everything is either 15 reasons .... or 15 memes ...

Actually, you know what, that's it!  Used to be vaguely interesting and had the odd snippet of news (okay, stuff I hadn't seen by that point).  Now it just seems to be poorly constructed click bait.  Or am I just being overly cynical?

Stumbled across this little gem this morning. Looks like a nice little line up for the new year.  The meg listing looks especially enticing. Solicitations for January for tooth.  MovieDredd Dark Judges, Cursed Earth Koburn, Lawless ... oh my!

Off Topic / Manic Lyric Thread
« on: 26 September, 2017, 07:59:13 pm »
Okay, so here is the challenge.  To generate a thread solely by the use of bizarrely associated lyrics.  What can the hive mind come up with to move the thread forward?

"Here I stand, foot in hand, talking to my wall."

Talk about a major nostalgia fest.

This has got to be the greatest idea to date.

Prog / Prog 2042 - Beware the Hollow Men.
« on: 29 July, 2017, 12:42:42 pm »
Posties early today and he brought the prog to boot - tidy!

Nice cover by Trevallian.

Expo heavy Dredd.  Filling in details with an info dump.  Marshall does it his usual justice.

Return of the Alienist.  Jumping straight in with the mystery and a new antagonist?

Greysuit goes bananas (literally).  Higgins' art as ever is a pleasure.  In fact it is easy to be bowled over by it.  (apologies for that one).

Grey Area is a one off.  Bit light hearted.  Okay but nowt special.

Rounded out with Hunted.  Sorry, not got into this at all.  Traitor General is just too one dimensional.

Overall, an okay week.  Oh, and Lawless is returning to the meg  (yay!)

Off Topic / Am I missing something?

It occurs to me that so much of what is out there is so negative, vitriolic and downright nasty that this site really does seem like some sort of oasis.  I mean I know that we have our differences, that some threads (I"m thinking the recent Dr Who thread or the political thread) can get a bit heated, but that tends to be the exception rather than the rule.  Even there views and ideas are respected.

We have a number of members of this board with serious needs that get all the support they need, that are welcomed with open arms.  There are only a handful of members that have ever been barred and even then it has been after a prolonged exploration of alternatives.  Disagreements are met with respect and an appreciation of different views first of all.  We try to find solutions to problems rather than focusing on the problems.  We have a broad but respectful church here.  It just feels like it is unusual on the internet.

Answers on a postcard ...

News / New Dan Dare Series from Titan
« on: 07 July, 2017, 03:47:57 pm »
Looks like Titan are having another shot with Dare.  Milligan on writing duties.  Weston on variant cover duties.  not familiar with the interior artist but it doesn't look too bad.

Film & TV / Now This Looks Interesting
« on: 02 May, 2017, 07:15:09 pm »
Well, any TV series that has got Tory MP's frothing at the mouth has at least got to be worth a gander.  https://www.theguardian.com/media/2017/may/02/bbc-king-charles-iii-anger-drama

Don't know much about this and certainly not heard about the play.  Certainly it seems a realistic premise although I'm sure the original writing dates back to when the monarchy was slightly less respected a few years back.

Books & Comics / Kim Stanley Robinson's Latest ....
« on: 11 April, 2017, 01:41:08 pm »
New York 2140 -

Quote
The waters rose, submerging New York City.

But the residents adapted and it remained the bustling, vibrant metropolis it had always been. Though changed forever.

Every street became a canal. Every skyscraper an island.

Through the eyes of the varied inhabitants of one building Kim Stanley Robinson shows us how one of our great cities will change with the rising tides.

And how we too will change.

(From Amazon)

Hmmm.  All it needs is art by Colin Wilson.
