Film & TV / Re: Rogue Trooper News…!

In a world where John Q. Public recently had to swallow such fish bones as Harleen Quinzel, Otto Octavius, Edward Nygma and <choke> Blackagar Boltagon, I think we'll be just fine.

The nickname / call-sign route is the obvious one to take, as with the excellent IDW version of Rogue.

Watched the longer version of that last night Alec - really enjoyed it.
Cheers for the heads up.

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 31 January, 2024, 05:52:28 PMHas there been any hint as to how long this story will last?

Dredd horror strip 'Iron Teeth' is set to start in April.

It could of course be about a judicial liaison social worker applying for dental implant subsidy for a young mutie immigrant.

I was ride or die reading everything in my younger days - I mean, we're talkin the full run of R.A.M. Raiders here.
Been ruthless in the last few years though, since about the numerical Prog 2000 - will skip anything that doesn't tickle my fancy without hesitation.
Normally not an issue for an anthology comic of the Prog's underlying quality though.

Quote from: JayzusB.Christ on 31 January, 2024, 05:04:58 PMI still can't work out whether I want Maitland to succeed or fail. Obviously in the real world, success is what I'd be rooting for, but a nicey-nicey fluffy Justice Department is just not the one I grew up with

Jayzus, Jayzus, Jayzus - it's 2024 - you can't just get away with being entertained by fictional dystopian regimes anymore.
Eww.

The intention is laudable.
I was just never on board with the publication stratagem, nor impressed by even a casual skim of the majority of the material.

Quote from: broodblik on 27 January, 2024, 05:34:15 AMReading some articles on Bleeding Cool's website I read an interesting statement over the persona of one of the best Dredd writers: Ken Niemand and Gordon Rennie both have strips in current 2000AD, despite being the same person, which is a good trick if you can manage it

https://bleedingcool.com/comics/2000ad-starts-new-stories-in-rebellions-april-2024-solicits/#:~:text=New%20stories%20start%20this%20month,dark%20in%20%22Iron%20Teeth%22!

I wouldn't give that gutter press site a click, and would take anything from that shit-stirring tosser with a pinch of extra hot chili powder.

That said, the distinguished BPP is of honourable repute.

Quote from: broodblik on 26 January, 2024, 12:05:17 PMSo far I have not seen or even heard a mention of any regen progs this year.
The first one last year was at the end of March. Have we seen solicits beyond that point then?

April was latest I saw and I even saw a March one just sating the following: Plus chills abound in Judge Dredd: Iron Teeth, which starts in the bumper 48pp Prog 2375, which features bonus stories!

Dare we dream it's over.

Time to cash in the crypto and hoover up those Prog 228's in CGC 9.8 condition.
Or at least wipe the mildew from the spine of your 1991 annual before flogging it on Ebay...

Have to admit,exciting news.

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 29 January, 2024, 04:24:12 PMI certainly don't want the Prog to be closed to more Peter Milligan.

Absolutely, 100%.
May be the reason why I am more critical of him than I would be other Script Droids- it's only cause I know he's an erstwhile bona fide genius.

Quote from: Hawkmumbler on 09 January, 2024, 05:03:45 PMI've come to accept Gatiss is just a bit shit at these and gave it a wide birth, spent this Christmas watching the Lawrence Gordon-Clark run instead by way of the new blu-ray sets.

A wise move, and you've reminded me that I still have to pick up that 2nd Blu-ray set.

I really want to support Gatiss for keeping this tradition going, not to mention quality material he has produced like Crooked House and The Mezzotint, but yeah - they don't make 'em like they used to eh?

Quote from: JayzusB.Christ on 18 January, 2024, 09:34:44 AMIt's a pity; Pete Milligan's writing for me was an absolute gamechanger in comics but he just doesn't seem to have that spark any more.

It really is a shame.
I love the guy, but I don't think he even bothered to turn on his phone when phoning this one in.

Can't say the New Year line-up is doing much for me, unfortunately.
I am enjoying the wonderfully disturbing Thistlebone, and Feral & Foe is ok. That's as far as my interest holds, making the Prog quite the swift read.

Henry Flint may be the greatest comic book artist in the world today, but this ain't the first, or even fifth time, in recent years that he's been handed a story that does absolutely nothing for me.

Had this on an Amazon wish list for ages, but only ever saw the Kindle version on sale.

What's the story - low print run or huge success?
