Good grief! Thryllseeker, I'm totally converted!

I never appreciated the casting of Stallone as Dredd. But I agree - slap the costume on him now, force him to keep the helmet on and we're in the ballpark!

Hmm. Our town has a guy who walks around perpetually in a really ridiculous looking top hat, with massive muttonchops that make him look like a monkey.

I don't understand the appeal of such flamboyant individualism. Especially given that the guy must be pushing 60.

I say more power to him. I sincerely hope that I'll stand out from the flat cap brigade when I'm a codger.

I'd be inclined to be more charitable about this if the guy wasn't a complete scumbag.

I'm not really a grumpy old man - I don't mind people dressing like lunatics if they're nice lunatics ;)

However bad anyone thinks the movie is, it has to be worth an extra star for the ABC Warrior alone. I remember being in the cinema with a mate watching the film, and when he appeared, we both swapped a quick glance of surprise.

Surprise and joy, I might add.  ;)

On a similar tack I remember seeing Ang Lee's Hulk and parents were letting their kids  literally run amok as they waited 40 minutes for the big green man to show up.

And Spirits Within is putrid, BTW.

Why do they let 'em do this? WHY?!! What makes me die is that there's no way those same parents would tolerate that behaviour if they were watching a film at home on TV  :o

And yeah, while I personally thoroughly enjoyed Spirits Within, a film for everybody it most certainly is not...

The most frustrating cinema experience I ever had - EVER - was when I decided on a whim to go to a screening of FInal Fantasy - The Spirits Within, which to this day I maintain is a brilliant movie.

I took my seat, nestled there comfortably with my bucket of popcorn, and the film began. The first five minutes was awesome - the sound system conveyed the music and effects really well, the images on the screen dazzled and amazed me... and then all the damned kids started acting up.

For literally 90% of the movie, I had to strain to hear the dialogue over the bawling infants and young kids who had been taken to see the 'funny cartoon'.

I'm generally a pretty placid guy, but as I sat there, struggling to make out what was being said on the screen (yes, it was THAT bad!) I found myself thinking, furiously 'why are these kids even here? This ISN'T a kids' film!

I remember making it to the end of the movie, where the audience was miraculously able to keep quiet for the poignant final scene. Until, that is, about halfway through it, two kids started singing 'Bob The Builder' or somesuch rubbish.

As I got up to leave, I took one look around the people who had sat through the film with me. I've never seen such a concentrated collection of vacant looking people, most of them looking bored or irritated by the kids they'd brought with them. They had the look of a crowd of folks who just didn't want to be there. It made me absolutely furious.

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

I'm halfway through 'The Surrogates' - intended to read it before the Bruce Willis movie came out. Failed miserably. It's kinda cool, in an improbable sci-fi sorta way.

Dreddspeak isn't just a luxury - IT'S A REQUIREMENT!

I quite often quote Dredd VS Death to my mate's wee lad when they come down to visit. If he acts up, being the adorable bundles of energy that under-10s are, I'll issue a mild telling off, and sweeten the deal with 'LIFE! WITH NO REMISSION!' or 'YOU'RE TAKIN' THE LONG RIDE!'

Ain't that just the best? Sometimes, if there are projects going on that I'm asked to update people for, I'll wander into town and sup a beer or two while I fling the files over t'internet. It's a beautiful thing.

As regards the theme of the thread, another thing I don't see the appeal of is public brawling.

Not one hour ago, I set foot outside my front door to go to the off-license. I open my door, and three inches in front of me, two shell-suited girls are smacking the living daylights out of each other.

What is the point?

I'll risk the wrath of all concerned by saying that in a certain light, I actually quite enjoy the movie.

I mean, it's a terrible, terrible representation of Dredd proper. Parts of it are laughable ( I love the assistant in the lab who looks at Armand Assante, then Stallone and gasps with utmost sencerity 'You look a lot alike! - haha-HAAAA!) but with a six pack of beers and a chicken curry, it's a fair enough way to wste a bit of down-time.

And Diane Lane in the Judge's uniform....rrrrr!

I'm actually a member of the oft-reviled 'trades only' club. I just like to have those shiny, luxuriant books over flimsy magazines. My income just wouldn't support a comics habit for all the stuff I follow.

I really like the format of the Rebellion trades a lot. The slightly caustic smell of the print I could live without, but it's great to just have some of the classic strips from my youth preserved in those nice floppy books.

I'll never forget the day my copy of ABC Warriors: The Black Hole arrived direct from Rebellion. That was a happy day indeed.

boys in skinny jeans I find made of wrong. They make normal sized boys/men appear deformed and fat and skinny boys look even skinnier.

Augh! Don't even get me STARTED on this!

Funniest thing that happened to me this year was going to a local bar with a couple of mates, while on the table next to me, one such pretty-boy turned up on a blind date with some young lady (incidentally, she was a black legging case with too-big  hair).

Well, we were trying to enjoy our quiet pint, but the guy was talking so loudly, and punctuating everything he said with 'cos I'm a nice guy, really' that it became really distracting. In fact, the girl couldn't get a word in edgeways.

So we stifled our laughter and tried to enjoy our drinks, but we all wound up earwigging the conversation. Random tidbits kept floating our way, and making us snigger. My mate's missus nearly lost it when the fella started chattering about his views on sex before marriage without the slightest provocation.

The guy and his date eventually got up to leave, and we watched them as they walked outside. The guy stopped to chat with his date some more, but she was having none of it and just kept walking without missing a step.

My mate looked up at me and said 'ahh, the life and times of the pretty people, eh?'

We literally cried with laughter.

I'm late to the party on this (again) but I'll add my voice tot he dissenting comments about the fashions the young (and not-so-young) ladies are following right now.

And might I add, speaking from a simple point of view on what looks good and what doesn't... LADIES. PLEASE. If you MUST wear those dreadful black legging things /  tights, DON'T stick a pair of white shoes on the end. It looks DREADFUL!

I'll add zebra / leapordskin-effect clothes and shoes to the list of fashion errors too. All the class of Barry Humphries at a Women's Lib event.
