The boot holster is a ridiculous idea which would thoroughly alienate an American audience.

It's not practical in live-action.
That's the key, a lot of stuff looks cool in the comic but doesn't translate well to live action.

Possibly. What was said American audience's reaction to guns exploding due to unauthorized use?

Danny Bike cannon's range is limited. A Judge needs to be able to shoot all over the shop while riding pillion.

Even when live-action looks cool but makes bugger-all sense*?

Lawmaster
In the 1995 Judge Dredd motion picture, a correct reproduction of the comic Lawmaster was made, however, there was just a single issue. It was excessively cumbersome, making it impossible to guide.

Along these lines, in the 2012 Dredd motion picture, the movie producers tweaked with the Lawmaster to make it more ergonomic. The Lawmaster in the 2012 film was based on Suzuki GSX 750s with amplified frame

Yes. I've also read Jane Killick's THE MAKING OF JUDGE DREDD.

A major part of the strip's appeal (to me) is its ridiculousness. Practicality no doubt trumps ingenuity but the 2012 movie's downplaying the strip's ridiculousness was (I think) the main reason I didn't warm to it on first viewing.

Sorted.
Headlamp's too small.

And he doesn't have a rear mudguard -- his bum's going to get soaked!  He'll be a man of constant sorrow.

Boot holsters make more sense if you're on a bike though (and holsters attached to the waist make a bit less sense).

That's why Lawmasters have a Law-Rod/Scatter-Gun up-front.

Which was the Squirrel's thinking exactly, IIRC. No reason a Judge's uniform couldn't also incorporate a hip-holster for performing those 59ds.
