ABsolutely loving this game. Its a racer directed by Michael Bay.
You earn triggers by pulling off drifts etc then can use these to set off environmental events ranging from exploding roadside buses to causing a jumbo jet to crash onto the track.

Vid below shows one of the challenge modes where you basically have to score the best time while the pc sets off a load of obstacles.

Have a look

Played the demo, which was quite enjoyable. Shame its released so close to Blur! I played that demo to death!

Sorry, Rich, but one thing I didn't need to see was yet another racer whose sole purpose - admirable as it may be - is to occupy the minds of Red Bull-swigging teens in between knife crimes and burglaries.  Adding the name Michael Bay on top of it just makes it seem like something constructed less as a game and more as a deliberate attempt to baffle me - personally - yet again.

Isn't there something like a million of these games already?

It only really exists to reinforce the empirical fact that Burnout 3 was THE GREATEST THING EVER.
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

Dont really get how you've pegged the audience for this. I mean I'm really enjoying it and Im a boring almost 40 year old with a wife and a mortgage.

Thing is I've never been that into racing games, barring a brief infatuation with Wipeout on the playstation when it first came out, as I find them a bit dull. Never been into cars as anything other than an A to B thing so driving round in circles left me a bit cold. Driving round in circles in little carts while Mario makes helium feuled porn noises even more so.
With this one's crazy over the top explosions it feels like you are driving through a big summer action movie, which I'm a fan of. I enjoyed the spectacle of the driving through the disaster scene in 2012 and this lets you do that and being a game has no need to try and add any more depth to it. There may have been other games like this before where it feels every bit of the scenery has been wired with explosives, but this is the first I've played and like I said, I'm loving it.

Keef Monkey

I've only played the demo, but I'm with bluemeanie on this.

I'm not a big fan of driving games, but I do love action games, so the driving games that play like big explosive car chases strike a chord with me. There's less of them than you'd think too, apart from this and Burnout (and maybe Blur but that's not out yet) everything else on the market seems obsessed with realism and pimping your rides. I'm guessing it's them you're referring to, as I guess they have a massively ned/chav-esque following. There's some brilliantly sweaty-palmed-don't-dare-blink gaming to be found in ludicrously fast cars careering through massive explosions while narrowly escaping doom, and if finding that exhilirating makes me a Red Bull quaffing pleb then so be it. I drink Monster anyway, it's got way more kick.

Professor Bear

I merely cite Red Bull as a synonym for energy-drinks in general - if anything my hometown is littered with KX tins (an own-brand energy drink sold by Tesco which I've never seen cost more than 34 pence and is often cheaper than water).  I'm a Power Horse man myself - I don't like to sit sipping these drinks as if I like the taste of chemicals (I'm not Ralph Dibny), I just want the caffeine pick up and man but that Power Horse shit is insane.

I exaggerated for humourous effect.

I have to say having played both games quite a bit that Blur is definately superior.

Cool. A friend of mine works at Bizarre too. Not sure if he worked on blur, but he did work on the Gotham racing series. Well done regarding Blur. Great game.  ;)

Rise, thread - RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!

Played this after I found it on the cheap, and my main issue (if you can call it that) would be that it's patently an arcade game rather than a racer, though I tried playing Motorstorm and the last couple of Need For Speed* games after Split/Second and I have to say the latter has now spoiled me on racing games forever by dint of being incredibly user-friendly, if a bit too easy.  I'm also not too sure about the 'rubber band' gameplay (you're never too far ahead or behind other racers) as I want to lap a fucker when I'm doing well, not have the console give him a speed boost.

The timed lap challenges suck ass, though - impressive visuals or not - and the online racing experience is a very unbalanced affair.

*A poorly-named series if ever there was one, especially given the 30-40 minutes it takes just to get NFS: Shift started.

Pete Wells

Aye, picked this up for a tenner and it's brilliant!

I got split second on release and still play it. I do find it rare to get a game online now though. I was a little disappointed in the DLC content. IMO it was a tad over priced. I hope they produce a sequel.

In a shameless plug I'd recommend Motorstorm Apocalypse if you are after this kind of experience.
