Megazine / Scripts and WIPs for the floppy?
21 February, 2018, 09:36:31 PM
I was thinking how recent strips are turning up in the floppy, would it be an idea to flesh them out with scripts, cover WIPs from Pete's covers blog etc?

Might be a bit different to just reprinting something recent verbatim.

General / Why so few 2000 AD fan films?
08 September, 2017, 04:23:14 PM
I've been pondering the lack of 2000 AD related fan films recently.

Considering the supposed impact of the comic, it doesn't seem to have jumped into other forms that much.

Having done 2 of the things, I know it's a bit of a slog and potentially expensive compared to fanzines/art but surprised that relatively few have gone the same route in any form, either before or since we did ours.

After 2012 there were a few 'yeah we'll make a Dredd short', but nothing really materialised aside from that Cursed Edge series.

Maybe they have more sense, or anyone serious about it considers that sort of thing slumming it.

I get that some strips would be a challenge, but there's been very little overall...

Thoughts?

Noticed this yesterday after director Peter Briggs commented on a tweet about Fleetway Film and TV.

Has a bit of a Fiends of the Eastern front feel, and pretty sure that's Chris Weston on storyboards.

Video is a few years old, so no idea if it will ever see fruition, but looks like it could be quite fun.

General / Glossy or matte?
28 August, 2017, 12:05:48 PM
Just curious.

What drives the choice on how to reproduce reprints?

Most stock these days is glossy, and I really have a preference for matte stock, like the old Titan books - it seems like it would especially suit reprints of strips that were originally printed on the old bog-paper.

Is it a case that colour suits the glossy stock better, or is it just a matter of cost?

I noticed that the Zenith Apex edition was a heavy matte stock, or that the non-Hachette Horned God hardback has matte end papers, but the rest of the content is on glossy stock.

Cheers

Off Topic / Nerd block no more
20 August, 2017, 07:31:42 PM
I've never had any interest in these subscription box things, and it's a mystery why they're so popular.

Anyway, one of them has gone under owing a fair amount. Some big names there (inc a few grand to Rebellion for a Dredd novel)

I wonder if it's mismanagement or the market has become saturated?

My copy arrived today, watched the Steve MacManus and the Dave Gibbons extras so far, well worth picking up even if it just had those.

Help! / The origin of muties
16 July, 2017, 11:56:03 PM
I got around to watching Logan tonight and noticed mutie being used as a term, and longing for a Stronty Dog feature - I was wondering who was the first writer to use it?

Was it used in older X-men comics, or any sci-fi before it cropped up in 2000AD?

Cheers

Film & TV / Oats Studios Shorts
07 July, 2017, 03:40:42 PM
Neill Blomkamp has set up a studio producing shorts.

Their latest one has a bit of an Alan Moore/FS vibe.

The other ones (Rakka/Firebase) are quite interesting but fairly gruesome.

General / Not sure if it's me or the prog...
04 July, 2017, 07:04:52 PM
Hmmm,

wasn't sure if I was going to post this, but here we go.

I'm not really enjoying the prog at the moment, nor for a while if I'm honest.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what it is, but the hit to miss rate for me isn't great.

Dredd is usually solid, Deadworld I've enjoyed, but other strips just don't seem to work for me, Scarlet Traces I loved as the collected editions previously, but week to week, not so much.

That, combined with quite a few strips left hanging and I'm wondering if it's time to call it a day.

Maybe it's a combination of factors, but it's just not doing it for me, and feels like it's read more out of habit, in the same way I read it in the 90s.

Subscription ends in October - I've turned off auto-renewal.
