Missing "The Red Seas"? Longing for 17th Century piratey, political drama?

"The Damning of Henry Morgan" is an audiodrama about Alexandre Exquemelin, a French surgeon tried for his beliefs and sold into slavery before becoming the confidant of the privateer Henry Morgan and how the manipulation his journal became one of the outstading works on piracy.

The free podcast can be found here http://www.concept-players.com/Henry%20Morgan%20Podcast.html

Worth a listen if you have a spare 80 minutes or so.

*Pimp alert* I'm in it playing two minor characters, one of whom dies of wooden acting violently about halfway through.

Like a frightening number of boarders lately, I have just turned 40. What a day it has been.

Woke up feeling like my back had been ripped in half after aggravating an old injury doing community work yesterday.

Made it into work to discover the department is under investigation due to something we've either done or haven't done and my manager is still on a suspicious 'sick leave'.

Got a bollocking from a manager from another team, apparently for finishing my work.

Half my presents haven't arrived as my sister didn't want Classic Dr Who DVDs in her Amazon browsing history so gave me the money to get them myself.

And I can't drink because I'm now on painkillers.

Sod this 40s lark. I'm going back to being 39.

Prog / Prog 1717 - Dognapped!
15 January, 2011, 10:16:09 AM
Early Prog for me today.

Cover: Jon Davis-Hunt draws Gene and the "Robert" squaring off. Potential cover of the year already!

Teaser: Anderson - The Trip.

Dredd: Wow! Can't believe all that took place in six pages. Very tight writing from Mr Carroll and a suitably busy looking Meg from Mr Fraser.

Shakara: Eva's new playmates get into a lot of trouble. Loved the cheeky nod to Dante on the second page.

Ampney Crucis: Not doing it for me at the moment. A big reveal at the end if you're into it though.

Necrophim: A pissed off Lucifer and a betrayal. This could be the episode that turns it all around.

Kingdom: They're Masters, Jim. But not as we know them.

Overall: Great prog. A terrific Dredd one-shot and most of the other thrills hit their stride.

Classifieds / Focus Magazines - Free to collect
30 September, 2010, 07:24:39 PM
I'm having a bit of a clearout this week.

I've got an almost complete run of Focus magazine from 1993 to 2009, around 200 issues, that need a new home.

Seeing as there's no market on ebay for them, they are free to anyone that can collect from Cardiff.

If there's no takers for the lot, I'm prepared to split them into small bundles for cost of postage only. Please post/PM if there are specific issues you are looking for.

Prog / Prog 1697 - Card Sharks!
07 August, 2010, 08:51:52 AM
Rare eight O'clock prog for me this morning. If you're looking for action then Prog 1697 is definitely what you want.

Three strips with all out fighting, Dredd concludes, and Middenface and Precious travel to Zen.

Highlights of the prog: Everything Polly Alloy says, Middenface's translator trouble, the art on the first page of Savage, the cheap (but funny) gag in Droid Life, and you can also play "Where's Wally".

Film & TV / K9 Trailer
25 April, 2009, 04:57:29 PM
I tried to search to see if it had been posted before, however K9 has less than three letter so I couldn't, so sorry if this is old news.
There's a trailer for the new K9 series. This is the one made by the joint-copyrightholder and is not meant to be a Dr Who spin-off.

Looks like they're aiming for the young kids with this. I note that it's being billed as a comedy as well.

As well as the new look, K9 seems to be a bit more mobile as well.

Anybody else catch the Moon pass Venus this evening?

I had to pick up a prescription earlier, and when I looked up I could see a bright object just above the moon. I had Radio 5 on in the car and they were talking about it (well, talking about all the texts and emails they were getting of the "ZOMG what's that on the Moon" variety) and they mentioned what was going on.

I managed to take a picture of it when I got home. Curse my lack of a decent zoom.

Only Photoshopping was to add the title and to desaturate the image as a streetlight tainted the image orange. (Yes, we have streetlights on my estate. Some of them actually work!)

Off Topic / Overheard conversation
01 May, 2008, 01:59:09 PM
This morning, I went down to the doctor's surgery to get a repeat prescription for my mother.

There were several people hanging around outside when I got there including a young girl about 15, all tracksuit, piercings and scraped back hair and quite heavily pregnant.

As I walked into the surgery, she lit up a cigarette. This must have caused a reaction while I was in there as when I left I heard a woman in her seventies give her this advice.

"Don't listen to what other people say. I smoked 20, 30 even 40 a day when I was carrying my youngest, and he's only in prison now because they caught him."

I can't decide if that was a reflection of the sorry state of where I live or if it was a brilliant piece of reverse psychology.

Anybody else overheard something that's made them despair of society lately?

Megazine / MEG 270: Weapons of War
31 March, 2008, 04:51:23 PM
Dredd: Well we've found out why Si wanted to know how many people live in MC1. Plagues, missing people and a possible rapist who preys on homeless people all wrapped in in some decent Paul Marshall art. And a BIG syringe of Thiopental Sodium. Shame we didn't see any gribligs.

Armitage finishes this month. Still need a re-read to work out what the hell happened.

Bob the Bum: Bit with the street of Guru's was fun, otherwise a bit of a flat episode.

Tempest: Give Al Ewing his credit, he's certainly done his homework on Tempest's background. Still loving the art on this more than the story though.

Film & TV / Torchwood Babiez

Spotted this link on a Star Wars fansite today.

Characters from Torchwood and Dr Who done in a Muppet Babies style comic.

The art looks pretty good to me.
