This seems almost too easy. Just type the letters "pwn" in front of any youtube address (i.e. www.youtube.com/whatever becomes www.pwnyoutube.com/whatever) and it will take you to a site where you can download the video in flv or mp4 format. Pretty handy.

Film & TV / Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Trailer

One thing I do love about those Americans and their superbowl is all the bite-size TV trailers that come out this weekend. And personally I think this looks awesome. More (and bigger) robots kicking ass. Works for me...

Film & TV / Cheap DVD sites.....no, no, wait!
30 January, 2009, 02:43:03 PM
I'm looking for an opinion on various dvd sites such as //http://www.dvdorderonline.com or others along the same lines. They advertise cheap dvd box sets at pretty good prices, but the sets are usually region free, which strikes me as a little odd, and the packaging in the photos doesn't look like anything I've seen for the same dvds on other sites. So I'm wondering does anyone have any experience with these sites? Are they legit, or cheap knockoffs?

Can't say I'm wild about this choice. Roland Emmerich does a certain type of film well, and I enjoy it for what it is; big dumb sci-fi where shit blows up. It's popcorn fun, not much more. But I'm currently reading the third Foundation book, and while I'm not even sure that they can be filmed (the main characters and plotlines change every few chapters, so it may be better suited to a miniseries) I don't think Emmmerich's, shall we say style, really fits these books. Alex Proyas was mentioned a while back, I would have liked to see what he did with it.

Film & TV / Thundercats trailer

Okay, not quite. But as fanmade trailers go, this is a pretty impressive piece of work....

Film & TV / New Wolverine Trailer

Looks pretty cool. I like the shots of Logan on D-Day. I'm still a bit undecided about whether or not Gambit looks silly, but he does seem to be kicking ass in the trailer, so maybe he'll pull it off.

Also, I was surprised by a couple of appearances in the trailer by characters who I didn't realise were in this (that is if they are who I think they are), i.e.
there's a shot of a young girl who appears to be Storm aged maybe 10, someone else who may be Emma Frost, and what looks like Jason Stryker from X-Men 2 (the blue and green eyes))
Film & TV / Galactica webisodes

A new series of mini online episodes is running between now and the start of the final season in January. The first episode is up, but since the sci-fi website won't let you watch it outside America (welcome to the Internet), it's on youtube:

It seems to be focusing on Gaeta. Trying to tell us something I wonder?

Film & TV / The Day The Earth Stood Still
12 December, 2008, 10:05:03 AM
Might as well get this out of the way; I have never seen the original. I know, it's on the list, just never got around to it.

Leaving that aside, I quite liked this film. It's the kind of role that suits Reeves (as little emotion as possible), and he does it well. There are plenty of good ideas in it as well, such as the film actually explaining why Klaatu looks human, the actual purpose of the spheres, and both Klaatu's and Gort's various abilities.

There are some downers though, the main one being the annoying kid. He spends most of the film whining either to or about his stepmom (Jennifer Connolly), until you'd think someone would just slap him and tell him there are bigger things happening right now. And John Cleese shows up briefly for no apparent reason.

All round though, I enjoyed it.

Off Topic / Is the world going insane? The porn edition.
08 December, 2008, 11:30:06 AM
So, I was reading the news this morning about the Scorpions album cover being banned from Wikipedia after being labelled "child porn", despite being on the market for 30-odd years, and you can still walk into a record shop and buy it.

Then I saw a story about a kid in America who has been labelled a sex offender. He was 10 years old at the time, he rubbed up against an 8 year old girl, they were both in their underwear, and he has mental problems. It is highly doubtful he even knew what he was doing.

Then, I read a story about a guy in Australia who was charged with possession of child porn. The material he was in possession of?  Lewd pictures of Bart, Lisa and Maggie Simpson....

So, tell me; Are people going way overboard to crack down on sex offenders, or am I thinking way too liberally in this matter?

This looks damn cool. It's basically a free mod which recreates Half-Life with the Half-Life 2 engine; better graphics, physics, all the good stuff. They've been working on it for ages, and there's still no definite release date, but they say it's getting closer.  You can check out some of the models and level maps here:

A site specially designed for bored office workers, this has just the audio of hundreds of films online, so you can put it on in the background and keep the pictures in your head. Damn fine thinking if you ask me.....

Well this just went up a few notches; last I heard, the dude who directed Ghost Rider was supposed to be doing it. This constitutes a vast improvement.

Of course, I'm only up to book 3 in the series, so I've gotta get reading.
