Didn't something similar happen to the Ezquerra family? How did they deal with it? Can lessons be learned?

And by Brian Blessed (that very emperor, Augustus) - his death scene is magnificent.

I think Bernard Hill played an officer in the Praetorian Guard, the one who finds Claudius hiding behind the curtain if memory serves. Centurion Yosser - "Gizzan emperor, go on, gizz 'im."

I'm on to Spartacus (again) now. Next time I'm in a Roman mood I'm gonna do Spartacus first, then Rome, then I, Claudius because they all happen within a few decades of each other. Maybe I'll even top off that future binge with Gladiator, because why not?

I've just finished watching I, Claudius again (the perfect compliment to Rome) and it's left me with the same fundamental question it leaves me with every time I watch it...

...was Slaine inspired by Peter Bowles?

Yes, and be sure to keep us up to date on what your optician says.

The most recent one I saw was in the t.v. series, Rome, I forget the episode. Some stuffy Roman numpty, in the act of being run through with a sword says, in a mildly put-out tone, "Sir - I really must protest..." and then dies. Made me groan and laugh at the same time (graugh?). It's not really expositional, though (except in demonstrating the upper-class Roman faith in law and decorum, perhaps), so probably doesn't count here.

Luckily, there's always the old standby, "No! No! Not the teeth!" Or whatever it was.

Well, maybe, but if it's just a routine locking of inactive threads how are we to explain this?

Has the site been hacked by liberal extremists? Is Rebellion trying to distance itself from dissenting voices? Did Burt spill oil into Tharg's website-o-tron? Thrill-suckers? Gremlins? A random glitch?

I'm not saying there's any underhandedness going on here, because I don't know what's going on, but I am intrigued as to why this suddenly happened for no apparent reason.

Despite not being posted in since May '23, the Thought Police: Are we allowed to query 'woke'? thread has just been locked.

I'm not on TwiXter myself but sometimes my lines of inquiry run through it, or into it.

Yes, TwiXter is still useful. I didn't mean to condemn the whole thing because of one part of it. Sorry if I gave that impression.

I generally break my longer posts up into chunks under 3,500 words, if memory serves. I think that's always been about the limit, but I haven't posted anything super long for ages.
