Help! / Microssoft Works and Windows 10
05 June, 2016, 02:18:31 PM
Some tech help/advice is needed.  My father has been bugging me to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10, the free window is running out.  I'm not too fussed about 10 (it seems like nothing special to me) but I'm wondering if either:-

A - Windows Works works in 10, or if

B - There's an alternative programme available (preferably free) which opens .doc etc. files

The reason for asking is that I've got about thirty various indexes and other files created in Works which I'll need to use in 10.

General / Another title goes US-style - Aquila
08 January, 2015, 08:18:30 PM
I was mooching around Disposable Heroes seeing what was due out in the next few months and I came across this.  First issue (of 5) out on the 25th of march.  Tharg's relentless assault on the Americas continues unabated.

100 Best Comic Characters

Only up to 21 at the moment.  Dredd is at 24 ahead of the likes of Asterix, Deadpool, Storm, the Hulk, and even... um... Jughead from Archie.  Pleasantly surprised to see quite a few from Image and Vertigo on the list, even though you just know that the top five is likely to consist of some permutation of Batman, Captain America, Spiderman, Superman, and Wolverine.

General / Alan Moore's Shorts
28 October, 2013, 10:48:13 PM
Now that I've implanted that particular mental image in your heads ( :P) I should point out I'm talking about the various short stories that he's wrote for 2000AD - Future Shocks, Time Twisters and the like.  Basically I was wondering what's everyone's favourite short story by the Bearded One (or rather their second favourite since Chrono Cops is going to be everyone's favourite).

For me it's "Ring Road" (Prog 320).  A truly creepy story about a girl who escapes from a detention centre, kills the first old biddie who stops for her and starts driving, and driving, and driving until eventually she sees a poor, hungry looking young girl hitchhiking outside of a detention centre.

Books & Comics / Death Sentence sells out
28 October, 2013, 10:39:25 PM
In the good, successful way, at least according to Bleeding Cool - http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/10/28/the-star-wars-sells-out-death-note-gets-a-midtown-second-print-and-god-is-dead-gets-enhanced/ So well done to Mr Nero and all the others involved in this fantastic comic.

Books & Comics / Mr. Spurrier's Disenchanted
06 August, 2013, 06:01:29 PM
Stumbled across this bit of news whilst mooching around Tumblr - http://sispurrier.tumblr.com/post/55090437959/disenchanted-where-magic-went-to-die.  Looks like Si Spurrier is doing another weekly webcomic in a similar vein to Crossed: Wish you Were Here, this time with fairies.  Drunken, angry, possibly homicidal fairies.

Help! / Ethernet cable question
18 June, 2013, 12:18:50 AM
Just need a bit of advice.  I have a Virgin Media Super Hub and 30Mb internet via cable.  Currently my computer and Dad's humax TV recorder are connected to the hub via Ethernet cables whilst the other two computers in the house use Wi-Fi dongles.

My question is - would connecting the two other computers to the Hub via Ethernet cables slow my connection down any?  The hub has four ports in total.

Books & Comics / Love & Rockets - is it worth it.
18 August, 2012, 09:54:13 PM
I've been aware (to a small degree) of the Love and Rockets series for many years now - Mr Goggans has mentioned it on his book blog a few times and I've seen them in Forbidden Planet.  According to Wikipedia the series is been reprinted in neat little omnibus editions, so the question is - Is it worth me getting it?

Is the writing as good as they say, are the storylines gripping, funny, moving, whatever?

I'm open minded about most (none super-hero) comics and GN series although I am biased towards sci-fi and fantasy stuff.

Welcome to the board / Hello from the new guy
28 March, 2011, 08:50:34 PM
Just thought I'd say hello, you all seem like a nice bunch.

What's to say about me.  Let's see, I started reading 2000AD back in '77, aged 6!!! (Prog 9 was my first I think, but I got all the back issues from a mate within a month), stopped reading during the late '80s after the chaos of moving house five times in two years (amongst other reasons) before picking back up with Prog 968 (two progs before The Pit started, good timing on my part I reckon).  Started reading the Megazine during Doomsday and haven't looked back.

I'm a big reader of manga (about 500 volumes, various titles) as well as assorted other sci-fi and fantasy books, and I reckon Studio Ghibli make the best anime in the world.

What else, I'm creeping towards 40 years old, I've worked in retail for the last 12 years (RIP Woolies, I miss you), and I've had my photo taken with Steve (Interesting) Davis when I was about twelve.

Oh and sorry about the puddle, I got a bit excited when I saw Cab. Inc. is coming back.
