I read "Origins" as the Dredd equivalent of "All the Presidents Men".

+++but even so... it's not an all out nuclear war, is it?

What about 2070?

We don't know how it happened yet? Isn't that exciting?

The threat in this one is the credibility of the foundations of the justice dept. It's not all about bullets & bombs and the story is the better for it.

I think Wagner has done some brave stuff with the set-up & premise of this story.

People are gonna' say a lot of things about Origins before it's over but saying it's too this or too that while it's running doesn't really make any sense. To me it seems to be all things to all men and we're half way through now.

This story could have lasted a whole year or longer if it needed to but concentrating more on Fargo and the incidental stuff surrounding him & Dredd makes more sense than a heavily detailed historical epic that could really bore and basically separate too much from the actual story.

The revelations are supposed to continue right up to the final episode.

I'm glad it's not too epic, I prefer it being a bit more intimate considering the subject matter. Fargo & Dredd basically.

Wouldn't it be more of a handicap to be a clone coming out of the tanks a relative 5 year old and then having to learning how to walk and do stuff?

A bit behind on development I'd say.

+Yeah but it looks like the doctor is holding another baby in the early Fargo baby scene.

Although we haven't heard anything about Fargo's sister from the Cal files yet?

+Dredd - Speculation that might be spoiler...There is no Ephraim. Or rather there is an Ephraim but it's Eustace. Brain damaged, character changed, not the man he was but still...they're the same man. Or at least, that's what I think...

Yeah but it looks like the doctor is holding another baby in the early Fargo baby scene.

+Although, I seem to recall theres a council meeting shown in Oz where Judd, Fargo and 1000's of Judges are present...

That's right, there are a lot of judges present at that meeting so it must have been covered up again when he left or went missing.

but one of them knows of a rumour of him being alive around the atomic war. Maybe it was never truly made official because Fargo "fucked up" again.

The Oz flashback was set after the atomic war, Fargo must have been revived, fixed up/cured by that time of his afflictions and resumed the role of chief judge or somesuch.

On a side note, that balloon in the bottom panel of page 4 of this weeks Dredd shows Booth as a Republican, no surprise?

If the end product is shoddy they are better off leaving the sfx off. Do we really need them when we can see what's happening in the panel in most cases? I was never a fan of most sfx anyway so I am biased. Plenty of comics don't use them.

I can understand the pressure of a weekly comic but they should just drop them or let the artists get 'round the problem themselves, it's doing them no favours. Better than cheap & nasty, sorry 'tooth.

+++IMO, SFX are a rather overlooked element of the comic page & it's a shame more care isn't given to them.

This is too true. That yellowed font they use looks like a superimposed afterthought on many strips especially on top of Carlos' art. It looks dreadful, the strips would be better of without them altogether I think.

Is there no quality control on this matter?

+++I have to say the labeling on the clone tubes was shocking. It looked like it had been typed on top of the art and stood out like a sore thumb.

I agree, it would have looked better done by hand. This is an example of some of the things which cheapen the look of 'tooth stories. I would wish for these mistakes to be corrected along with all the other typos for the collected volumes but will anyone listen?

I mean this is Origins after all. Read worldwide.
