Title: Pass it on
Post by: amberkraken on 08 September, 2009, 08:46:57 AM
I was looking at some people work on here and thought; "I wonder what'so-n-so's art would look like coloured by 'thingy'". I wont put who, as art is very personal, and I don't want them to think that I am dissing their colouring skills or another members drawing skills, so rather than tell them to mess with others artwork I thought I'd start a new thread where someone uploads a sketch, another member inks it, then another colours it. You can still ink and colour yourself, and we'll get to see how many and how different the finished pictures are.

Interesting idea - the impact of inking came up in the thread were we touched on the different inkers who worked with Jack Kirby (and things got a little heated ;) ). I also was interested to see how different people colour art and that ball was rolling in this thread (http://2000adonline.com/forum/index.php/topic,25749.0.html) (thanks to that nice Mr Holden), although there weren't many takers. Folding these together into one challenge could be very interesting if people are up for it.

I officially endorse this idea.

I've never inked someone elses work before. Not too happy with it, but if you wanna colour this, do.

Cool- that's the ideal thing to distract me from the writing I should be doing this weekend!

Though this is unrelated to the lovely lineart work above I found this from David Lloyds website. David famously illustrated 'V for Vendetta'and I'm sure someone on the forums might find this of use.

Seeing as the ball is rolling on the first one- here's one I did for a recent art comp which I didn't get the chance to finish and set up as an alternative front cover.

Here is the original cover:

Someone else might as well have a go as it's just lying around my hard drive doing nothing...
If someone wants to do it and would prefer a TIF, pm me with your email address and I'll attach it to an email and send it.

Couldn't resist inking your fine Slaine 'n' Ukko pencils, KevLev. First time I have tried embellishing (I love that word) someone else's art.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Glad to read on your blog Kev that you had some good feedback from Pat Mills.

Just read that on your blog too, Kev - good work!!  :)

Excellent work Supersurfer. You've dabbled in this drawing malarkey before, haven't you?

Thanks Uncle Fester.

Dabbled at best. Similar story to one or two of the other fellow boarders here. Always as a kid wanted to draw comics. Studied art/design so neglected comic art – it's not serious art you see (we've all heard that one before). Worked for years as a graphic designer but can't say I'm nuts about it (comes with so much crap). Did the odd bit of illustration work over the years but nothing at all like comic art. Got fed up of a long term job which I left last year. So all I draw is what I show on this forum but hope to change that soon.

Er, sorry, this isn't meant to be an autobiography. Get colouring someone will you.

Very good idea! I'll probably post something here!

My strength is undoubtly drawing and inking my own stuff, but I'll be studying comic coloring in the next couple of months, so maybe I'll find some works I can practice my coloring skills on.

You can also find some rather tasty samples to colour here:

Probably as appropriate here as on the Doodle thread, so I'll repost it:

Quote from: KerrinThat really is a great design and pencils from Fester. I wonder if anyone will take up the challenge of colouring it in the "Pass it on" thread?

There's a much higher-res version available if anyone does want to have a bash at it ...

Cheers!

I've calmed down about it now but wow... just wow. So could you send me the high res, please?

...I really should've finished it, shouldn't I?

Stunned.

Do you want the Manga Studio doc, so you can faff about with the layers?

I can export it as a .psd with layers intact. I'll give it a go and see what the file size comes out like -- obviously, if it's 48Mb, I won't attach it to an e-mail and zap it off to clog up your inbox!

Cheers

You can download a 300dpi layered PSD by clicking here (http://files.me.com/jim.campbell/nhnabf).

If anyone wants to have a bash at colouring it, in keeping with the spirit of the thread, then I (and Fester, hopefully!) will be very happy to see the results.

Cheers!

I should have added that the file linked above is a very modest ~1.5Mb.

It's just jaw-droppingly good. Great composition to start with and then really good inking and well place blacks give this hammer-blow impact.
I'd seriously like to see more collaboration from Fester and Jim.

Well Mr.Campbell, you've done it again. Nice one. Kevlev's original drawing is a doozy, great poses.

Brilliant inking job!! You've really drawn out the grim set of Slaine's jaw and the sleazy glint in Ukko's eye.

I love the way you've even inked Kev's signature and added your own ;)

Well, it's not really much of a challenge inking two drawings as strong as the last two ... like I said on the General Art thread, a good composition will look great through a considerable amount of bad drawing and finishing ...

Cheers!
