You can tell the type of people that post scores on IMDB from that list! I think I've seen all the ones I'd want to on there - probably about half.

There's some real pretentious shite on that list - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless fucking Mind and Requiem For a Dream are prime examples (even the titles are annoying and overlong!)

You're right about the lack of Disney films - very odd.

Buttonman

I'm at 100.

For a while I was 250/250 when I set myself the challenge to see the lot. Good fun finding them all - some like 'Sunrise : A Tale of Two Humans' are out of copyright so you can get them on Googlevideo. Some I bought and later resold on eBay others may have been 'auditioned' from reputable websites.

Great way to see a lot of films you wouldn't normally seek out - 'Wages of Fear' about guys driving dynamite trucks and 'Witness for the Prosecution' which has a great couple of twists are two for a start. On the downside there is a lot of Kurosawa which I found a bit dull apart from 'High and Low' which was a contemporary thriller based on an Ed McBain story. A previous quest of mine was to read all 55 McBain 87th Precinct novels which was a great sucess despite the trouble to the postman's back!

Of the list as it stands just now I'm missing :

129. The Artist (2011)
137. Black Swan (2010)
151. Warrior (2011)
159. The Secret in Their Eyes (2009)
174. How to Train Your Dragon (2010)
190. Mary and Max (2009)
194. Harakiri (1962)
203. The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)
208. Fanny and Alexander (1982)
211. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
222. A Beautiful Mind (2001)
225. Ip Man (2008)
228. Tokyo Story (1953)
237. Beauty and the Beast (1991)
241. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
247. Castle in the Sky (1986)
248. Shutter Island (2010)
250. Andrei Rublev (1966)

That's 18 to go but the list changes everytime you refresh it - I distinctly remember waiting a day to copy my list so that the 3 hour 'Fanny and Alexander' had dropped off.

Of my 'to do' list most are in the last couple of years - things find their natural place over time and I doubt 'Shutter Island' will be there next week (not that I've seen it). It is quite elitist with a lot of films there, it would seem, so that the voters look intellectual - tell me 'Wild Strawberries' is a better film than 'Rushmore'.

Good fun and after this I 'graduated' to only watching films that started with a 'W' and then films that were 'The Definite Article'. Sadly I'm backworking again so no time for such fripperies any more.

Emperor

From a quick skim I think I've seen all but Up and that'll be on TV at Xmas I'm sure. I had a bit of a moment when I didn't recognise some of them by their original names.

I suppose the follow-up question is: How many do you own on DVD? I don't have that many as they get shown on TV quite a bit (mainly fancy releases of films I love), but I do have the Criterion release of Seven Samuari (a thing of beauty), Optimum's special edition of Rashomon, Sin City with the free comic, Eternal Sunshine, The Prestige, Pan's Labyrinth (possibly twice as I was given the Del Toro boxset although I've got most of them singly on DVD) as well as the LoTR, Matrix and Alien boxsets. There might be one or two others on the free DVDs given away in papers, like Cinema Paradiso (which has to have come from the Guardian rather than the Mirror ;) ).
if I went 'round saying I was an Emperor just because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

From the top 100 I'm within 10 feet of DVDs for 13 of them. If recordings of any sort are counted I'd probably say about half. Do try not to watch the same thing twice yet the last thing I wastched as the 'Up to 11' Edition of 'This is Spinal Tap' - 3 discs for a fiver well recommended!

klute

I have most of those on dvd,but i'm not really one for lists.Mine changes all the time it's ever evolving.

Though i'm saddened that both Dazed and Confused and Thank God it's Friday aren't in the list....infact i think there's still alot missing hence the not liking lists's
loveforstitch - Does he fall in love? I like a little romance in all my movies.

Rekaert - Yes, he demonstrates it with bullets, punches and sentencing.

He's Mega City 1's own Don Juan.

Judo

wow buttonman 250/250 that's some severe film buffitude going on there... You free for a pub quiz lolol?!

129) The artist - its really just a shitter version of sunset boulevard but good enough.
137) Black swan - its really just a shitter version of swan lake but good enough.
151) Warrior -its really just a shitter version of rocky but good enough.

Hmm I'm sensing a pattern... Beauty and the beast though - one of the best disney films - though your possibly not the target market.

I agree on the pretension front and some of these films just *arent* the best, but merely non offensive eg the prestige. Good film but I have it on dvd and still aren't in a rush to rewatch it. Eternal sunshine same, I love michel gondry and it was a good film, but not top 100 good.

Emperor Up is good though I found it a little too long and the 3D made my head hurt. Dvd wise... all the best horrors and all the best martial arts. No jackie chans armour of the gods??? Love that film. Then I have a few of the darker 'classics' but between myself and my sunnier flatmate we have about 60 or so of these x

dweezil2

69 (dude) out of 100 here.

But really, some of those just should't be on there! Forrest fucking Gump? Purleeaasse!

Also has a whole load of similarities with a 1997 Japanese animated film called Perfect Blue. Darren Aronofsky acknowledges the similarities are there, but claims the film wasn't an influence, which is a bit weird seeing as how he already owns the film rights to Perfect Blue, having bought them so he could 'borrow' one of the scenes for film number 64 on the list.

Roger Godpleton

Black Swan is better than Perfect Blue purely on the basis that it isn't fucking anime.
He's only trying to be what following how his dreams make you wanna be, man!

Judo

mik oh yes perfect blue! I haven't seen that in years but now that you mention it yeah a bit. But perfect blue has a better, darker plot. Swan lakes perfect as it is and if I'd been asked how it could be improved pills, lesbians and wanking in front of mothers would *definitely* not have been my answer. God portman your glory days of leon are well and truly behind you x

Oh very good I'll V+ that for later dissection - cheers. Have the non-list 'King of Marvin Gardens' and 'W' contender 'We own he night' to catch up on first.

It doesn't have Pirahna 3D so is therefore not worth completing
