Title: The Progmuda Triangle
Post by: Tjm86 on 21 September, 2019, 07:04:58 PM
Hmmm.  Saturday evening and no sign of this week's "jumping on" prog, 2150.  Is it just us with a posties holiday or, in the absence of a review thread, is this more widespread?  Been a while since this problem hit.

the squaxx he stands forlorn, the thrills he seeks unborn

No show on Saturday for the 4th week running. It is more surprising when it does turns up on a Saturday rather than on Monday or Tuesday which now days seen the norm

It's been over a year since my subscriber prog arrived on a Saturday.

Welcome to Wednesday, punks.

Normally do get it on Saturday, but I'm progless too!

Maybe the levels of thrill-power found in Guatemala were just too high and the prog is being made safe before despatch...

Aye, I'd be complaining about that.  Should be bang on the moment the Greenwich atomic clock hits midnight.

As an aside, glad (okay maybe that is too strong a word) that it is not just these parts of the Taff Wasteland that are suffering from neglect.  Bring back Denise.

I get the digi-prog with the app on my tablet.  The thing is, I have no idea when it arrives or how to make it arrive. I open the app on the right day and there's nothing there, and sometimes, by jumping around the site and logging out and back in a few times  it might appear.

Is it me or does this happen to everyone with the app?

I also have my sub digitally. Just be patient it takes awhile to reflect the availability of new publications.  Open the app and wait until you see in the main page that the 2000ad section displays with a  new icon.  It takes awhile to sync between the app and the server.

The digital prog is available same time as the street date and that is Wednesdays. If you stay in the UK I think it is already available just after midnight, early Wednesday morning.  I am GMT+2 so I download it around 4 in the morning.

Progless here as well. Entertainingly ironically, my two Hachette books arrived on time (for a given value of 'on time' – in the sense they rocked up four weeks after the last lot, but still five weeks later than the original schedule).

I got the impression that the Prog shipped straight from the printers? Might be wrong there but that's the way I think it works, which would mean warehouse moves weren't the reason... but then it would also explain it?

Prog and Meg arrived on Wednesday last week, and this week's prog still hasn't arrived. That's the third week in a row where the usual Saturday prog hasn't arrived, and hasn't arrived until Tuesday at the earliest, and the number of Monday progs has been increasing recently too...

Postie come and gone and still no prog this week, which means it will be Thursday at the earliest that my sub prog arrives. That's a new record, and coming off the back of the Wednesday prog last week and the uptick in Monday/Tuesday progs it's getting a bit frustrating. No other regular mail is delayed so I can only assume there's a blip somewhere in the pipeline for the prog. Hopefully it gets resolved soon...

Mine arrived at last today. Will be interested to see if 2160 arrives at the usual time or not - if it's a third week in a row getting here at the same time (or later) than it's out in newsagents then I think I'll be making my first complaint in the 15 years I've been a sub. Fingers crossed it's just been a wobble these last couple of weeks though.

Post by: IndigoPrime on 30 November, 2019, 02:42:26 PM
Hard to say. Locally, we had nothing from 18–22 Nov, and then 11 items on the Saturday, which clearly isn't normal. That included two issues of 2000 AD, a week-late Meg, and stuff that had clearly been stacked across the week. Royal Mail said nothing had been reported, but they could if I wanted investigate directly with the depot. I figured what's the point?

Not sure, TBH. My guess at the moment is that it's a combination of seasonal and election mail causing an issue, but that could be totally off-base. I've certainly never had this many late progs in a row, all while the rest of our usual mail is apparently arriving on time.

This is either the third or fourth week in a row again.  I think if it is a case of this is going to be the norm due to logistics with the printer then clarification would be helpful.

As it is I am now going with the expectation that it will turn up either tuesday or wednesday now and if it turns up earlier it is a bonus.

For the first time in several weeks, my prog arrived on Saturday, as is right and proper. I don't think the issues can have been related to the printing of the prog, simply because it's been arriving on the high street shelves on time (I assume?).

I suspect we have to point the finger at the postal service, which seems to have been struggling generally if the arrival of stuff I've ordered online over the last few weeks is anything to go by.

Prog 2159 didn't turn up at my local Smiths and I ended up having to order one of the recent Guatemala issues from the 2000AD shop. Menzies usually gets the blame.

I keep thinking about going digital. It goes against my general principles, but I've boxes full of progs that never get taken out of the garage (yes, not good, I know) and lack of space is a problem. The fact that so many of my favourite artists (who would benefit from the larger format) are either retired or passed on is making me reluctant to keep paying for a paper copy.

Regards,

Robin

What Jim said. Royal Mail is garbage right now. Our local is randomly stacking. And it's not just the Prog. Mini-G's Phoenix, which used to arrive like clockwork every single Friday, now rocks up on Saturday or Monday.

As for digital vs paper, my Progs and Megs are all under the spare room bed. I think I run out of room in a year. Not sure what happens after that.

X-mas and election seem likely candidates. As Indigoprime said even The Phoenix which you used to be able to set your clock by (assuming your clock  only needs to inform you it Friday) has been slipping the last few weeks.

As if to prove that particular point, mini-IP's Phoenix just arrived. So that's a late delivery (gone 2pm, when our mail is usually here around 10) two days after the comic is supposed to arrive. No 2000 AD as yet, obv.

no prog here - it might be exacerbated by Xmas, but it has been going on months now - no offical word from Tharg?  A simple "not us Guvnor" would suffice.

No prog, but joy of joys my subs pin arrived!

And a 'luvverley' thing it is, too!

Thanks Tharg.

Yeah its really nice isn't it. Much chunkier than expected. The question remains do I replace the Concrete pin I currently have on my beanie (funnily enough I think bought off Bolt-01) with it???

Anyway Prog has landed in windsweep Sheffield.

Prog last night, too. Need to do a re-read on deadworld methinks. This was the first episode where I was genuinely lost as to some of the events.

Colin - glad to hear you still have the pin! My subs pin has joined my cork board with all my others on display.

I've no idea what's going on in Deadworld now. It seems packed full of ideas, but who was infiltrating/possessing what has somehow eluded me.

Hope was great. I regret not buying the trade when it was on sale now.

Nothing at HuffMasion, but I wasn't home last night and the trains are off, so it maybe some time before I find out if my prog 'n' pin's arrived... :o

Prog arrived today, after I had read it in Smiths (totally fair!)

This has been on going since late August/Early September, so I don't buy the idea it is just Christmas or the Election messing us about - and Tharg still hasn't commented which I find a bit odd - didn't we all get a ridiculousoly over generous money off voucher when this happened just one week - this has been going on 12.  Not that I am angling for any sort of voucher mind (didn't/haven't spent the last one), but I would prefer Tharg to tell us that he is not to blame as a starter for seeing if there is ever going to be a resolution or if this is the new norm

The discount was a one-off because the cock-up happened with their warehouse/distribution - most of the year, the prog goes out from the warehouses the same time as it always did, but the Royal Mail is just getting progressively shitter.

Yeah, which is why I am presumming this is the Royal Mail, though it would be nice to have confirmation that Tharg is at least prodding the post Droids to see what is up, given it doesn't seem to be resolving on its own?

Mini-G currently in a strop and "sad" because her Phoenix didn't arrive today. I really hope this Royal Mail mess all goes away after the holidays.

The boy child has come to expect it. I used its absense as an opportunity to explain why privitisation is a bad thing. If we've learnt anything recently we must take ever chance to make the next generation not a bunch of fuckwits like the current voting population.

No Prog here as yet – but then also no post at all. No Phoenix either, and no Beano this week in stores. Mini-G's going to be bouncing off the bloody walls.

Aha – Phoenix just landed, along with mini-G's OKIDO. No Prog/Meg. Ironically, this month's Hachette books arrived three days earlier than expected. I now look forward to getting no delivery at all in January, as is customary.

Was that the Christmas issue?  We're still waiting for ours (and the Christmas Prog) and I'm seriously hoping for some imminent postie action before we head off for a week of turkey-related shenanigans.

Ah, we got that one earlier this week - probably won't get a second issue before we head off.  As long as the Chrimbo Prog arrives today or tomorrow I don't mind, though!

Well I'd ordered a bunch of Bunny vs. Monkey and Corpse Talk books as Christmas presents so I guess we'll cope.  Also renewed the boys' annual subscription and also their Aquila sub while I was at it (nothing but lint in my pockets now).

I just went for a Beano sub, on the basis we were buying it every week anyway. Sterling service from DCT. They're currently running a gun as a gift, and we're not into that. One DM and one email later and I have a selection of alternatives. They dispatched a Gnasher backpack before I'd even subscribed. And I mentioned the gift thing on subscribing and they said "Oh, that's not good that you didn't like the gift" and added a small discount. I'm like: ... OK.

As for BvM, we ordered the entire set for Christmas. I suspect that will be greeted with joy, and then: "I really wanted the Looshkin books as well". (Mini-IP is a bit young for Corpse Talk, but has really been enjoying having me read them to her in recent issues.)

I'll let someone else grab the Prog thread, seeing as I've not read any of mine yet. But I thought I'd note that I got a Saturday Prog for the first time in ages. 2163 landed today. Ironically, The Phoenix was a day late!

Yeah apparently the Phoenix is changing its printer or distributor or some such. That makes me nervous as its always been so reliable.

Got mine too (Great Dredd opener!) though I would sound a note of caution with regards drawing any conclusions - it is my (possibly faulty) memory that the first prog of the year has turned up a week or more early in previous years?

2000 AD, Meg and mini-G's first Beano sub today. Phoenix yesterday. Local post working.

moly: if you've not received three in a row, that does suggest a call or email to customer services would be a very good idea.
