Books & Comics / New British Comic - 'Mary Boys'
06 August, 2019, 10:41:00 PM
Hi everyone,

I'm starting my crowdfunding campaign in September and wanted to spread the word.

Mary Boys is about four teenage Knights Templar from a backwater English town at the fag-end of the 20th century. Their guardian and mentor is an old Catholic priest named Parrish who raised them in the ancient Templar traditions after an attempted robbery left him with a bullet in his skull and flashbacks to a past life when he was a member of the original Order of the Knights Templar from the 13th century.

The Mary Boys are quadruplets born with a genetic condition that enlarged hands and feet, distorted facial features  and prevents them from growing body hair. It also affects the way they metabolise alcohol. So, drinking beer endows them with almost superhuman strength and endurance (unlike the rest of us who just get plain old drunk).

Basham, the boys' home town, is a town riddled with many social problems thanks to a huge retail corporation driving out small businesses, cutting jobs and leaving large sections of the community at the mercy of criminals. Parrish believes that the town will suffer a great biblical apocalypse unless it is purged from its evils. So, the boys roam the streets at night with their
cricket bats, heavy boots and lager cans to bring in some needed salvation. The mysterious
image of the Blessed Virgin is ever-present, guiding them in their fight against all kinds of
gangsters, hooligans and wrong-uns, including the Basham's own police force.

This Indiegogo campaign will cover the first two issues, which contains their origin story and introduces the major characters and themes.

Creative Common / Paper Problems
24 January, 2017, 01:10:37 PM
Hey guys. Long time no post. I've been busy learning how to bloody draw and have run into a snag that I'm hoping someone can shine some light on. So, any artists on here that use traditional media? I've gotten into using Dr Martin's inks lately (which I really like!) but I find that the 220gsm card I'm using does get a little tired and has a tendency to warp. So, I'm looking into getting some Strathmore 500 series (the 2 ply kind. 3 ply is way way way beyond my budget). Has anyone used this and can they vouch for it using drawing inks? Does anyone know what 2 ply is in gsm? I'm in the UK (like most of you, I guess), so this stuff isn't readily available. Thought I'd ask before I invest money in something that's unsuitable. Any suggestions on possible alternatives? Thank you kindly in advance.

Hi guys. I've been looking around for sheets of screen tone to apply to my attempts at comics. I've grown a little disenchanted with the ol' Potatoshop way of doing things and thought it would be way cool to take a traditional approach to the business at hand.

Right, so does anyone know where I can find a few sheets of non-manga screen tone or (first choice, but I don't think they make it anymore) Duo Shade Paper as used by Mirage Studios back in the day.

In London, hitting rock bottom isn't all it's cracked up to be....

Indeed, when Norman gets stabbed and thrown in the Thames, little does he know that he would soon be taking a bad trip through a subterranean nightmare jungle, writhing with curious creatures and ectoplasmic manifestations (GHOSTS, stupid!). It is here that he will be forced to confront the truth about his girlfriend's untimely death and unravel the mystery of the river Thames. Luckily he has a friend in the pick pocketing Belle, who keeps him ahead of carnivorous spectres, killer Chihuahuas, and black clad goblins in guyliner.
