Here's an original idea that I got leafing through the IoS's quiz pages. Basically it's a sequence of pictures that you use to solve the puzzle. In this case it will be name of a 2000ad/Megazine character, series or storyline.
For example :

Luke Kirby Night Stalker
Walker , obviously.
You won't believe this...

Easy peasy 1/5
er...
Go Machine!

You're both right!
Yup, it was Mean Machine!
Jonnystress... erm, it's a red cross... that Mercy Heights thingy :)
Here's a harder one (!) 3/5 maybe...

Judge Yellowscarfmoonpartycityscape
Judge something?
Judge Anderson - Shamballa
Thankyewverymuch. No Idea who that lad is, but I assume he's called Anderson.
Assuming I was right, here's my effort. I'd say this was about 2/5.
Easy peasy - Soul Gun Warrior. Now, give me a minute.
A quick easy one...
The Mind of Wolfie Smith!
The Anderson bloke was Wes Anderson director of Rushmore and The Life Aquatic. Thought Pamela would be too obvious!
Next up a pimpsy easy 2/5
I can't work that out and it's taken me fricking ages finding the images here, so it's a rollover:
PLUS you have to get button's, above.
garden cunt cunt
Ah, "Garden Cunt Cunt" - one of Alan mcKenzie's classic series, rather overlooked in the official history I've always felt.
Duds is very easy, but I can't get buttonman's at all to prevent confusion I won't post one answer and not the other. But I'm working on it...
buttonmans is surely not tyranny rex soft bodies?
Good answer Monarch, partial credit!
hmm
dead meat?
Bison!
Still waiting on the alledgedly easy garden one.
Plus this which ie either 1/5 or 4/5 depending on your ancient pop knowledge.
this is hard
what dot eh numbers 1/5 etc siginfy?
Free(?) de'Sade Heart? what?
1/5 is the supposed difficulty level ie how obscure it is.
You are about 50% there already!
Bad Company - The Krool Heart
Point to Wils.
Garden/Waterman/H to get.
Oh alright, I cave. The garden one is Zenith.
Correct
Zen garden
Pete Waterman - the Hitman
Ian "H from Steps" Watkins
ahhhh jaysis- that doesnt work!!
Zen Hit H
more Bison type ones please, it's too early
Another - suitable for morning brain.
Bad City Blue(s)?
Birmingham Hooker?
You've got the right idea there I think.
It's Second City Blues, isn't it?
Close... Blues is right. Brum's right, too - but not by name.
Yup!
The answer is probably more obscure than the clues for this one...
Fervent and Lobe?
On the off chance that was correct here's another gentle one...
Fervent and Lobe?
I knew it was too easy.
Strontium Dog, Bad Boys Bust?
Good answer!
Heavy Metal Dredd?
Here's one that's less literal and more on the phonetics. Still easy though!
No idea? Clue?
OK. Last bloke has a girls' name.
Well I got as far as Judge Dredd something something something before, then I forgot about it. Will see if I can have another think...
'Ere, Buttonman, I haven't a blind clue what the answer is, but what the hell is happening in that middle panel? Where's that arm coming from?
Not my drawing! It's his facial affliction that's relevant.
Hmm... Judge Dredd: Zitholehilary? Sounds like a Millar to me.
Judge Dredd the apocalypse war
Judge Dredd Pimp Putts
Judge Dredd Spots Ball
Judge Dredd Acne golf ball
Thats all I can get out of it.
I have one ready uploaded on Image Shack. Is okay for me to put it up or is this only the priviledge of the person works it out.
"Judge Dredd the apocalypse war"
Good man Stress. The JD bit's fair enough the rest is Pockmark - ball lips hole - Evelyn Waugh
i.e.pocklipswaugh = Apocalypse War. Well is you say it quickly.
I'm sure youe effort would be welcome ThryllSeekyr - Stress will be too busy creating his multiple entries for the next art competition!
>:(
yeah multiple entire

kidding ;)
I'll throw this 'un in. Should be eeeeaaassssy.
Abelard Snazz:)
See - told you it was easy! :-) I miss the four-eyed geek, I really do.
Nice simple one this, for all the mentally slow people such as myself, in order to counter all the rampant brain-boxery that's pervading this thread like a swarm of Mensa-affiliated literati locusts:
Link: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/BVirgo01/ole_achtung.jpg
So slow, in fact, that I pasted the image link in the wrong field...
Sancho Panzer
ewwww
Bollock brothers
Balls Bros?
doh
Quick attempt. Should be easy.
ahh
The Crystal Fanny Poker
Well the film's a Kubrick one, I know that much.
Quartz Zone Massacre?
Strontium Dog: The Killing?
Here's mine,
It should read out phonetically the name of a graphic novel without giving away the name of the main character.
The third picture ( The three monkeys.) may take abit more working out unless you all get it straight away.
It's actualley fours words. Although only two are hinted at. These two, the first and last words are joined by another two words ( A preposition followed by a adjective.) inthe middle. Which you naturally will just have to guess as you work out the clues to the important words.
Portrait of a Mutant

I think the second picture is a tyre tread?
Easy Peasey Pie!
groos mispronounciation of Sáine there!:)
Slaine Demon Killer

not groos
Tsk must be a record for easiness there ! Slightly harder...
wow no idea
but thanks for remonding me of ABCs "trying too hard" phase
Tried to make this one a bit trickier, but it'll probably still be too easy for you fiends...
Well I thought it could be ABC Warriors: The Red Death (ABC, Red Ken, Dr. Death) but I have no idea about the second picture.
ABC Warriors: Red Death, but I wouldn't have got it without Stress' clue.
D'oh!
Do all those people in burgundy pants with arms aloft represent "The"?
Do all those people in burgundy pants with arms aloft represent "The"?They're from the Striker cartoon that runs in The Sun. I only realised this afterwards, and a bit of research revels the team in it are none other than...
Link: Warbury Warriors
Ming got it first up.
As it should read
Port Tread ( OF A ) Mute Ant
You woiuld of had to interpret the third picutre with the monkye covering it's mouth circled as a MUTE. ( Can't speak) Not that monkeys do that anyway.
*************************************************
Guessing that last picture.
Vampire Parade.
'Fiends of the Eastern Front'
That second one is wild stab in the dark.
subtle!! If only buttonmans art could be describes as such :)
heres one I just thought of
Its a bit easy
goddammit >:(
There- there it is
Bradley?
close- it's a teo-eyed male human..sort of..but please try again
and teach me how to post multiple images
and how to type without making spelling mistakes
Has Tulkus' been solved? I missed it first time around in the frenzy of quizzing.
Could it be as simple as BLAIR-1?
johnnystress: and teach me how to post multiple images
You have to include the "a" tags in the body of your post. I use photobucket to host the images and it generates the code for you so you can just paste them all in after each other. I think some of the others are sticking them all together into one image before themselves first.
ThryllSeekyr: Guessing that last picture. 'Fiends of the Eastern Front'
Afraid not, that was a bit of deliberate misinformation on my part. It's a character you're looking for here.
What I do Johnny is copy the pics to clipboard and then paste them into paintbox. You can then resize them to a uniform height. Once all in place pull in the white area so only your pics show and save the image to your computer. Then upload to photobucket or other image hoster. This will give you the url to post it here in the normal fashion.
Has Tulkus' been solved? I missed it first time around in the frenzy of quizzing.
I think my second answer is right, but he hasn't been back to confirm and bestow my laurels yet.
I think it was Crystal Fanny Poker. Well the lady's no oil painting, possibly a Dog, the film's Kubrick's The Killing so we probably assumed the crystally thing was supposed to be Strontium. Maybe not, thought!
johnnystress, multiple images in one post can be done with [img src=] blah blah [img src=], replacing square brackets with pointy ones. Or you can waste time and paste single images into a strip using graphic converter (Mac) or whatever PCs have.
thanks lads
Ah very good. Wouldn't have got 'The Killing' in 100 years.
What Id di was saving a few photo formt he wbe to my desktop and reopening each one in 'Paint' ( It comes with the Windows 2000 software that came with my computer.) and saving them. I then cut n pasted each one of them on to a small page I had also opened and pasted them there. Resising them to desireable proportions using 'Attributes under the 'Image' command. Painting a red circle around one of the monkeys myself. I then just save this again and upload the image to 'Image Shack' which is much more efficient than 'PhotoBucket' From there I click on the image thumbnaiol and right click on it again. I highlight the image properties, Copy the URL addres and just paste that in the Optional Image URL box below.
Easy.
Though I don't otherwise know how to post multible images directly from the internet though.
Chesus, only went to lunch and this thread has thundered on.
Strontium Dog: The Killing.
Good guess Cosh.
After I'd posted it I though "Crystal Fanny Poker" but kept it as the title of a Futurequake story.
The Dog is Jade Goody. Eww little bit of celebrity bashing there.
Tulkas.
Corrrr, shes not too bad looking. It's just a bad photo.
"Corrrr,"
wow
I need a clue Cosh - what's that middle thing? A diode?
I need a clue Cosh - what's that middle thing? A diode?
You're on the right track: it's a graphic representation of a logic gate. Finding out which one might help.
hold on while I apply for a degree in physics- I'll be about 5 years
Max Normal.
Not sure about the middle bit, but I think yer feller on the left is Max Shreck, and that'll be the Mall on the right.
So the diagram is... uh... A Norm. Obviously.
Er.
(P.S: Loving this thread)
Dammit you got there first - the middle bits a NOR gate...
Max Normal.
Not sure about the middle bit, but I think yer feller on the left is Max Shreck, and that'll be the Mall on the right.
So the diagram is... uh... A Norm. Obviously.
Well done sir. The middle one is a NOR gate (for Not OR, which only produces a true result when both outputs are false.) I thought Max Schreck might throw a few but was confident some of the film buffs (button...) would get it.
This one's another easy one; no character name involved, just a specific story title.
The Kid-Knee Caper?
Slightly more complex, but still hopefully pretty easy.
I should be working.
Easy one, but fun to put together.
Bloody Hell they're piling up!
Last one is Strontium Dog : The Doc Quince case.
Working on the others...
Last one is Strontium Dog : The Doc Quince case.
Damn. I was thinking Ulysses Sweet: Fruitcake and Veg
Rose O'Rion?
I'm not keen on the way you only colour one of your toenails, Si.
It's not Rose O'Rion, but impressively, I guess - with a bit of a stretch - it *could* be.
Still. WRONG.
Mine: clue = a Dredd story. It'll help if you can figure out what the people in the last pic are doing...
Looney's Moon? Is that a story title?
fence-shitting?
Is there a Dredd story called "loonies moon", or sommink?
Nice one Buttonman.
How about this?
Don't know the bald guy is, but it's Oz.
Slightly different approach here. The picture is a cryptic clue to the whole thing rather than breaking it down into segments.
It's the title of a particular story. Belardinelli art.
ah Croke Park this weekend!
The Dead?
If it's Oz the bald guy should be obvious.
He's the original one.
Chopper?
Judge Dread. He looks terrible.
is it Chopper? I'd have used this..or the bike..or an axe...or a mickey
Judge Dread
Wow! I didnt recognise him at all! he looks like something youd see on Eurovision
Cosh's one will be 'Mean Arena' although Dredd's 'Beggars' Banquet' would be more appropriate!
"Judge Dread. He looks terrible."
Seeing as he died on stage in 1998 he's looking pretty good in that piccie.
Cosh's one will be 'Mean Arena' although Dredd's 'Beggars' Banquet' would be more appropriate!
Oh, good try. Unfortunately, I think you've mixed up Mean Team (which Belardinelli did draw) and Mean Arena (which he didn't.) Neither are right and it's the title of a story rather than a strip if you get what I mean.
"Is there a Dredd story called "loonies moon", or sommink?"
Loonies Moon, prog 192:
Link: Splundig Vur Ho, Ho, Ho!
Amstor, Amstor, what have you done? I can't look at that prog cover without shuddering...
Loonies Moon, prog 192
Exactly - that's the one. The Judge Dredd: Fence Shitters of the Black Atlantic is obviously one of those thrills sitting in a lead-lined vault.
By the way, that mooning pic is from some annual event in the states, where people spend a whole day mooning the Amtrak trains as they pass; people book tickets especially, apparently. The things you learn trwaling for images for this thread...
Spurioso- please , what the hell was the Peter O Toole minus Eyeball thing?
I really want to be the one to get Si's.
But I'm not.
So here's an easy one-pic wonder for you!
If nobody's got the tricky Spurioso one by tomorrow, I'll spill the beans.
'Til then: What's another way of expressing the sentiment in the first picture?
SI'S = TAO DE MOTO - came to me in a dream!
Excellent work! Big noprize on its way to you now!
Could the blokes in jackets be 'Mambo'?
I'll pretend that's right and post this which will take 5% of the time Si's took.
Cosh : I've narrowed yours down to 'Inferno' or 'Too Many Bams'. Either fits nicely!
Could it be "Mambo"? Nah, that'd be a bit more Latinate.
So the unsolved ones are...
+
and a new one for luck...
The one with the bird is Janus, Psi Division.
Cosh : I've narrowed yours down to 'Inferno' or 'Too Many Bams'. Either fits nicely!
Chapeau, as those crazy Frenchmen would say. Too Many Bams was the one I had in mind.
While I was in the pub earlier I finally thought that the skinheads in Si's might be "demo" rather than "walk", "march" or "scum" but you'd beaten me to it you devil.
Well done Matthew.
Jay Anus S High Division
Dudley's one with the barbershop quartet must be Freaks.
Nope!
I'm not allowed to go to the pub so I can devote myself to full time puzzle solving.
Matthew, why have you tagged your image 'no clues here'? You don't think people would look up the properties in a bid to cheat do you? I of course right clicked accidentally and then accidentally hit 'properties'.
Nemesis Book V: The Vengeance of Thoth?
I got Matthew's although it did mean trawling through loads of (mostly skuddy) images of Ursula Andress.
It's SHIMURA
SHE-MUIR-RAH.
I know there are two outstanding but as I'm out tomorrow I thought I'd leave you with this.
That would be Savage - Double Yellow.
Haven't a clue on the other two though.
Button, you complain about having to search through pictures of Ursula Andress yet you willingly found a picture of an anus?!
After a day of bewilderment, my answer for the three outstanding ones is 'No idea'. Clue time?
I was going to use this one but decided it was too easy which is when I came up with the baseball one.
I can't think of any clue for the baseball one that doesn't give it away but I was being a bit mean & deliberately went for an obscure story. It ran in one prog.
Men in jackets - don't say what you see, say what you hear...
Harmony!
Bing! 1 point to Matthewvic!
The Sooty one is...
Harry 20 on the High Rock
Yup.
The sweets are American.
CANDY AND THE CATCHMAN
Should've got that earlier, that was one of my faves. Grant Morrison and the cracking pay off 'I'm Billy Candy and it happened yesterday'!
Character and Storyline...
Nikolai Dante The Great Game?
Solely based on the last two pics.
Last two picks show 'Cheese Hooker' how did you get it from that?!
OK well done.
Nick - oh! - lei / Dan - tea /Grate -(on the) Game
I'm crap at these sort of things, so mine has the same difficulty level as a GMTV phone-in competition.
