I don't know if anyone's at home to update Barney (http://"http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=prog&page=profiles") these days, but I noticed that prog 1663 is missing its Droid Life.
And Barney (http://www.2000ad.org/?zone=prog&page=profiles)'s gone 404.
Ee-ouk!
NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Barney come back.What do we we need to do?

It's you, Funt. You've worn the poor thing out with your researchifying and spreadsheetening.
Don't leave us, Barney! If any of my circuits or gears will help, I'll gladly donate them.

Strange, it was working a couple of hours ago.
I believe Wakefield Carter owned it but Cosh as admin rights. If it's not back in the morning I'll give him a shout and see if there's anything we can do. Fingers crossed just a blip?

Also mine.

Yeah, it's definitely Wake's baby with Cosh curating. Am also hoping it's a blip. It's such a valuable resource.
I was only on there this time yesterday looking up the 2000AD 1981 annnual... say it ain't so!
Its a great resource, I use it all the time.
a million thanks to who ever put i togather!
james
Blimey. No idea.
Just jumping on here, if anything's needed to get it up and running I'd be happy to help too! This is a very important resource to the fandom!
yeah same - it's utterly invaluable. I'd happily donate (money and/or time) to help get it back online.
Hopefully just a temporary blip
A terrifying thought, to live in a world without Barney. Hell, if we need to rebuild it from scratch sign me up for some late-night data entry sessions. But hopefully it won't come to that.
It's going to be pretty difficult updating blogs, podcasts and the like if Barney isn't back online soon!
It should be nationalised.
p.s. my first thought was maybe the domain hadn't been renewed, but it's still got two months left (https://whois.domaintools.com/2000ad.org).
Barney is 404!?!
Can this ****ing year get any worse?
Just got a reply. Wake's on the case. Sounds like the site's on Rebellion hardware somewhere.
Update: Rebellion's replied and said they'll look into it.

Could you salute Wake from me (and I think its safe to assume others) and let him know we don't take Barney for granted!
Yay Wake!
Our cleaner at work used to unplug the Internet server so that they could plug in their vacuum cleaner.
We had to put a large neon sign above the socket that said: "DANGER! DO NOT TOUCH THIS MONSTROUSLY IMPORTANT INTERNET SERVER POWER SOURCE, MAN!"
So, y'know, maybe the cleaner unplugged Barney.
How has this not been the plot of a Future Shock? (Or I guess it'd play more like a Terror Tale...)
I guess Rebellion is too tech savvy a company to buy a plot about someone unplugging the Solar System's internet server hidden on the Dark Side of the Moon.

I'm not sure if it was the cleaner but it seems like that's not too far from the truth.
Rebellion are working to restore it, and personally I'm very glad that it was due to an error rather than a cyber attack.
Once it's back on I'll prioritise the latest cover from the Cosh so he can bring it back up to date.
-we're not worthy- :thumbsup:
Wake I think this outage has drawn me from my taking things for granted lethary and can I say two things.
First thank you so much for creating and sheparding Barney to where it is today - I know the Mighty Cosh does a lot of the leg work these days, but its great to know you are still there overlooking things. Barney is such an invaluble resource and its only when its not there have I fully realised quite how often I use it. So a heartly virtual hug from me - providing my invasion of your virtual space isn't over stepping your virtual boundaries.
Secondly if there are 'Any of my parts can help' with the up keep and maintenance of this most wonderful of things when its back let me know. I don't know what would be needed, but hopefully as a Systems Librarian (well I'm hanging onto the librarian bit by my finger nails!) I will have something to offer an online database support... if you need an appointment system for Student Wellbeing settin.. no... no need for that... okay, okay... but anything else ask and I'll put what time I can into this.
Thanks again.
Are we sure that it has not been hacked by the The Dictators of Zrag?
In the event that 2000ad.org isn't resurrected then I could move it to 2000ad.net.
However, there would be a whole bunch of files with code like this:
$query = "SELECT ProgNumber FROM $CoverStory ORDER by ProgDate";
$choiceResult = mysql_query($query);
$rows = mysql_num_rows($choiceResult);
$FirstProg = mysql_result($choiceResult, 0, "ProgNumber");
$LatestProg = floor(mysql_result($choiceResult, $rows - 1, "ProgNumber"));
which would need to be edited to look more like this:
$query = "SELECT ProgNumber FROM $CoverStory ORDER by ProgDate";
$ChoiceResult = mysqli_query($link,$query);
$rows=mysqli_num_rows($ChoiceResult)
$row = mysqli_fetch_row($ChoiceResult);
$FirstProg = $row[0];
$LatestProg = ???
The advantage is that I'd then have phpMyAdmin access to the database again, rather than having to do everything through bespoke code.
However, fingers crossed it won't come to this. The advantage of easier access is more than outweighed by the disadvantages of an address change and recoding.
If it comes to grinding through that sort of stuff count me in.
Once this is all sorted out - what would be the best way to add things? As I recall things like text stories in annuals, everything related to Starlord, Tornado and probably Crisis and Revolver could do with a bit of filling in. I have all those by the way and am offering.
I think I contacted Wake a long time ago (must have been around 2002) but I didn't follow up - sorry, Wake! As I remember there was something about excel and probably .csv back then.
I have libre office or whatever staroffice/open office is called this week :-)
I don't post on here very much, but have recently been having a bit of a massive 2000ad re-read the last few weeks - and have always found Barney to be incredibly useful.
Was devastated to find it had gone! How on earth do I work out which of my Best of 2000ad Monthly's that next Robo Hunter story was in etc. without it!
Just want to confirm how much it is appreciated! There is such a history of zarjaz goodness in that one site!
I love Barney. Please hurry back. Miss you so much!

I guess it will depend in what form Barney makes it back and I don't want to step on Wake's toes there.
Assuming it is resurrected in its existing state then there used to be a thread where people stuck up corrections or, if there's a lot to add/change, you can send it to Wake or me and we can sort it.
What is it that you have? I know a lot of the "Beyond 2000AD" stuff is missing page counts and so on.

No worries - I'm not an IT professional but am tech-savvy enough to be the first port of call in my office when there's computer problems. My favourite html-editor is notepad or gedit, depending on operating system.
Original content-wise, I have in my possession:
- every prog of 2000AD
- every issue of Starlord
- the same for Tornado
- and the Megazine
- and Lawman of the Future
- and DC Dredd (main series and Legends of the Law) plus all the Batman/Lobo/Dredd crossovers
- plus IDW Dredd, Rogue, Anderson, Mars Attacks!, Dredd/Predator/Aliens
- every annual, special and yearbook for 2000AD, Starlord, Tornado, Dredd and Rogue Trooper, including that 1990s Action special
- all the poster progs from the 1977 Dan Dare one to the 1995 Dredd film ones (but not the Nemesis one to my eternal chagrin as that's my favourite series)
- all the Virgin novels
- everything Games Workshop published with the 2000AD licence, except maybe for a solo variant of one of the boardgames in White Dwarf (I have all the other White Dwarf material)
I've got incomplete runs of:
- novels that came after Virgin
- roleplaying games that came after Games Workshop
- current fanzines (Zarjaz, Dogbreath and Sector 13)
I don't have:
- phonecards
- the old fanzines
- the latest IDW mini-series - should do something about that when the shops reopen
That is one helluva comprehensive collection, sir.

Just noticed that Touched By the Hand of Tharg (http://www.2000ad.org/thrillpower/) was on the same domain as Barney and so is also 404.
I'm planning to dive-chute into Rebellion HQ from low orbit, dodge their phase-resonance scan::laser mesh using a high ordinance tachyon baffler, trigger a localized T-field nano-extrapolater to phase into their server vault and plug that machine back into the wall. Smoke me a kipper - I'll be back for breakfast!

Just while we're memorializing, the "Touched by the Hand of Tharg" was a key website when I was first reading 2000AD, and I hadn't found the larger 2000AD fandom yet. All this stuff is so important for a comic that doesn't have the world's largest fandom. Some comic lines have multiple fan and official wikis with extensive documentation, for our stuff there are just a few lone outposts of info. They're all valuable and needed! (I mean, needed in a "I like reading out my chosen media" kind of way, you know).
2000ad.org is back up this morning
I'm still having difficulty accessing http://www.2000ad.org/artwork/ (http://www.2000ad.org/artwork/) but http://2000ad.org/markus/ (http://2000ad.org/markus/) and http://2000ad.org/thrillpower/ (http://2000ad.org/thrillpower/) are fine. The issue seems to be with the www part of the domain.
Cheers,
Wake
I checked in a book, a big book all red leather bound and creeky spined. It was a book that carried authority and value. I opened that book, carefully because it commanded respect and patiently looked through its contents. In it I found the following entry:
Wake - Wakefield Morys-Carter - Probably the greatest example of humankind. Even if he didn't fix it himself he created it and brought the news of its return.
(1) Also see Barney (2000ad) for 'it' / 'its'
(2) Also see 'Person who actually fixed it' / 'Second greatest example of humankind'
(3) Also see 'I, Cosh' maintainer of 'it' - see (1) and previous holder of 'third greatest example of humankind' until the whole not getting his vote in for Alan Grant debacle - now that title belongs to Pete Wells or summit.
I then closed this tome for it had provided all I needed to know. For now. When its needed I'll open the book again I'm sure.

Well done and thanks. The artwork home page appears to be back up (though I didn't follow any links to sub pages from there).
Thank you Wake
The www subdomain has now been enabled so all of the pages (that were working before) should now be working. I'm currently preparing the 2019 covers (that the Cosh sent me in December!) for upload.
This is excellent news! Thank you for your efforts!
Adding to the chorus: thanks, Wake, for Barney, and also for looking into its temporary demise so quickly.

(But I wouldn't me doing my job as Pedant-in-Chief if I didn't point out that the mediumres of prog 2161 is missing.)
Our long national nightmare has finally ended.
:D Happiness is a website called Barney
O frabjous day! Callooh! Barnay!
Florix Grabundae to Wake, unsung IT persons and/or pluggers-back-in, and in perpetuity to the near-mythical Cosh.
Just adding my voice to the gratitiude for maintaining Barney - it's an amazing resource thanks for your hard work guys.
Just wanted to add my gratitude/thanks/relief for Barney, what a resource.
All hail Barney!
