First glimpse of Simon Bisley's art on forthcoming Joe Pineapples story - don't know why but I'd supposed it was going to be black and white...

Film & TV / The Man in the High Castle

Only just managed to catch this series - two down and a third series (sorry, season) on its way this year.

Can't find any thread about it, but the first series was about three years ago or more.

It's been a fair time since I read the book (nearly twenty years) so can't remember how close an adaptation it is - don't remember the antique dealer at all, but Rackle has read the first few chapters since we watched the series and he's in there right from the beginning.

I don't think this has been posted on the forum yet.  While we're waiting for the upcoming WOIN Judge Dredd and the Worlds of 2000AD roleplaying game, here's a recent podcast interviewing Marc Gascoigne:
Armchair Adventurer - says 'part 1', so I'll try to remember to update this thread when part 2 comes out.

Website and Forum / News to Reviews

Any chance that 'news' threads about forthcoming releases can be moved to reviews once the thing (comic, novel, film, etc) actually comes out?  I'm thinking in particular of the My Life in the Command Centre threads, of which I think there were three - the one I started was because I couldn't find anything in reviews, despite being sure I'd seen a thread earlier (turns out it was in news, because at the time it was).

p.s. please!

General / Dark Justice / Dominion / The Torture Garden
« on: 12 January, 2018, 12:01:04 am »
After waiting two years post-Chaos Day, I must confess I was a little disappointed by Dark Justice.  It looked great and was a competent story, nice world-building.  But we'd been told that Wagner had sworn off of writing more Dark Judges but was only swayed when he saw a particular painting by Staples, and that this had sparked an idea.  As I say, two years, hype and expectations meant that to me it was a good story, but not a great one.

However, with the conclusion of Dominion and the promise of The Torture Garden to come it's getting much more interesting, taking the three as a whole.  The main strength, of course, is that outside of Mega-City One, anything could happen.  With The Fall of Deadworld we know with near certainty that sooner or later all the living characters are going to die at some point (barring trans-dimensional or possibly off-planet escape).  The only characters here can easily live or die without causing any continuity or logistics headaches with other stories (as long as they keep away from Badrock!)

Now, how long will we have to wait for The Torture Garden?

Film & TV / Britannia
« on: 08 January, 2018, 09:54:13 pm »
I don't have a TV, so usually only binge watch while house-sitting, which we did this Christmas/New Year.  Trailers for Britannia seemed to appear at every second ad break - anyone else like the look of this?

trailer, with blood, violence and swears.

News / 25 Years of Rebellion

Metro: 25 years of Rebellion.

Interestingly, the following quote from Jason (referring to the Rebellion era, obviously - not the half a million or more early IPC days):
Flatteringly, we’ve got more readers than ever, we’re releasing content digitally now so we’re reaching a much broader audience worldwide.

Also - In noticed there was an early adventure gamebook, illustrated by Jon Davis - any relation to Jon Davis-Hunt?

Rackle and me went to this today:

News / Judges!
« on: 04 October, 2017, 05:52:50 pm »
Abaddon Books announces brand new series for 2018: Judges!
In a time of widespread poverty, inequality and political unrest, Eustace Fargo’s controversial new justice laws have come into effect.

Protests and violence meet the first judges as they hit the street to enforce the Law; the cure, it’s clear is far worse than the disease.

Is this a sign of things to come?

Help! / Name that Shock!
« on: 10 September, 2017, 02:29:08 pm »
Hi all,

I have a friend who noticed my copy of the Ultimate Collection Volume One and asked me about a story she'd read many years ago (probably late eighties / early nineties).  It's either a Future Shock or similar one-off and features an empire (presumably galactic) which has been in decline.  This is where it gets hazy, but it seems similar to the Plutonium Horde which ends up going around the galaxy, which is spherical, and ends up wiping out the remnants of a now decadent empire which ends up being its start point, but it's not that one.  From what she said I was also reminded of a shock (possibly from Starlord) where humanity retreats underground after a war, evolves into a subterranean creature and eventually emerges on the surface, ending up getting killed by a gardener as they're now moles.

Sorry, I know it's not much to go on, but any ideas?
