Quick 2 min sketch of Dredd while sitting through a moderation meeting at work...  No one noticed.

Like I said, I rushed these pages and I am completely aware that it's not even near my best work. I know my own strengths and limitations.

I only posted the pages here because I know they're never going to see print and just wanted to share them. I'm not after an ego boost or anything but thanks for any kind words.

If you're interested I put up some pencils for the Sorrowhill sample script in the sample script thread. Just need to finish inking them...

Golden rule #1: Never show a prospective employer work you're not happy with. Don't mean that to sound harsh but if you're not happy with the work better to wait until you're satisfied with it.

Yeah, I know. Hindsight is a bitch.

Why do wannabe artists show work to the forum that is never going to get them a commission?

Maybe because we love of the medium of comics? Or maybe because that is the point of this forum, as in it is a 'Creative Common' where people can share work and share experiences?

Maybe it's because I, like a lot of comic fans, are interested in the processes that go in to making a comic and maybe, just maybe,  I thought that a forum such as this would take some measure of interest in such a post.

It's not like I'm bitching about not getting a job or anything. I clearly know why it's a bit shit. I am aware of the faults in the pages I posted and have clearly highlighted them.

I just thought it would be nice to share some stuff to become involved in the community.

Back before Kapow! I though I'd go and hunt down Tharg and show him my portfolio but realised I had nothing to do with 2000AD in it. I drew these over two weeks after work. Matt was quite nice about it considering it was completely rushed and I kinda made up the references for the Judges as I went along.

Anyway, here they are. Some panels are terrible and I'm a little embarrassed by them but I'm happy with most of them I guess.

Hi, I'm hoping to find someone to collaborate with for a pitch. If you don't know the DFC was a short lived childrens comic which aimed at the 8-12 age range, stories that were engaging and clever but with relevant themes.

They're relaunching as 'The Phoenix' and I'm looking to pitch an episodic story called 'The Well'. I'm currently in the middle of another project so I'm looking for someone to take over art duties for about 5-10 pages (preferably colouring too but I know a few people).

Here's some of the concept stuff I've done so far and a brief synopsis. I think it'd be a fun draw.

Matt is caught off guard when his older friend Shelly tries to kiss him in the woods one day. Embarrassed and lost, Matt tries to run back but encounters a pack small carved shield monsters who chase him frantically. He is rescued by an armless tribe who explain the shield monsters are under the control of the horrific Captain, the monster that stole their arms and lives down a well sat atop a huge monolith. With nowhere else to go Matt finds himself a slave to the armless tribe and is forced in to confronting the Captain. To do this Matt must face the army of shield monsters, breach the monolith and enter the mysterious realm down The Well...

Who is this mysterious Captain and what is his link to Matt? What lies down the well and what is the Captain doing so many arms down there?

Combining aspects of fantasy and fairytale with a grimm reality, The Well is a story of lost innocence, sacrifice and responsibility. Matt must leave behind his childhood and face the biggest challenge of his young life.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm a bit hesitant to actually ink it as that always seems to be the stage where it loses something. I spoke to Tharg at Kapow! and showed him some inked Dredd stuff I'd done and he said the inking let it down a bit.

Still, at least I've saved my pencils this time so if i screw it up I can go back and redo it.

If your interested i have some stuff up at http://danielbellcomics.carbonmade.com/ and I'm part of Underfire Comics http://www.underfire-comics.com/online/.

thanks again.

Hey everyone, here's my attempt at Sorrowhill. There just pencils so it's still a work in progress but any feedback will be welcome.

Thanks
