Off Topic / Vincent
« on: 14 January, 2019, 10:22:23 am »
I'm not aware that he's spent any time on the forum, but many UK convention goers will know Vincent Mallia from his cosplaying.

He has recently suffered a stroke and is in hospital.  He's in a bad way.  His sister is going to discuss his condition with the consultants today.  If you know him and want any more information, PM me and I can give a few more details.

News / RIP Ron Smith
« on: 10 January, 2019, 12:50:55 pm »
2000AD facebook announcement.

He was the main Dredd artist when I joined the Squaxx.  The Stupid Gun, The Weather Man and the Graveyard Shift, punctuated with stories by other artists, such as the Starborn Thing, Cry of the Werewolf and Requiem for a Heavyweight.  So yes, my introduction to Judge Dredd was through the pens of Ron Smith, Carlos Ezquerra and Steve Dillon.

Other Reviews / Free Comic Book Day 2019
« on: 21 December, 2018, 12:02:29 am »
2000AD won't be doing a Free Comic Book Day comic next year (as I remember the official rules seemed to be an attempt to stop quality comics being published this year and last year).

All is not lost, however, as we'll be getting a 99p or 99c comic instead, featuring the villains of 2000AD!

Bleeding Cool had a rather misleading title, but also has a cover preview and a list of contents.

* Judge Death: The Judge Who Laughs by Rob Williams and Henrik Sahlstrom
* Lord Weird Slough Feg: Lord of the Hunt by Pat Mills and Kyle Hotz
* Brass and Bland: The Professionals by Karl Stock and Kael Ngu
* Stix: Sleeping Dogs Lie by Matt Smith and Chris Weston
* Terror Tale: Last of the Hellphibians by Henry Flint

(is that the first time Karl Stock has written a story for the Galaxy's Greatest, rather than an article?)

While there's no 2000AD FCBD this year, there will be Treasury of British Comics presents Funny Pages, making use of recent acquisitions by Rebellion, such as Sweeney Toddler.

General / intercompany crossovers you'ld like to see
« on: 06 October, 2018, 10:59:01 pm »
Inspired by the old 2000AD character crossovers you'd like to see thread, and also by having watched Justice League, featuring Diane Lane (Hershey in that film) and Batman, what inter-company crossovers would you like to see?  Since the nineties we've had the following:
  • Dredd / Batman (including the Joker, Scarecrow and a few other Bats villains)
  • Lobo / Judge Dredd
  • Judge Dredd vs Predator
  • Judge Dredd vs Aliens
  • Doctor Who vs Judge Dredd (well, it got written but the legal side didn't go through so the book had a few bits rewritten and released as purely a Doctor book)
  • Judge Dredd vs Aliens vs Predator
  • Mars Attacks Judge Dredd
  • Judge Dredd vs Razorjack
I think that's all the official (or semi-official in the case of Burning Heart) crossovers there have been...

General / droids you've forgotten
« on: 04 September, 2018, 08:51:26 pm »
So the 2000AD Twitterbot posted a Martin Emond cover that I'd completely forgotten about - I knew his work through Accident Man and White Trash (though a quick look now tells me he did more White Trash than I knew of, and a few Lobo stories that I'll have to investigate).

It got me thinking - what other script and art droids have I completely forgotten did work for the House of Tharg?  Obvious starting points - Neil Gaiman for his couple of Future Shocks and that text story from an annual, and the Dave McKean contents page from a Sci-Fi special.

Prog / Prog 2097 - Psychos A-Go-Go!
« on: 04 September, 2018, 08:26:29 pm »
Have I missed something here - I went looking for this week's prog thread but can't see it anywhere?

Behind a Neil Googe and Gary Caldwell cover there's a quick comp for Realm of the Damned: Signum Draconis before the prog proper.

Judge Dredd: The Booth Conspiracy Part 3 opens with a few one-liners about protests in MC1 before things start hotting up.

Survival Geeks: Slack n' Hash Part Two visits a few slasher film tropes (unsurprisingly) mixed in with a few teen flick elements.

The Order: The New World Part 11 shows us possibly our first glimpse of the Wormrealm, unless I've forgotten something from previous stories.

Mechastopheles: True Faith Part 6 people run about, things get smashed, burning happens.

Adverts for Misty Volume 3 and The Ballad of Halo Jones Volume 3 share a page (I have various editions of Halo, but I'll look forward to Misty - keeps getting released just before my birthday too).

Grey Area: Evidence - things start to converge, loving the dialogue on page four.

Admins - if I've somehow not been able to see the pre-existing prog thread, please merge!

Other Reviews / Judge Dredd: Toxic
« on: 30 August, 2018, 12:21:05 am »
No, not a crossover with the early 1990s British anthology comic, this is IDW's latest stab at the lawman.

Full-page ad at the back of Judge Dredd: Under Siege says it's by Paul Jenkins, Marco Castillo and Mark Buckingham.  My guess is it'll be a miniseries along Under Siege lines, rather than the longer-running IDW JD series...

Would that make it the first release under the Battle logo since the 1980s (early 1990s)?

Not my collection, but when I was in Mega-City Comics in Camden yesterday they mentioned that they'd just had a collection in, sans Prog 1, that had just been priced up - £1 for most progs, rising to £5 for selected early ones, with prog 2 higher.
