As for Mills, as someone in this business (albeit a different area – tech writing), I see royalties as a bonus on the for-hire contract I signed. I get that Mills wants better, but airing dirty laundry like this and his 'interesting' approach to IP rights anyway (that colouring book, for example) makes me wonder if at some point Rebellion will say: enough.

Pretty similar to how I see things.  If I left my current employer tomorrow some of the work I do will have effects long after I've left (and some of the templates, etc were originally created by people from over a decade ago) but I (and they) won't get any royalties.  That's part of the job.  If the contract I signed said I would get royalties or have partial or complete ownership of what I've created that would be difficult, but it didn't, so I don't.

p.s. I'm not saying that contracts (particularly those that end up in creative work that may be republished for decades to come) shouldn't respect the creators, just that once those contracts have been signed there's not much point complaining about not getting more than was on the paper.

I remember hearing about an afro-centric fantasy author, though can't remember his or her name.  Just trying to work out what search term I need to find 'african fantasy' or 'black fantasy' without returning... inappropriate... results.

This might be a good place to start though.

Just caught up. Silly beyond words. Evidently we should stop letting white men have sole charge of fantasy series.

What do colour and gender have to do with it?

I do wish people (or their blankets) would stop quoting Cromwell in defence of civil and political liberties.  He was Not A Nice Man, and very many of His Ideas And Actions Were Very Bad. It's akin to citing Mussolini in order to criticise frequent delays on your local commuter train.

See also: Churchill, Mother Teresa, the 5thC BCE city-state of Sparta.

You must mix in different political bubbles than I - what are they saying about Cromwell?  I always thought he was the bad guy, though I did grow up on The Adventures of Luther Arkwright.

Well, that surprised me.

General / Re: Free Comic Book Day - 2000ad???

My theory is that other publishers have been shamed by the quality output from 2000AD.  If you look at some of what the big two/three/however many count as 'big' these days - some are a couple of pages reprinted from existing comics, not even the semblance of a complete story.  I hasten to add that certain publishers in previous years actually do put out something that rivals the offerings from Rebellion (not sure how original the content is, but they're certainly comics that would be worth a fiver, or in a few cases a full squarebound graphic novel worth over a tenner).

By the way - other droids / ex-droids signing in Central London * are Si Spurrier, Mark Buckingham and Al Ewing.

the highlight was Smith & Weston working on Stix.

That's certainly a pistol-packing team!

For a moment I thought it was the same team who brought us Killing Time :-)

The Vestal Virgin 'Mater Clementia' who fought Felix and Aquilla in the fall of Rome...

...and that strange lady on the front cover of the album 'Goats Head Soup' by The Rolling Stones

I wasn't familiar with the album cover, so looked it up.  That ain't no lady - it's Mick Jagger!

As someone posted on twitter

I'm hoping for something along those lines too -
the original Night King was the result of the Children of the Forest's defence getting out of hand, so hopefully Qyburn's meddling will also escalate further than expected.  Otherwise we won't get the existential threat we've had since the first scene all those years ago
.

Is Jon's dragon still alive?
