In case this hasn't been mentioned elsewhere.   One of the more interesting suggestions of recent years...

Books & Comics / Abaddon sampler in new SFX
07 June, 2006, 10:50:28 PM
Wot it says on the tin.   Presumably the first chapter of each new novel, compiled into a little paperback.

Can't see if this has been mentioned elsewhere on this board, so here is a new thread covering this very interesting thing.

Off Topic / Judge Dredd: Doctor Who monster

I rate Kev Walker's artwork very highly indeed, but something's been bothering me about his close-ups of Dredd, and it only hit me last night: Dredd looks like an Ice Warrior.

Anyone mentioned this yet?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/4600291.stm

Not arsed about the director, but I didn't know who was playing Beast (assuming it's actually true).  Good casting.

Sorry if this has been mentioned here already, but I can't be bothered to go trawling to check!

General / Sci-Fi London's Future Shocks Competition?
28 February, 2004, 02:02:39 PM
According to a thread on the official messageboard, the winner of this competition - plus some other entries - should have appeared on this very site a few weeks back.  Does anyone know what's going on?  I'm very curious as to what they received.

General / Cool ships
31 October, 2002, 07:06:44 AM
Here's another thing that 2k strips need: cool spaceships.

Back in them thar good ol' days, we had things like the Blitzspear, the Preying Mantis, the Satan Dart, the Manta Prowl Tank... even Justice One was cool.

So what happened to the spaceships as characters?  Look at the Star Wars movies - we all know the names of all the ships, and they became characters in their own right.

It's essential we have cool spaceships in 2K - IMMEDIATELY!

2K needs more robot-centric strips.  Discuss.

General / TMO on ITV?
10 October, 2002, 04:18:41 PM
Dunno if a thread about this has appeared before (if it has, please supply the link), but...

Does anybody else out there remember the 1977 TV advert for 2000AD's launch, featuring a bloke dressed up as Tharg and some dodgy animation?

"Or did I dream it?"

General / Dredd movie blah
17 May, 2002, 06:10:49 AM
Hello!

Trough here again, after seemingly months of trawling through rants about Scojo's script.

Hmm!  All this blah about Dredd casting reminds me of the old "should-Joanna-Lumley-play-the-next-Doctor" kerfuffle amongst Who fans.  In the end, she wasn't bad, but Hugh Grant was much better.

I think Mr Perlman would be quite a good choice, as it goes.  Or maybe Kurt Russell (as Dredd, that is, not the Doctor.  Then again... er, no).

Personally, I have little faith in these films getting made.  Surely potential backers will simply remember the Stallone movie and laugh?  Let's face it, if someone came to you and asked you to back their remake of Waterworld (different misadventure, same year), would you take them seriously?  Comic and console game sales aside, there can't be an obvious profit to be made.  Can there?

Give it another five-10 years to forget about the Stallone horror, and then we might have a viable franchise.

In the meantime, surely the real focus should be on other 2K properties, like Stronty Dog (I was going to refer to him as Mr Dog, but that's dog food - or should it be Caesar?  James Mason anyone?).

Trough, possibly talking drunken arse again
