Advice on getting rid of old 2000AD comics

Hi all, I'm considering the unthinkable and looking into maybe getting rid of my boxes of progs and Megazines, and wondered if anyone has any experience or advice.

I hate to do it but space is becoming an issue so the idea of replacing them with digital copies feels really appealing! For that reason I might keep the ones that aren't available digital, doesn't seem like the digital store necessarily has everything and I don't know if they've stopped adding old years to it now.

I'd thought about finding a shop that might buy them as a collection but I can't seem to find anywhere that does that in Glasgow, and as a collection it's a bit scattershot and there are a lot of annoying gaps where issues seem to have been lost, so I don't know how feasible it is to list them on ebay or the like.

Has anyone done similar and have any tips?

This is what I have -

Sad to say that they are worth pennies on the £ - and I have a groaning garage worth too!

The advice used to be 'donate them to a hospital' but I doubt that would even be allowed these days what with the swearing and occasional nudity we are treated to.

I doubt you'd get a buyer for the whole thing on eBay unless you go down the best offer / buyer picks up route. You could list them individually where collectors will buy the odd one to fill their own gaps but that would take forever and the time spent packing and posting would pay less than slave labour.

Leave random issues on buses and trains and spread the word. Apart from the ones with my letters in - keep them good - will be worth something when I get famous(er!).

Trooper McFad

If I had a man cave I would make a feature wall with various strips from various years of the prog - just waiting for ma boy to move out and it could come true 😀.
Or on the same lines if you have kids at primary/High school you could cover their jotters or binders with some appropriate stories. It might make them look cool amongst the marvel or Dc covers?
Citizens are Perps who haven't been caught ... yet!

Dandontdare

If you've got any cool 2nd hand shops like THIS* in your area, you could take them down there, but be prepared to be offered a pittance for the whole lot.

* I was  down there recently, grubbing about in dusty boxes of old comics shoved randomly under tables, mixed up with old copies of the NME and Knitting Monthly, and managed to find an old issue of Warrior and a couple of consecutive 1980s Eagles

#4
1208 is sold for between £10-£25

The Extreme Collection would probably sell on eBay for £40 as a collection

Sell the Megs at £30 per 2 years where you've got runs
Meg 4.1 to 4.18 is quite a nice set so again put them up for £30

All the others I'd just let go...

Thanks for the replies! I knew they probably wouldn't be worth a fortune or anything, but I am a bit surprised they're worth peanuts!

Like Buttonman says doing it piecemeal on Ebay sounds like more nuisance than it's worth, but I might take matty_ae's advice and list them as he described, guess there's no harm in trying in case someone bites.

For the rest I'll maybe just mail around work/facebook etc. and see if anyone fancies taking them off my hands, don't think I know any serious comic collectors but I do work with people who read them and who loved the Dredd movie so maybe there'll be people willing to take a box to give it a try or something. I do like the idea of scattering them around to spread the word though!

Thanks for the responses and advice, appreciate it!

Try listing 6 or 12 month bundles on eBay with a low starting price, although the problem with that will be all the small gaps.

Failing that, the Oxfam book and record shop on Victoria Road will gladly take them off your hands. Seen quite a few large collections in there over the years.

Thanks, that sounds like a good plan. I'll see how many complete years I have and see about maybe listing a couple and can see how it goes.

Failing that the charity shop will do! Never sure how happy they are to take that stuff, I took a load of US comics to Shelter a while ago and they seemed a bit unsure about whether to take them or not. They did in the end, but I've never seen any of them on sale in the shop so did wonder if I'd just dumped things on them they couldn't sell! The idea of them just getting binned would upset me, so if Oxfam are more comfortable with taking them that'll be a good option to keep in mind, thanks.

Tricky thing to unload eh?

I'm thinking of stopping my sub and getting rid of my "modern" collection of 2000AD and Megazine ( both unbroken 20 year runs).

Not quite figured out the best way to do it yet either......
