I'll take the one with the pineapples if you're getting rid of it.

A party ain't a party without tropical fruit on your shirt.

I'm afraid that's the one I'm being buried in.

(every time I drew someone in a hawaiian shirt I'd draw a pineapple design, and one day I found that shirt...)

Quote from: Lorenzo on 18 October, 2023, 09:34:52 PMYeah, I think I get how the collector's world works. It can attract some peculiarly selfish types. I remember reading about missing Doctor Who episode collectors. Allegedly, there are still some episodes out there in the hands of collectors that the BBC don't have. The owners won't let the Beeb take copies and they won't let anyone else see it either. Not even at special BFI screenings. If the owners start asking mega-bucks then it's never going to happen.

This is playing out in an ultra weird way with the son of the writer of the first couple of epsiodes withholding permission from the beeb from putting those episodes on iplayer...

(but I digress)

pictures, or it didn't happen!
The cupboard...

Apologies for how awkward these photos look, it's awkward to get in (my wife thought it'd be a good idea for the cupboard to hold some of my shirts, but there's more there than I reckoned with).
I genuinely can't remember all the artists editons I have.
John Paul Leon's Winer Men.
Brian Bolland Dredd
America's Best Comics (featuring a mix of stuff, but notably a lot of the Kevin Nowlan strips)
(not sure what's in the white one between those two, I cleverly started putting labels on them, then stupidly got my hand in the way of the photo - oh wait, it's the Mick McMahon Dredd)
Batman Dark Knight Returns
Watchmen
Zenith Apex
and I think, out of shot is the Chris Samnee Daredevil AND a Mike Mignola Hellboy shorts one.
I might have another, but I think that's it.

My wife and I think we've ordered the next McMahon one, but won't know until it turns up (this is the problem with these advance orders, it's not the first time I've accidentally bought a book twice because I ordered it so far in advance...)

Anyway that's my lot. A weirdly tall cupboard (with space for, I reckon, if I can find somewhere else to dump the shirts, about six more books, height is no object!)

Not to make anyone jealous, but I find the best way to read these things is to take one out of the cupboard, put it on a large table and pour over it pge by page with John McCrea.

How do you read yours?

Quote from: GoGilesGo on 15 October, 2023, 05:05:15 PMA question for all owners of Apex Editions.

Where do you keep them?

My finger has hovered over the buy button for the McMahon book and the Steve Dillon edition looks beautiful, but jee-zus they are big. I don't have a shelf nearly tall enough to store anything like that and all potential 'coffee table' real estate is taken up by the other half's books on CoCo Chanel, YSL and the like.

I have a weird tall built in cupboard in my studio that is both the housing for the combo boiler and hides the stairwell (so the bottom of it is raised to about knee height) inside that is a wooden unit that I ransacked from a table or something that I use to hold about 16-17 a3 blocks of paper. The cupboard is to the ceiling so very tall and also now houses a bunch of apex/artists edition. And there's room for a few more.

Lots of details here. But the upshot is a new weekly webcomic every strip written by a different writer (of some renown from the fields of scifi/fantasy/video/etc) every strip a one and done thing and all possible genres

And it's called Null Space. Starting on Friday.

Quote from: IndigoPrime on 26 September, 2023, 09:08:47 AMI'm not sure what point there would be in an Apex edition of artwork that wouldn't be substantially larger. Half the point of these editions is you get to see the original art, with page mark-up and such. If his art is as-is in the Meg and post-scanning everything is treated digitally, there would be few advantages, bar for people who want to see his art devoid of word balloons. (I'm not sure blowing up the art would be a good thing.)

The other half (and I'd argue much more than half since you can buy facsimile editions that are smaller than art size) is you can see where tippix / whiteout is used or blueline or pencils - it's seeing the hand of the artist. Though I appreciate Phil is a mad genius who may not even be pencilling for all we know.

EDITED TO ADD:
I mean I don't think Apex editions should be one size fits all, each book a bespoke reflection of the art and the artist, so maybe a same sized edition but with (as I suspect may exist) inked pages on tracing paper overlayed on the originals would be amazing (and how some of thge dark knight returns artists edition is like)
