Uncanny X-Men: From the Ashes (starts with issue 168), great stuff! What a run. Taking me years, but fun chipping away at this epic saga.

Also reading Archie Mega Man, Kelly Deadpool, Usagi Yojimbo, Mirage TMNT, lots of stuff to get back to.

Quote from: Doomlord66 on 17 April, 2024, 08:16:30 PMTowers, did you get all the Batman sub specials?
I'm gonna assume that's meant for me - yes I got most of them. I sold on the Master Race Premium as I wasn't interested. Such a shame that Eaglemoss went bust.

Yes it was, damn autocorrect.

I never got Shadow of the Bat v1 and didn't know about it till I saw it on Ebay. I would've liked it but its up for £35 now. In fact some of the books are up for crazy prices.
I've hardly read any of these unfortunately but I'm happy just to know they're there waiting for me when I get round to them.
I might sell the Batman Adventures books though as I'm not really interested in those (the completion in me was why I bought them).

For the record, when I said "Wagner rules" I meant like "Wagner is awesome", I'm American so our slang is sometimes different in contexts etc.  :D

Quote from: PsychoGoatee on 20 April, 2024, 11:56:37 PMI don't like it when these upstarts say stuff like that, I get you want to run wild, but Wagner rules. And he seems like such a cool guy too. Play nice!  :D

Nobody has a beef with John, but writers get understandably pissed off with the section of fandom that declares it's not 'canon' if Wagner didn't write it. To be fair, now that John writes so little Dredd they've largely fallen silent, but it was a definite thing back when he wrote Dredd stories on a more regular basis.

At say DC, so many writers enjoy writing stories that are "non-canon", say Elseworlds or self contained series etc with Batman. So it seems a bit silly either way that professional writers at 2000AD would be "pissed off" by some fans saying this. Plus like you say it's pretty rare to hear today anyway.

It's cool that we have different opinions, they don't like fans saying some stuff apparently. And I don't like writers saying some stuff, particularly them complaining about the situation with John Wagner. I think it's lame.

I know John is hands off like you're saying, my suggestion wasn't that he needs to rule, my suggestion is the writers complaining about how much respect the fans give John with Dredd is silly and wrongheaded. But I do also think Wagner is the best writer ever, so I don't like people finding some excuse to complain about him or his fans. Just a pet peeve, they have theirs I have mine. The circle of comic net opinions.

I actually got a referral to a Mental Health professional after trying to get an appointment with the doctor.  I really felt that I wasted her time, my time and the petrol it took me to drive there....

That might sound like a negative attitude, but I felt right from the moment I went in that she wasn't listening.  I first off got the line "I've been doing this 20 years, I know what I'm doing".  That didn't inspire confidence really as it smacked of being a bit arrogant to be honest.

I told her I couldn't focus on anything.  Examples being, I'd pick up a book, read a few pages and lay it to the side, look at my phone, the same after a few minutes, try and tidy up, same...and so on.  The answer..."You need to set up a daily structure".  Like...have you not been listening.  I mentioned that I was having sleep problems, money problems.  Told...get new hobbies, go to clubs, most of these things require...money.  When you're sitting for over a week sometimes with 16 pence in the bank...that's hard.

I came away more distressed and even angry.  I actually put feedback into the surgery that I felt it was no help whatsoever and that I wasn't listened to, I've never done that before.

Right now, the first volume is NOT in the UC, note. That might change. It wouldn't shock me if we got a surprise Starboard Stront before the collection is done. For now, though, that's not the case. (I bought the first Rebellion HC for that reason, but haven't bought the others. They look great, but there's only so much double dipping even I can justify.)

Batgirl Vol. 1: Beyond Burnside by Hope Larson, Rafael Albuquerque - This is from the 2017 Rebirth timeline, though I don't really keep up with DC anymore so don't know if this was any different before. It's also a little weak, Barbara's either a teenager or in her early twenties, comments that she used to be in a wheelchair but isn't any more, and then she's buggering about in Japan and there's way too much telling and not enough showing with a lot of the dialogue explaining things over and over again. It's a shame as I like the set up and the art's decent enough, but the poor script really lets it down. 2.5/5

The Authority: Revolution Book 1 and 2 by Ed Brubaker and Dustin Nguyen - I've read various Authority series in the past including the Ellis run, but this somehow passed me by. The first volume's not bad either as Brubaker explores what it'd be like if the team took control of The White House, but the second reads like Brubaker is Mark Millar's number one fan and jesus it's embarrassing. Obviously Brubaker's responsible for some classic series (Gotham Central being my favourite of his though I've only read the first Criminal trade) but the dialogue is full of sexual threats (including one involving skull ****ing that is deeply unpleasant) and I found myself wincing petty much constantly throughout the final three issues. 1.5/5

Suggestions / 2000AD app - double page sprea...
Last post by JohnCKirk - 21 April, 2024, 07:22:38 PM
I don't know if anyone's mentioned these before, but there are 2 minor annoyances about the 2000AD app. (These apply to the iOS version on 2 different iPads. I haven't tried the Android version.)

a) If the tablet is in portrait mode, I see each page 1 at a time. If the tablet is in landscape mode, I see 2 pages at a time. This applies regardless of whether they're part of a double page spread. By contrast, Marvel Unlimited and Comixology know which pages are in spreads, so if the app is in portrait mode then it will automatically show 2 pages joined together. That means that the pages will wind up at 25% of their original size, but it's a visual cue for me to rotate the tablet into landscape mode (bringing the spread to 50% of its original size). There have been a few times when I've been confused by 2000AD pages, until I read the next page and then realise that I only saw half of a conversation.

b) If an issue is longer than 60 pages, it displays a green screen. This isn't like the Windows "blue screen of death", i.e. it's just within that application. If I close and restart the app, I can resume reading from that point. For a Megazine, I only need to do this once. For a longer issue (e.g. Dredd Case Files), I have to do it multiple times.

CF 22 seems to be getting a reprint next year.  Perhaps because it contains work by John Burns?
will 23 and 24 also get reprinted as they are also out of stock?

That hairy bloke on the cover is either doing the splits or he walks very strangely indeed...

Either way, perhaps not the best pose to be trying to get out of the way of what's behind him.
