Film & TV / Re: Current TV Boxset Addiction

SANDMANUp to the last episode now, loving every minute. Surprised at how faithful it is to the comics*, and how certain changes have enhanced the plot.
They obviously have some rights issues regarding use of DC characters that are licensed elsewhere, but hell, the comics were never about superheroes anyway, were they?
Like 2012's DREDD, I was just hoping not to be disappointed. Instead, I'm genuinely thrilled.
Season 2 asap, PLEASE!

*if you see skin colour or sexuality before you see the actual character in question, the problem is'nt really with the casting, matey....

Will do! I'm at The Vinyl Tap - used to be called The Variety, behind the Adelphi. It's a bit different these days....

Hi Andy. Sorry to hear about your dad, mate.
If you've no other takers, I'm in Preston, and would be happy to scoot down and get em for the reading section of my pub - we've got a little comics and books section that's kinda popular, and I'm always sticking Star Trek on the big screen (with subtitles- all about rock music over here), so I reckon they'd go down a storm with my punters! Let me know if this is alright and I'll bob over over first chance I get...

General / Re: Tharg’s 2021 in Review - Best Dredd

1. Adios Rowdy Yates
2. Penitent Man
3. Now that's what I call justice.

Some good Dredd this year, but those really stood out for me.

Ooo I do like that Lawmaster design. It's more of a tank. Lovely.

Thanks for the responses lads - and I'll apologies for throwing my toys out of the pram a bit there. Didn't realise how negative I was being. Currently isolating upstairs at the pub with a touch of covid, so my mind may well be a bit overly sensitive at present. Not where I wanna be at the busiest time of year with an industry in tatters and nothing but gloomy clouds on the horizon...
Food for thought there, Indigo - cheers!

Anyway, expertly  course correcting this thread back onto its track - WHERE ARE THE LEGO PICTURES IN THIS YEARS XMAS NERVE CENTRE? Have I managed to miss something somewhere along the line this year?

Or, you know, instead of all laying into me for posting an opinion, give a touch of respect for the fact that I love the Prog enough to devote a corner of my pub to it, and continue to promote both current Prog and Meg to customers alongside classics.
Jesus. Whatever you think of the Prog, you can't deny that it's lost it's punk rock feel that it originally had.
Fucking hell, am I supposed to check whether I'm allowed to say something before I post in future?
Thanks for nothing. Nothing but bullying. Shocked at this kind of behaviour here. Certainly doesn't make me feel welcome round here.

I stopped collecting this regularly at issue 80, but I really want this Stront one! Can anyone recommend the best place to order one from on the net? Forbidden Planet?

Prog / Re: Prog 2262 – The Spirit of Xmas Future

It's a mixed bag for me this Christmas.
Dredd to me just seemed a bit of a gimmick, like something you'd get in a free comic book day Prog.
Dead world is what it is. Horrible, but a decent read.
Kingmaker may just be what's convinced me to keep reading the Prog after 45 years.
Dexter keeps going, and it's enjoyable.
The Order I find to be absolute bollox. Lovely art, but by God I find this tedious.
Tales from mega city was a good little vignette with a fine twist.
The Out continues to be the best thing in the Prog.
Proteus Vex was just talking. LOTS of talking. Where's the thrill power?

I've got to admit, the prog's been finally losing me lately, I long for the days of actual character development (in Dredd especially, tight boots to closing stadium gates), but it just seems to be plodding along. We have a dedicated 2000ad corner of the pub I run, and one of the customers brought a couple of progs over to me recently, including a regened one, and muttered "see this"? - pointing to Prog 346 - "this was subversive when we were kids. It was OURS. This is just nothing"... (pointing to the last regened and 2257). Pretty much what I find, too...

Anyway, I'm derailing the thread... the previews of things to come look promising, and so long as Tharg can keep things like Kingmaker and The Out in the Prog, he'll still have my three quid every week. Just about.

It's the
undercover judge
that we see in the story taking the long walk - he's reminiscing about his first case

The Wildhearts - 21st Love Songs for me. Still living it three months later.
Agree on the Maiden album with Boots - the vinyl is a thing of beauty, but when I try and listen to it in its entirety, I keep falling asleep. Side 1 is mint, though

Anyone ever see a trailer for an upcoming film and think they've figured out the ending from it?
Post your possible spoilers here!
But obviously, spoiler tag 'em, just in case you get a bit too close....

I reckon I've just figured out the new Spider Man No Way Home ending, from a shufty at the new trailer:
Doctor Strange tells Peter that all these villains are arriving in their reality thanks to the spell gone wrong, that they're all supposed to die at the hands of Spider-Man in their respective realities, and that it looks like Peter has to make that happen in order to save their world, right?
Well, who else inadvertently dies thanks to Spider-Man, that we haven't seen in the MCU Spidey movies yet?
UNCLE BEN.
I reckon that an alternate universe Uncle Ben will turn up in this one, and at the film's climax, in order to save his reality, Peter has to let Uncle Ben die...again.
Could be I'm overthinking this as usual - 40 odd years of the Prog will do that to you!

Anyone got any others?

(Apologies to mods if this is breaking any forum rules).

Pretty much a perfect prog for me - great tribute to Bolt in the nerve centre, ace shoutout in the Damage Report, loads of promising new stories beginning, and a BELTING Dredd that gives a knowing nod to the entire history of the strip. Happy Squaxx over here in Preston.
Cheers, Tharg.
