Anyone ever see a trailer for an upcoming film and think they've figured out the ending from it?
Post your possible spoilers here!
But obviously, spoiler tag 'em, just in case you get a bit too close....

I reckon I've just figured out the new Spider Man No Way Home ending, from a shufty at the new trailer:
Doctor Strange tells Peter that all these villains are arriving in their reality thanks to the spell gone wrong, that they're all supposed to die at the hands of Spider-Man in their respective realities, and that it looks like Peter has to make that happen in order to save their world, right?
Well, who else inadvertently dies thanks to Spider-Man, that we haven't seen in the MCU Spidey movies yet?
UNCLE BEN.
I reckon that an alternate universe Uncle Ben will turn up in this one, and at the film's climax, in order to save his reality, Peter has to let Uncle Ben die...again.
Could be I'm overthinking this as usual - 40 odd years of the Prog will do that to you!

Anyone got any others?

(Apologies to mods if this is breaking any forum rules).

Prog / Quick Question (Oh, the guilt....!)
07 April, 2020, 11:37:16 AM
So here I am, all locked down in my own pub and frankly having a whale of a time catching up on writing, reading and movies, but!
My local comic shop has closed for the duration, owing to Diamond Distribution stopping.
I'm obviously gonna give him all my support, so I've gone for a digital subscription for the Prog, the idea being that my local shop can supply me with the physical progs when This All Blows Over etc. I'm happy to pay twice.

Questions- how does it all work? I've paid for the month ahead and got my free back progs up to 1275 - when will I see 1276? Does it land in my inbox or do I need to check the store?
What about the Ultimate Collection? Am I best trying to source it elsewhere or waiting? Don't want to miss any. So far I'm missing Ampney Crusis.

Cheers for any help, hope you're all safe.

Website and Forum / Shop Query

Has anybody bought a T-shirt from the online shop, and how long did it take to reach you?
My sister bought me the Dredd "Crime" McMahon T-shirt last Sunday from the online shop for my birthday (Wednesday just gone), but she's saying she's not even had a dispatch notice yet. The money was take out of her account straight away. How long do these things take?

Books & Comics / Wolverine Comics
15 July, 2017, 01:24:54 AM
...just sorting through some old comics to free up some space and got sucked into cracking open a bottle and having a Wolverine marathon.

Thing is, for such an iconic character, there's not really THAT many truly great Wolverine comics, are there? Seems to me that the character's arcs just keep being watered down in favour of keeping the same old same old going, ad infinitum, throughout his history. What do others think?

So for me, the truly great ones would be:
Weapon X (the original Barry Windsor Smith story)
The Claremont/Miller Wolverine (the Japanese one)
The first Origin series - vague, kind of inconsequential, but gorgeous throughout
The Old Man Logan arc
The first 20 or so issues of volume 3, where he's hunting down gangsters and people traffickers for no other reason than he's genuinely a flawed hero with a leather jacket & a motorbike.
Issue 32 of the same volume, where he's a prisoner in a WWII concentration camp, driving the nazis insane, one at a time
Obviously, the John Byrne & Claremont issues of Uncanny Xmen (First Alpha Flight, Days Of Future Past, etc)
...beyond that, I'm struggling to think of any ones where the character isn't just fighting Sabretooth or the Baddie Of The Month, or dealing with increasingly convoluted (and frankly bollocks) plot lines about his memories being tampered with.
Anyone got any more GREAT Wolverines stories or arcs that I've missed?

Ho - kay, now this post will likely appeal mainly to those squaxx who, like me, are in the forties, have read the prog since we were kids, and are getting on with raising young squaxx of their own.
And look, I'm not trying to blow my own trumpet or get you to love me or anything, but tonight my 10 year old daughter has literally blown me away. I mean, flabbergasted me in the most wonderful manner. And it's like this...
You see, I'm a musician and a writer. Never had anything published, beyond a couple of short stories and poems in various underground magazines. I write songs, hop into a studio, record 'em, then bugger off on the road in my wee camper van (still can't beleive I had a whole conversation with John Wagner last year about camper vans and neither of us once referred to them as Mo Pads) and play gigs and get rewarded with beer and sheckles. I pop my books on amazon and while I'm far from rich, between this and working three days a week down my local, I do alright.
So tonight, me and Small Rocka pop down the local (I need a quick word with my Gaffer), have a J20 or two and a couple of pints of Guinness (guess who had what), and then...
..Small Rocka suddenly began to outline an idea she'd had about a House Cat called Jasper. I told her that that may be a bit derivative, so Jasper became a superhero cat called CATMAN. And his owner was The Librarian. And The Librarian was a SUPERVILLAIN. So Catman spends his nights secretly undoing all the supervillain's nefarious plans. And Catman's greatest enemy is Sharpclaw, who's owned by the world's greatest Superhero, and who spends HIS nights undoing all the superhero's good deeds.

Fast forward half an hour, we're back home from the pub, Mini Rocka is on the laptop typing as fast as her fingers will let her, while I'm pacing the floor with a cigar in one hand and a glass of red in the other, firing out ideas, and together we're coming up with the outline for a seven book series that's pulling in everything from Empire Strikes Back to the Killing Joke, via Dredd and half of the prog's output of the last forty years.

And that's when I realise. THIS IS WHAT I DO. WITH MY MATES IN THE BAND. WITH ANYONE I WRITE WITH. I pace the floor, drink and we fire out ideas at one another.

Only now, I'm doing it with my 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. And she's firing out the ideas!

My God, has anyone else had this feeling? It's breathtaking. I'm a single Daddy, and all of a sudden, this tiny thing that was the length of my forearm is now upstairs at midnight scribbling frantically in a notebook while I tap at the laptop down here trying to figure out why Microsoft Word will no longer let me edit things I download from Onedrive (so we can both work on the novel, independently).

It's an amazing feeling. Time was, I'd have been hollered at for being up at midnight at age 10, but hell, she's fired up, scribbling frantically and coming up with some DAMN GREAT STUFF. You can't cut that shit off, you've gotta feed it.

So, has anyone else got any similar stories? I swear to God, once the first three books of Catman's amazing adventures are in the can, I'll option 'em to Tharg.

Cheers for listening. I really hope this makes sense.

The BBC are making an original era - set version of War Of The Worlds. So long as no - one called Moffat's involved, I'm over the moon.

General / Kingdom - is there an ending?
11 December, 2016, 12:44:56 AM
Sure I may have asked this before in these parts, but I'm sure I read a couple of years ago that Kingdom has an end in sight. Don't get me wrong, I bloody love Kingdom, just had a big reread of all of it, but I'd love to know how it all ends. Sure I read that Mr Abnett has a definitive ending in mind. Does anyone know anything further?

General / Prog 2000
25 February, 2015, 02:03:58 PM
Remember the old "what will 2000ad be called in the year 2000" debate? Well I've just worked out that prog 2000 is due to land on 16th Sept 2016. Only we've already had prog 2000, back in 1999, haven't we? As well as progs 2001 - 2015. So after prog 1999, what's the next one gonna be?

Books & Comics / Free Book!
28 August, 2014, 11:00:56 AM
Shameless plug from the House of Rocka:

My first novel, Cliche is now available for FREE from kindle, if you're into dark - as - toast noirisms.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Clich%C3%A9-Sean-Keefe-ebook/dp/B00KCNP596/ref=la_B00HTQT8GK_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1409219138&sr=1-1

I'm working hell for leather to find a publisher for it, but while I happily enjoy thickening my skin and collecting rejection slips from literary agents, I figured I'd pop it up for free and see if any squaxx enjoy it. It's kinda something you'd encounter in the prog, if Tharg felt like annoying God.

Cheers.

Creative Common / Kindle e-books
16 May, 2014, 10:22:17 AM
...Anyone got any experience with these? I wrote a novel, and knowing bugger all about how to get it published as a physical book, I've just put it up here as a FREE Kindle e-book while I set about badgering Literary agents to see if I can find a publisher. You can keep it free for 5 days, I gather, then the price kicks in. I figure 1.99's a pretty fair price for a debut author.

Anyone done anything similar? Any good or bad experiences with it?

If you fancy a shufty, here it is. In the first thirty pages, he smokes five packs of Marlboro, upsets a priest, rescues a dragon that's not a dragon, drinks his own body weight in whiskey, gets his head kicked in, meets a girl... and that's not even mentioning the main plot.

Off Topic / Spare some change, Mister? Oh, go on....
15 September, 2013, 02:00:17 PM
Now then, greetings all. You might remember that earlier this year I had a letter printed in the Prog banging on about the list of 40 things I've been doing before hitting my 40th birthday. All of these verge on the ridiculous, and I've been doing 'em to raise some dosh for Macmillan Cancer Care, as I lost my Gran and my Auntie to it over the last two years.

Well, last week, I set off from Edinburgh on my 30 - year - old racing bike ("Trigger") armed with nothing but a guitar on my back, tent, and change of clothes, and cycled 160 odd miles down to Tewitfield, Lancashire, where I hopped into a pedalo with said items and spent 3 day pedaloing the 42 mile length of the Lancaster canal. Along the way, I stopped off to play gigs at every possible place, and all to raise a bit of dosh to poke a finger in the eye of cancer.

Which means that quite proudly, I am now not only the first person to ever navigate the Lancaster canal by pedalo, I'm also the only person to do a tour in one!

So, look, I don't think The Mighty Tharg will object too much if I ask you bung any spare dosh you might have at my just giving page, here: https://www.justgiving.com/Sean-Keefe

Next up, I'm due to appear on Countdown in the New Year (passed the audition), and I'm gonna pick one person that's donated on that page at random to come into the Green Room with me! So you never know, if you've ever wanted to meet Rachel Riley....

Cheers all, I'm off to the review thread to post my opinion on the stack of progs I've just got through. My whole story you can see here...

Peace out and all that,

Sean

Other Reviews / IDW's Rogue Trooper....
23 July, 2013, 11:43:09 AM
...anyone else seen this? I'm surprised they didn't go with Stronty for their second one, although Rogue's a much more concise story I suppose, more ideal for the American market.

Gotta be better than their ongoing Dredd one, I think...

General / Feeling the prog love!
28 March, 2013, 12:24:56 PM
Thanks to the Mighty Tharg helping me out in this week's prog, I thought it was about time I put some love for the Prog on my blog. It's all too brief a space to sum up 30 years of Prog love, but I gave it a try!

Anyone else got similar experiences?

Classifieds / Largeness Pimpageness
06 March, 2013, 01:39:55 PM
Hey y'all, I'm having clear out in order to raise some funds - need a new carb on my camper van.

Got a load of old Megs and one or two specials I'm gettin' rid of, plus a load of Marvel US (Ultimates, Spidey, X- men etc), but I'd rather run 'em past fellow Squaxx before I being the long process of bangin' 'em up on ebay.

These babies are all in varying states of condition - if you're looking for mint copies to complete collections, then these are probably not for you. They have been read often, stored safely, and brought a lot of joy to our household over the years. Some are in very good nick, others a bit run - down.

They are:

Judge Dredd Megazine - Vol 1, #1, Vol 2 #1 - 45, 47 - 59, 62 - 69, 73, 275, 286 - 294

Best Of 2000ad Monthly - 2, 12, 16, 17, 20, 23- 26, 29 - 30, 32 - 38, 51

Strontium Dog (Quality series late 80's) 1 - 3, 7 - 16

Crisis 1 & 2

..plus the Dredd and 2000ad specials you can see in the pics below.

PM or give me a shout if you're interested, tell me what you reckon's a fair price, we'll thrash something out. I'm not especially interested in grabbing loads of dosh for 'em, would rather see they went to a good home.

If you're around the Preston area, feel free to drop by for a brew and a shufty at 'em.

Cheers kidz, Peace

Help! / Hive Mind Techie Folk - assistance needed!
01 January, 2013, 04:54:34 PM
Just a quick one to all you techs out there -

I've recently created this page:

https://www.facebook.com/40ThingsToDoBeforeIm40

...to raise some money, get drunk, provoke shits and giggles etc and hopefully do a bit of good for charidee, mate. I'd like to record regular video message on my webcam attached to my laptop and post them as regular updates as I move through the list.

Trouble is, I can take pictures on said webcam, but can't seem to find a 'record video' option. I've a Packard Bell Easynote laptop running windows 7 with a cheapie webcam plugged in the back via usb.

Any Tech Judges out there know of such things?

General / Snapshot
03 November, 2012, 10:13:54 PM
...not the Meg strip, which I've not read (though have had a glance through thanks to fellow Squaxx's copies), but the strange plot device from a couple of years ago (just after Tour Of Duty) that Dredd fought for in the ruins of Mega City 2.

If memory serves me right, this was a kind of nanobot type thingy that took a 'snapshot' of it's subject, then restored that subject to that exact state, even if they got blown to bits or something.

Now, what happened to this thingy? Wouldn't it have made sense to use it before Day Of Chaos, just in case such an event might happen?

Apologies if this has been answered in the Meg, I'm not a Meg reader, just an avid swallower of Progs.

General / Irreverant places you've had the prog
01 September, 2012, 03:10:37 AM
Tonight, me and the boys played a nice, low - key, birthday type do for a mate of ours who's returned from Australia for a couple of weeks. We drank beer, danced with girls, and rocked the hell out.
... And when we were winding down, I took the picture below, which got me thinking:
No doubt this has been done before, but where's the most "out there" place you've photgraphed this week's Prog?
