Here is a factual detailed description of this second volume. The stories inside were my first encounter with the ABC Warriors (translated in French the late eighties by Zenda editions), and it was a blast (funny, vicious, entertaining)!

Love the spines-porn picture. Nice archiving of what's included / missing. Thanks for your work!
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.

I really loved the look and feel of the first book, despite not being a massive fan of ABC Warriors, and it's easy to see why Rebellion's making this transition to hardback for many of its titles. (The repro, though, seemed really weird for the Black Hole book, which was the sole reason my 25 quid stayed in my wallet. It looked like a lot of the detail had been nuked during whatever clean-up process was used on the art.) Still somewhat tempted anyway. *sigh*

I read that before in a review somewhere, but I didn't really find it was the case (not in my copy, at least).

If you shop around a wee bit online, it's fairly easy to find these volumes for aprox. £17 rather than £25, which actually works out cheaper than the two equivalent softbacks per hardback would have cost!

I already have those. I was sorely tempted to do something I *very* rarely do and "upgrade", purely on the quality of the book. But the spindly and washed-out Black Hole art (which is some of my favourite 2000 AD art of all time) just made me think: nope. It took a while to reach that nope, though...

On the plus side, while doddering about Forbidden Planet, I found a lot of the other stuff has come across very well. Trifecta looked terrific, and, fortunately, the new Devlin Waugh print is as good as can be expected when it comes to that era's Sean Phillips output (on a par with the Mandarin book and leagues ahead of the DC/Rebellion one).

The reproduction of the first 2 books was great, but compared to the titan books SMS and Bisley's art really suffered. A lot of the details was lost in my version as if the titan ones had been photocopied. That was really disappointing as it is some of the best 2000ad art and the actual book is lovely.

Mek Files 2 arrived today and the reproduction is spot on - a gorgeous book!

It's a joke. I was joking.
