General / Re: Heroin Skateboards & The Dark Judges

I'm not offended by the brand, I'm not offended by the Velvet Underground song of the same name either.

I had a Kryptonics Denny Riordon deck, with the guys head being pulled off & his brains were little men coming out which I thought was cool and still do.

I think these boards look great as I love 2000ad & the Dark Judges.

But if I dis-engage my addled brain and concentrate on how they make me feel, it's unfortunately rather uncomfortable. There is something just not right about it that causes me to question the 2000ad brand and what I hold dear about it, when I see it next to the word Herion - whatever the circumstances.

We are all alowed to have our own opinions on drugs, for whatever and for some very personal reasons and I think people should be respected for that, rather than questioning peoples sensitivities around them.

Happy skating everyone...

...oh and anyone that wants a few snippets of what's to come and a whole heap of justifiable praise for the Flint droid, this might be worth a scan...

Blow it to hell, contender for panel of the year in my eyes

Dredd's defo on one in that panel, much frustration and a lot of pain in that overt sentiment - great stuff!

General / Re: Dredd vs Death - bodycount

Dredd kills people in the name of Justice and the law that he up holds, which in his eyes makes that 'Just' tough and fair. I suppose that he racks up the bodycount as part of this process makes him by definition a killer & taker of human life... but in a justified way... or is it?

Death and his squad see all life as injust and therefore see their creed as a way of bringing justice to the living by killing everyone. They see that as a fair and just cause.

Take that to it's end point where they only survive and they have done their work of bringing justice to the living & everyones dead. What really do they stand for any longer? Justice? It can't really exist.

I'm not sure if the ends and the means have always justified themselves in Dredds decisions, but I'd like to think he's a bit more balanced in his work than Death is?

Postie came by today & no 2000AD... it's not the first time in 2015.

It sounds quite anal if the prog doesn't land on a Saturday, but it's the only thing that I still look forward to getting in the post like an expecting young lad... hmm better come Tuesday!

Just finished Philip.K Dick's The Man in The High Castle

Great read & thoroughly recommend it to anyone who likes the alternative.

About to start Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5 which I'm looking forward to. Once I manage to finally finish The Loosers once and for all!

I'll buck the trend with a bit of love for Bob Byrne and his Twisted Tales.

A perfect fit for 2000AD in my opinion.

I agree, 2000AD has always been diverse and divisive & long may it continue. I love the Twisted Tales. The art is beautiful in it's world building way and truly mesmerisingly horrific in others. Put it next to the Geeks & I know which I would rather see, but that's taste and thankfully, we are all accounted for it...

Mr Austin and a photo of Ms Shilleto, maybe?

Aha! I knew I hadn't made this one up...

I remember seeing this in a Jazz mag in '91 & they had a laugh at the artists 'good taste' in models to crib from... It also explained why it looked nothing LIKE Anderson on the story inside and the artists preffered reading material at the time...

Not that this isn't great news but does it mean Absalom has been set back a few weeks?

Looks that way sadly... Grey Area seems to have filled the spot for now.

Strange too the proposed Stronty Dog story seems to have changed too?

First the cover tricked me something silly. I could have sworn it was similar to one by Brian Williamson (of all people) - it doesn't. A trawl through Barney led me to Prog 642 by Kev Hopgood (http://www.2000ad.org/functions/cover.php?choice=642&Comic=2000ad ) which it has a passing resemblence to, in that its Dredd on his lawmaster a leapin'.
...anyway...

As soon as I saw the cover I thought Kev Hopgood and that Image of Dredd, purely because he never did much Dredd stuff. Still they are both great covers and it's the most sincerest form of flattery ey?

Two weeks of Dredd being back on the streets before he heads back into space for Enceladus seems wrong to me as well but any reason to get Henry Flint back in the prog seems right to me so it'll balance out.looking forward to Absolom and hoping Strontium dog will clear up the end of life and death.

Good Call.

The merger of the two Dredd tales is indeed going to be an interesting one, but I doubt it's going to be any bother, there have been plenty of stories where the seams & stitching have been jarring. I always liked the follow up stories when they could be worked (Oz/Hitman etc) but these days it's horses for courses with the different writers I guess.

I'm on tenterhooks for Absalom, TT's art is some of the best in the prog IMHO.
