Sad to hear that Jim has passed away, one of my favourite 2000ad artists, especially on Skizz and New Statesmen RIP

General / 1985 covers
15 June, 2016, 09:01:31 PM
Another lovely year as detailed in the latest 2000ad thrill mail.

Better than even 1981 for me, possibly because I was 14 at the time and properly into 2000ad. Lots of lovely cliff Robinson and Glenn Fabry covers but my favourite is 440. A great Cam Kennedy cover with two tonne tony! Sums up the humour and pathos of 2000ad and just sticks with you. Fat chance!

Prog / Prog 1984 - Orwell that ends well?
04 June, 2016, 01:19:54 PM
Great prog overall

Cover: grim but effective, appropriate for 1984
Dredd: predictable perhaps but effective and dramatic
Slaine: best episode so far, as beautiful as ever. Adventures of the boy Slaine would suit me fine
Brink: explodes into life, you know a story is working when you worry for a character
Black shuck: just started so I'm waiting seeing
Grey area: fun and enjoyable if lacking in emotional weight for me

LOVE MY SUB!

General / 1981 covers
18 May, 2016, 06:23:53 PM
Just seenthe covers comp in the thrill mail. Wow what a year 1981 was. Is this the strongest year ever? Nemesis, rogue trooper, meltdown man, return to Armageddon, strontium dog origin story, Alan moores first story, judge death lives! What a line up. Some of my fave covers ever as well but the best for me is

I assume we've done a retro cover vote before? :)

Prog / Prog 1975 - top cop for the chop?
02 April, 2016, 11:21:03 AM
Cover: well it's a bit on the nose. Interesting given the conversation elsewhere about 2000ad being rated 18! That cover will do that.
Dreaded: bubbling along nicely, more insight into city administration. That gets my juices flowing - seriously! Would nice for the big Meg to make some progress rather than just surviving
3rillers: skimmed, just never caught my imagination
Survival geeks: really enjoying this, nice buffy vibe and the art is growing on me. Love the observing rats in the foreground
Tainted: a story is taking shape that mitigates the fatalism, more about a character resisting evil than the end we already know.
Aquila: enjoyed this more this week, more about the mythology and less silly and tasteless blood and guts. A better balance for me.
Future thrills: black shuck - wots that then?

I'm sure this has been asked but I can't find a search function: why do iPad subscribers have to wait to Wednesday but print subs seem to arrive on sat?

General / iPad version
22 November, 2012, 02:40:14 PM
Having got an ipad recently I took the plunge an bought this weeks prog via the app. I must say in some ways it looks more beautiful! Even the abc warriors drudge didn't look too bad. I still have that sense of not having actually got it yet, the need for paper in hand still feels quite strong! Still saved 36p! Has anyone gone the full hog and only got the prog in an iPad stylee?

General / Finn
21 October, 2012, 02:51:19 PM
Really enjoyed the finn freebie with the megazine, partly because it is set in my home town and the detail even in simple things like the solicitors office being on north hill, the budo graffiti, union street stuff etc. The only other time Plymouth has been in was as a smouldering nuclear ruin in the origin of strontium dog! Made me proud ;)
Anyway has finn be republished as i couldn't find anything on amazon?

General / pre- Bisley Slaine
21 October, 2012, 11:22:26 AM
I'm looking to collect pre-bisley slaine but read a review of slaine: warriors dawn which argues that the reproduction is very poor. As i've said elsewhere the art is the most important thing to me. Is this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Slaine-Warriors-Dawn-Pat-Mills/dp/1905437617/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1350814613&sr=8-4 the best version available? start recollecting the progs? your advice is desired!
