It is comic Judge Dredd though isn't it? Not 2012 Dredd as with the knockoff.

I assume Comic sells ok but can it be directly compared with sales of those knockoffs? I would assume it is a bigger market for the movie figures in general... ?

Death is probably a good figure as non comic readers seem to recognise Death even if they only know the Stallone movie. From my experience of nonscrots.

I'd expect movie to sell more, although without a sequel interest is likely to tail off.

Death/the Dark Judges is probably secondary to comic Dredd so it's not a bad choice, particularly with Dark Justice coming out.

Just a bit weird that they haven't done a Dredd already.

Colin YNWA

Maybe that's kinda the point (not that I know ANYTHING about these things) but if you know Dredd will sell cos he's Dredd maybe you need to test whether something that isn't Dredd can be supported.

So you go close to Dredd so you don't loose on the experiment but learn a bit about selling non-Dredd...

... that could all be poppycock of course.

Steve Green

It seems like it would be better to sell Dredd first, (bearing in mind there was a film coming out), rather than trying to sell niche 1/6 figures like Tharg, Mongrol, Ro-jaws, and then 1/12 versions of the same etc before relenting and doing something connected to Dredd.

Bat King

They seem dedicated to what they do but not very business savvy - they let the license lapse and Rebellion had to remind them...

I have a mate who collects Hot Toy's 12'' figures (the guy that bought a Dredd lid at TB) I've tipped him off to these and Dredd, Anderson & Dark Judges are what he seems to be interested in. Movie Dredd would really get him excited.

Well, looking at their other licenses (Halo, Marvel for example) I'm not sure if it's a business savvy thing so much as having higher profile IP licensed.

Ashley Wood does keep saying how close to his heart the 2000AD stuff is... but I agree, there's definitely bigger and potentially more profitable licenses that 3A have, and Ashley is a co-owner... so there's other folks to keep happy in the mix...

In conversation with him, he does seem very committed to getting these figures out - a passion project - I guess it just isn't quite enough to get the stuff over the line in a timely manner...  Oh well, every day is another day closer to some form of confirmation of news!

Bat King

So without the dodgy 2012 rip off 3A might have gone for the movie license with it being potentially a more profitable IP?

Perhaps if they had grabbed that it would help their comic Judge Dredd sales.

I'd be kicking myself over that one if I were them, that's for sure.

Of course we don't know if the license was offered or if it was realistically viable.

Not too much licensed 2012 goods out there...

Or if they ever sought it at all. The focus of 3A, at least in press releases and what they have released so far, seems to be based purely on classic 2000AD iterations and the reason why the figures exist in the first place.

True... referencing the first 500 progs, specifically.

Guess that means no Bad Company or Bisley-style Joe Pineapples then...!

Misanthrope

They could have released figures of the supporting judge characters first if they wanted to test the waters for a Dredd figure.

I think Judge Anderson would have sold well.
Did you know Christ was a werewolf?

Mongrol and Ro-Jaws were offered with 'alt' colours called 'black hole versions' - so prime Bisley.

That said I doubt we'll see a Defoe, Dante or Stickleback anytime.
If I'd known it was harmless I would have killed it myself.
