Thanks for the kind words everyone! I knew I wanted to do a spoof Button Man trailer and I hummed and harred how to make it funny (remember comedy is subjective folks!) I can't believe it took me so long to realise I could just tell a load of Doctor Doctor jokes!

Well done to Steve Green too! A beautiful image!

Oh Pete, Pete, Pete, you made me do an embarrassing guffaw on the tram when I got to the doctor's first "hnnnnnng" (bonus points this year for not singing!)

Comrade Green is sentenced to 20 years in the iso-gulag for referencing a ideologically unsound individual.

Ming - took me a moment to get it, but it's awesome (lovely effect on the edge of the snow)

Eamonn - I'll be sticking in a bid, some choice items there, and well done for your tireless fundraising throughout the year.

Pete - You had me going for way too long with this!

Steve - This is great, though I think based on a storyline I haven't read yet!

Ming - Excellent Lego work as always, I've never seen a lego snow angel and this is inspired!

Eamonn - A lovely tribute well done! Also mighty chuffed that I'm batting cleanup for it :D

Genuine comments now.

Loved it, Pete. Well played.  I was utterly convinced.

Steve: great stuff.  Thought it was one of Mike Carroll's photomanips for a second, which is a good thing.

The snow angel was really, really nice and reminded me of the Lego Movie.

Eamonn- dying to listen to the Carlos tribute and kicking myself for not sending something.  I'll definitely enter the raffle too.

Saw the image but was mostly confused. I'll attempt to describe it from memory for those that missed it:

Two mostly naked men (one doing a full frontal, the other with union jack y-fronts) are standing atop a pile of (what some might consider) the weaker historical thrills of yesteryear. One of the men is carrying a large assault rifle, that is probably a toy, and he has a goatee. The one with his willie on show has a tattoo on his belly that says something like "Only Dredd can judge me!"

They seem to be celebrating. At their feet, face-down on the pile is what might be a dead (or unconscious?) Tharg, who's doing an enormous gaseous fart. Within the clouds of the fart, rising up between the men, are some of the key, generally understood to be weaker thrills of yesteryear - but not the same ones that are in the pile below.

I managed to get an eyeful of Frank's advent image (and now it's burned onto my retinas).  I suspect the Greggs product placement may have been the cause of its removal; Pete's generously proportioned steak bake might just have been too much for some to swallow, I fear.

Sterling efforts all round so far!

It was an odd choice of festive image - the cock was a bit gratuitous. What I was confused by was the intent and the context - I gather from other posts that one of the people represented is another boarder - but why's he naked and dancing around a dead Tharg (if, indeed, that's who that's supposed to be on the ground - and if they're dead at all, as opposed to asleep and farting).  Like I said further up: mostly the image confused me.

I would've thought a cock-warning would be sufficient, but then it's not my message-board and I haven't read the rules of engagement.

Merry Christmas gents, looking great so far!

Pete – Button Man! Haha this is awesome...the jokes just didn't stop, it got funnier as it went. Great effort, I appreciate the good laugh.

Steve – Nice graphics, looks professional!

Ming – Great use of your Lego characters, I was scrolling down to see the image and was genuinely surprised to see the squished Blackblood, great stuff!

Eamonn – As always, I enjoy your podcast...playing catchup on the last few episodes right now. I also listened to Judgement Day yesterday and Meltdown Man today. I appreciate your continued effort, great podcast.

Monarch – nice intro to 2000AD video

Colin – Nice poem, proper homage to Pete!

Frank – I saw...THAT...before it disappeared...didn't get it though

Abelardsnazz – Proper creepy Christmas horror, nicely done!

Intrigued (and, with hindsight, stupidly), I went to that Facebook page and read the artist's interpretation of their own work: which was that Tharg's been murdered and then sodomized. From the responses, it seems like a bunch of middle-aged guys obsessively talking about their willies and laughing about anal rape. Sad. Makes me want to retreat from the Internet. And never go to a fan convention.

Naturally left in the shadows by the usual incredible festive work by Pete, Ming, Eamonn, Colin etc, but I thought Frank's ooo-errr-missus entry was superb, hilarious and wildly inappropriate for the calendar. Tharg's minions were right to remove it, but probably wrong to ban the man (unless there's BTS aggro I don't know anything about - I can't be arsed doing my research).

I know Frank is an unrepentant shit-stirrer, and many have good reason to object to his antics, but I think he brings a hell of a lot to this forum and has always been a good virtuafriend to me. Corporate platform or not we can't go on forever excluding anyone that pushes it too far. Especially at Christmas!

As to everyone else, you mad geniuses you! I single out Eamonn in particular: you utter dastard, you made me cry in front of my children. If there were more people like you in this world, what a place it would be.

Amazing Fink'n'Ratty action from Gail, with bonus Preacher Cain. Zarjaz! Darren's Mk VIII is properly imposing and yet approachable - no wonder the citizens prefer them to human judges.

Had to listen to Eamonn's Carlos podcast again on the way to work - really a fantastic achievement. Great to hear the Shark get the props he deserves for letting the King know how beloved he truly was while he'd was still with us. That's the bit that choked me up. Again.

I do like the idea that the nobody from the first book of Halo Jones ends up like a Silver Dolphin Surfer of the spaceways.

(I did do a double take but thought they might be particulates swirling in the galactic gulfstream to make it look snowy and Christmassy. Then decided they were just gigantic rasps).

It's been mentioned that one future/proposed book for Halo would feature her as a space pirate. So I just riffed on that idea.
Dolphin masthead...obvious reference to her time on the hoop and her membership of the rikkitikki...uhm, that club.
Space nipples...bit of fun on my part. Retro '50s space suit with valve/knobs where nipples would be....lol

Yep, it's awesome. Has she ever drawn Sláine? Her scratchy McMahon style seems tailor-made for the big barbarian bastard.

Also that lovely Hershey pic reminds me of the Befana, the witch, with whom I've been internet-researching obsessively today for some reason, that does Santa Claus' job for kids in Italy.

A quick bit of info regarding the last few days of Advent Calendar shenanigans. The lovely Gail Nedry (my old school mates daughter) submitted a few pieces after some badgering from myself. I was amazed when Gail sat down and in the space of just a few hours cranked out the 3 pieces for this year's calendar.
I mean, really, really fast.
I had a rough 6 page strip I had planned for the lovely boys at FQP/Zarjaz. But it didn't really fit for them as it was more of a gimmick piece, inspired by Tharg's thrill power Death Match from prog 2000, where various 2000ad characters were pitted in battle.
I had just finished Hershey/Anderson and Halo Jones for this year's Advent calendar and was going to do a Rogue Trooper piece for my third slot.  But damn that Gail Nedry. She had me wondering if I could get my 6 page SHAKAR vs JOE PINEAPPLES done by 14th December.
So on Wednesday 11th I sat down to try and crank this out. It's rough with many, many faults but all 6 pages were completed in 14 hours over 3 days. There are continuity problems. Joe and Shakara may have differences of costume from page to page which I would have amended given a more normal timescale.
Gail made it look easy. I found it really tough to work this quickly. These pages are somewhere between sketch and finished work. But I did manage to get it done in a really tight timescale. But...it's just a bit of fun. So please excuse the lack of cohesive direction in the story. Jumps in narrative, poor lettering and the afore mentioned inconsistent art.
It's all Gail's fault. YO-HO-HO.
Have a Merry Christmas.

I've been waiting to do this one since I started doing these Calvin and Hobbes mash-ups. But was waiting until I'd run out of X-Mas ones I could rip off!

The Christmas Charity raffle results are in, and are covered in the video, unfortunatly the video didn't record properly for the draw but hopefully you trust me ( and my wife!)

https://youtu.be/XI1HzusMP34

1st prize the 2000AD notebook and pen go to Damian and Helena Edwardson
2nd the Carlos portrait goes to Craig Dawson
3rd the signed Turbo Jones goes to Sheridan and Rachael
4th the John Higggins prints go to Kevin Symonds
And 5th the Dredd pin goes to star of stage and screen, Jamie Beamish

We raised £362 with the raffle bringing the grand total to a stonking £9791.44
Getiing very close to the £10k target I set myself for this project.

Thanks all for all the donations and shares, and congratulations to the winners. I'll be in touch.

I'm was (still am) a fan of these old giant Marvel treasury editions especially the Xmas themed ones.

This was my second less involved piece. Had to put my main one on the back burner. I'm kind of running out of ideas for these advent calendars as I've been submitting at least one a year since the first one.

Would have liked to have tightened up the inks on mine but at 5am it was time to upload.

It's my first day off in a while and it's chucking it down outside, so that was just what I needed for a lie-in.  The New Zealand stuff had me chuckling too.   (By the way, don't forget to change one letter in your crossword and resubmit it, and for everyone doing it, 9 down doesn't start with F!)

Well done everyone so far. Wish I had your talent!

I haven't forgotten about my entry everyone! I'll upload it when I get home. It actually relates to my entry on the 2017 thread. (I thought it was last year's.. doesn't time fly scary fast.)

I had an idea for a Strontium Dog strip back then and left it too late and ended up drawing a picture instead. (I checked it out again earlier, and doesn't my Wulf look gaunt! For Wulf anyway.) I intended to do the strip this year, and again left it too late. I did a prose piece instead,* but I think this may work out better.I'm not much of an artist.

I'm not much of a writer, either to be fair, but this was quite fun.

* Or rather the first part. I'll upload that this evening. Second part  should be uploaded on the freeforall day, Christmas Eve.

Really enjoyed your 'Wulf's-eye view' story; the talking heads work for me! And the idea of
mutating tachyons blasting backwards through time
is genius (Wagner and Grant missed a trick there), as is your brave effort to knit the Dredd / Stront timelines together - never an easy task.  Looking forward to seeing the rest.

Really enjoying the Rogue strip too - the spirit of the Christmas armistice is alive and well. Things are all going to go horribly wrong, aren't they...?

Conrad - now I really want to watch the first Dredd film again.  But ONLY with your commentary.

Thank JB. That means a lot. I enjoyed it when I wrote it the day before, but on reading it through and editing yesterday, I felt it dragged. Part of that might have been because I was reading a story I'd told myself then read back again, but I think it could use some paring down.

Especially meaty tale from the Shark there, great stuff.

As always I stand in awe of the contributions on this thread, now a fixed part of my Christmas season, and always a highlight. Thank you all.

So Redbaz offered this entry to this years Advent for sale and while I dillied and dallied waiting to see how well I came out of the holidays I kept going back to this entry and thinking it would be madness to pass on such a wonderful piece at the incredible price he offered it for. and so...

I captured this glory. Now standard cliche's abound in the flesh it is simply stunning, but you get a good sense of how good this is from this scan that the also lovely Redbaz sent before sending the actual piece (from his website he gave me permission to share). He very kindly sent some really fun Drokkober pieces to I must get around to sharing. But yeah just adore this piece. Is exactly the sort of thing I'd like to see winning the art comp. Nowt wrong with the lovely 'painted' pieces we've had so far but they are a little predictable, if wonderfully executed. Something that adds a little something extra and different,  like this is what I always want to get the Star Scan...

Anyway I've blathere quite enough I'm going to immerse myself in Redbaz's website. Come join me.
