Sad news.  When I was given a handful of progs as a kid, 308 was the earliest of the batch, containing the first episode of Skizz.  The first prog I actually bought was 330, containing the last episode.  Much of my early back prog gathering involved filling in the gaps in the Skizz tale.  About five years later when I visited Birmingham (also while a child) it was like visiting a film set as I hadn't been to any places that had appeared in fiction before.

Yeah, but those were proton bombs that were fired directly down into the target, not dropped.

I'm sure Wookieepedia will soon create an online reference, if it hasn't all ready, to explain how TLJ's specific space-bombs work in the way the films never do.

I would call it a weak Discworld novel. There's good ideas and some flashes of brilliance, but it doesn't fully land.

And just like weak Discworld novels, you can be secure in the knowledge that there will be another next year.

At least that used to be the case.

In retrospect, "let go of the past" is less a delusion on the part of someone making a film featuring characters, plots and visuals from 40 year-old movies and more a desperate plea from the company to come back for the next one, because without the original characters a lot of people have a jumping-off point for Star Wars, while others will probably have a jumping-off point from the PR campaign looking to turn being a Star Wars fan into the equivalent of being a skinhead.

What's the line about being a skinhead all about?

Just watched Jaws (which is being followed by Jaws 2, but I have work in the morning so I have to go to bed once I finish my coffee).

It stars Roy Sheider, and not Rob Schneider, as Rackle guessed - that would have been a very different film!

REALLY hope you dig this project. We've bent over backwards to work it into Stronti-nuity, preserving and honouring everything that's gone before (and after), while making it our own and keeping the whole thing accessible to new readers (boys AND girls).
Design-wise, me and Ben spent aaaaaages going back and forth, covering everything from body type, hairdo, face, clothes, weapons – even underwear! (Got a lot of female input on that one. )

Whittaker's Doctor presses a single button, (probably the correct button), and "MULTIPLE SYSTEMS FAILURE" flashes up on a screen, the TARDIS goes mental and cracks appear along the uppydown bit of the console, likely due to damage caused by the regeneration energy shooting out all over the place a few seconds beforehand.

Sod all wrong with her driving.

Intentional or not, the connotations of such a scene are obvious, as evidenced by the rampant comments barreling around the internet. I hope she'll be brilliant, and I hope Chibnall injects something new and exciting into a show that's too often become tiresome under Moffat. (I liked the last series a lot, but with someone like Capaldi, it shouldn't have taken that long to get him into a watchable space.)

The connotations did cross my mind too - Interesting about Smith and Capaldi, but I don't remember their very first actions being to 'crash' the TARDIS.  Remains to be seen whether the button push is justified in the next series, though I doubt it will be (if they needed to get the Doctor away from the ship, it could have been done better).

More to look forward to - 2018 looks like the year of games - the Worlds of 2000AD RPG, Block War and now Cursed Earth!

To be fair (to the raving fanboys) the 2005 version was supposed to be Vader, while the 2015/2017 is somebody who has grown up in Vader's shadow and feels inadequate in relation to him.  When writing American Graffiti, Lucas had help from Katz and Huyck, particularly to develop the relationship and romantic themes.  The prequel trilogy does not appear to have had this development process.  I was watching Attack of the Clones in the run-up to the midnight double-bill, and still can't see what on earth Padme would see in Anakin in the scenes where she's supposed to be falling for him.
