Help! / im looking for 1990s thunder action comic book
01 January, 2006, 09:57:31 PM
hi there, im wondering if you can help - im looking for an old weekly or fortnightly called thunder action starring the thunder agents and an original strip called jonny thunder in half the comic. it started about late 80s or early to mid 90s and didnt last long, was published by power comics for a steve something (cant remember his surname, very strange and foreign sounding) - he used his own money and was tricked into over committing himself by producing a very professional product in our sale or return marketplace which crucified him in debt when the returns landed on him as he was essentially producing the new issue to pay his returns bill, i think he was 27 or something when he committed suicide.
there should be warehouses of them unsold somewhere, any help or information greatly appreciated

Off Topic / NHS??
13 April, 2004, 07:18:26 AM
this is a bit off_topic and im trying not to swear here

basically, my local hospital is an absolute nightmare, they have tried to kill my nan several times - the doctors dont care anymore

and now recently, a freind of mine since childhood has had one of those terrible accidents happen to him, he was a great guy, hes about 60 dd and he used to go for a walk for a few miles every day and id see him around and say hi

he never married, he looked after his mum until she died instead and hes inherited the house now, but he got ill an went into the hospital for minor checkups and with heart problems

during a routine analysis, the radiologist was taking samples or something and he accidentally injected all the crap into his liver (killing it)

hes now on dialysis and has had at least 20 years wiped off his life, he was quite fit and the results have come back that he needs a heart bypass - he would have got it, and like that

but now hes classed as too weak to have the operation - so the hospital has killed two birds with one stone (tommy and the waiting list figure he would have created)

i asked him what he thought and why he wasnt sueing them and he said,
'theres no point in sueing them, the money they pay me will come from other patient funding and i dont want someone else going thru what im going thru - it was a mistake and thats that'

ultimately this is the governments fault in asking doctors to work long hours and the chronic mis management of the nhs, underfunding is not the problem but sheer wastage of resources is

why doesnt the nhs just pay agency wages instead of creaming off 1000s of pounds in taxpayers money o bureaucrats and unneccessary 'legue tables' that can be manipulated to make it look like they are doing good

things like this just make me mad, of course the hospital has hushed it up and local media hasnt even heard about it??

General / jesus redondo art?? in girl comics
09 April, 2004, 12:24:28 PM
just checking out some annuals and it would appear that there is jesus redondo and what looks like john burns pin ups in the 1978 diana annual

jesus redondo also did the art for the story 'my big brother marmaduke'

there is also a story that looks like it was done by the same guy that drew 'billys boots' but i cant remember his name??

anybody know of any offbeat creator appearances, which stories were written by which writers etc

Off Topic / greenhouse warriors
06 April, 2004, 09:24:15 AM
this was supposed to come out from tundra but was the first to be dropped due to poor sales,

the artist and writer decided to self publish and it was going to be a 12 issue series, does anyone know if it finished - i think it was picked up by an american company but i dont know what form it took eventually

03 April, 2004, 10:48:25 AM
small indy comics craze circa 1994

CM COMICS (initials of founder) started self publishing black and white super hero anthologies, i picked up a few but no one has ever heard of tehm now...???

BRIT FORCE, STRAY DOGS, (not sure what came out and didnt, i remember a few of the characters got their own series but the art got ropey as their resources were diluted between more titles)

this is in response to the watchers comments about judge dredd the movie on the biggest blunder thread

basically, was this really the only way to get the movie made (hollywood route, and with a first time director who has since gone on to better things)

its true u cant blame the 2000ad editorial for the decisons made by the movie team - but what say did they have in it, was it all egmont head honchos who took the money and bolted and why was the money not re invested in the comic (after all marvel is now going down the route that the comics are just advertisements for teh merchandising, dc has done this for 20 years consecutively - so what is 2000ad/REBELLION doing wrong i this dept)

should 2000ad have held out for more control and powers in the film or gone down their own route, was this just sheer short termism or was the comic hemorhaging readers to the point that this was the only way to save it (paid for advertising in the form of a film license and dc doing film spin offs rather than another company doing usa reprints)

how many people started reading then, and still are - more importantly how many drifted away or feel that its not been as good since

last but not least, what were they thinking - why did they make these decisions (100 years earlier, dredd not being a clone, fargo still alive,, a comedy side kick other than max normal, far too many storylines interwoven into a 90 min film)

so what do u think/know - let the debate begin??

General / moon runners???
18 March, 2004, 04:43:25 PM
if u havent read this story then keep an eye on this thread and no doubt all will be revealed,
if its about to drop off teh end of teh page, if u could save it as well - that would be good

this was a bit like a replacement for ace garp (the trucking theme) and it had the same creative team, i could never really get into it but i was just wondering did they actually just produce this as a direct replacement of ace garp (it was kinda crossed with medivac 318 as well) so

Suggestions / how about the option to edit posts???
17 March, 2004, 06:50:49 PM
this would in effect lead to a large number of permanent threads that would just be jumped to the top, arather than teh curent transient nature of message board threads

meaning that u could have a thread for skizz etc, people would have to keep going back to it

General / MEAN TEAM - what happenned??
15 March, 2004, 06:28:25 PM
the first series of MEAN TEAM was excellent and it ended - no longer being a future sport but paving the way for a possible quest back to DEATHWORLD or something

but there was nothing for ages - then the second series arrived and it had a different writer but a very familiar setting to the MELTDOWN MAN and was virtually the MELTDOWN MAN but with MEAN TEAM characters

when they were all wiped out that was just silly, really

2000ad often seems to do this, bringing back a series name with a new creative team that wipes out all that has gone before or new characters and just the same name

Help! / support my comic addiction!
15 March, 2004, 05:25:09 PM
or help - need space,
i am presently working 15 boxes of stuff in no particular order before i sit down and work out how much i have actually made (at around 30 listings a day im sure the profit is low, thats ?240 a month on listing fees alone)

stuff ranges from videos to books at the mo (i cant to the comics or videogames till after this lot)

anything thats priced high is either bcos i paid that much for it or npbs leave me no choice but to charge that much to make my listing fees back - there are very funny stories attached to several items and a few unfolding at the moment, if u have a problem just leave it and move on

General / harlem heroes update???
15 March, 2004, 02:51:24 PM
the harlem heroes update around prog 600 or so, i liked the first story but then the art drops and nothing much happens in each one really

but the art of i think, steve dillon saved it in my mind but the one thing is every time i read it i couldnt work out what it had to do with harlem heroes?

why was it called harlem heroes?? i cant remember the full story now but i get the same sort of feeling when i read durham red (why is this durham red, it has nothing to do with durham red and is just like new characters in a story called durham red - thats the kind of feeling i got with it)

General / SKIZZ - a magnum opus and half???
13 March, 2004, 10:35:59 PM
okey dokey then - SKIZZ was one of my favourite stories ever when i as a kid reading 200ad

u have to understand that i didnt read it complete the first time around but i was really enjoying it,

my first experience was the issue in which skizz was being sick and i must admit to being quite intrigued

it wasnt until the best of 2000ad came out that i was able to read it complete and i must admit it walks all over ET which cam about the same time

which leads me to my question, which came fist SKIZZ or ET?? (im not suggesting ET was influenced by SKIZZ as i think that came first but id be interested as to whether it was a completely original idea or was it sparked by this film)
