Website and Forum / I'd love an edit post function...
25 January, 2006, 03:57:59 AM
or even a preview before post thing; the amount of times I've posted straight after an original message because I've noticed a mistake.

Probably a lot to ask I admit; just throwing it in the air

Off Topic / my Discworld fanfic - please review...
03 January, 2006, 04:25:58 PM
...If you like Discworld stuff. It's just the first chapter, and is definately a work in progress, but I'd like the opinion of people that aren't my dad, who thinks every bit of creative writing I've done is good. And don't worry about being critical; you can post anonymously and being genuinely critical is far better than blanket praise(not so good for my ego though ;) )

Off Topic / Hemel Explosion
12 December, 2005, 01:00:10 AM
just really suprised a thread on this isn't up here yet
-there were no people killed, and luckly my brother who lives in Hemel wasn't injured, and my Dad who has been staying down there hasn't either, but he's helping a family friend who's flat has been a bit busted by the explosion.

I'm in Luton, and apparently people could hear the explosion from there, but i mananaged to sleep through it

On firefox the website loads with a little 2000AD icon on the address bar, and other sites, like the beeb, have their own icons too, but some other websites that are proffesionaly run (e.g Radio times) don't.

Just curious: is it something you have to pay for and/or programme in?

Off Topic / scariest thing ...
25 November, 2005, 04:10:09 AM
...was just this Tuesday, when one of my tutors (Not my poetry writing one) said that she thought the best work I've done was a piece I did from the first person view point of a woman. I'd repeat what Max said in the chatroom about himself once 'maybe I'm a lesbian in a man's body', but bthe whole thing was the internal thoughts of a girl lusting over a guy...maybe those lust thoughts are just more uniniversal than feminists would have us believe

General / photoshop/ms paint scary boarder/droid photos
23 November, 2005, 06:05:21 AM
let us celebrate our cliquieness by photoshopping pictures of Boarders and/or droids with obscure in- jokes, alienating all newbies- Hurrah!

Here's one I done earlier (in my defence I'd only just got paintshop at the time.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v297/Connexus/stuff/kingtrout.jpg" alt="Image hosted by Photobucket.com">

There'll be no prize, except that feeling that by being able to win a cliquey in-joke comp, you really should get out more.
You can photoshop yourself,if you're desperate not to offend, and it doesn't have to include in jokes- it can just be weird if you are a newbie

oh, and no recycling Mulcher driving photoshops-I want unseen stuff

Here's hoping that this'll end up like my 2000AD little Pony comp, and not like every other art comp I've run on this site since

don't use the tired boring response- 'Cause the writers' said' That is such a nerdy response, I don't like nerds*
Show some imagination peeps

*my personal definition; Nerds are the calculator freaks- they're the kind that would argue over the number of links there are in Dredd's chain.
Geeks are the imaginative freaks-they're the type that would argue over 'why doesn't Dredd use the re-juve facilities from time to time, like every other judge seems to**?'

Not of course that there can't be some overlap,in fact there frequently is, but a thread of , say, just prog numbers and their publishing dates would make me scream 'Anal' and make my brain dribble out my ears

I'm not talking about logical things like spiders, the dark or that time you saw mummy playing with a plastic sausage*

No, i'm talking about the completely illogical, or at least, completely illogical to an adult's mind.

Me, I was scared of the Wimpy beefeater man (anyone remember him?) I think I must have 'met' him at some Wimpy restaraunt opening, and his grotesque unnaturalness must have feaked out my tiny liitle mind. I guess that wouldn't be so bad, but whenever we went to eat at Wimpy's (which was often, we were poor back then) The beefeater stood behind us, motionless and scaring the bejeebus out of me.Don't know why I never mentioned it to my parents- probably the even greater fear that my older brothers would laugh in my face :(

*I actually never wittnessed such an event, though I imagine it would be traumatic, it freaked me out finding an elcric dildo charging up when i went into my parent's bedroom for some sissors about half a year ago-even now knowing they get up to that kind of stuff- Ugghh

it's footie ,and there was me thinking it had to be something major like the national team playing in the world cup (or in the case of Scotland, failing to qualify for the world cup) for us geeks to be interested...

If i got you totally wrong and there's some gripping plot line closure on Emmerdale that's keeping you all away, do tell ;)

Help! / Noisybast!
02 November, 2005, 12:28:02 AM
A computer game you (or at least part did) was part inspiration for a story I wrote(am writing)- gosh these brackets are confusing ain't they?- and I want to give you due credit in my write up when i explain the whole thing

It's the game with the human, ork and dwarf (and elf?) in a joint squad and in futuristic/modern cop clothing.

It inspired me in that my story is based in a multispecies city, with importantly, multispecies cops- cause of the obvious parrallel with discworld setting it it in a moderny/futuristic timeline helps- tried to keep it straight throught out too, to add further distance(this can be dang tricky for me to do some times, I mean I wrote a passage in  what i thought was straight prose, and my tutor applauds me for writing a comedic peice ) *shakes head and cries*

anyway Cheers Bast,

Conexus

I'll email the whole thing once it's completed if you're interested, except the dissatation, doubt you'll be interested in that

Soccer team feels bad; to refund fans' money
Reuters News Service

STOCKHOLM - Swedish IF league team Elfsborg will refund the admission fee and traveling costs to soccer fans who attended their crushing 8-1 defeat at newly-crowned champions Djurgarden in the final game of the Swedish premier league season, the club said Tuesday.

Elfsborg admitted their performance at Djurgarden was "unacceptable," and promised to refund ticket and travel expenses to fans who made a round-trip of around 435 miles to Stockholm to watch the game.

"We wish that we had been able to say that it depended on external factors, but there are no excuses, no explanations. We were just bad," the club, who finished the season in seventh place, said in a statement.

"We want to apologize to all our supporters, members and sponsors and the volunteers who work for our organization."

"8-1 will be ringing in our ears for the coming five or six months," Elfsborg said.'

Website and Forum / wake: could you change a title?
27 October, 2005, 08:01:28 PM
Namely, could you change the title 'Abbadon is 'slave labour' ' to something that isn't writtened by a pissed off idiot - 're: the Abaddon deal' would do.

I'd also appreciate it if you added a p.s to my original post, if you can, that i now know that that post is a load of balls - though if that isn't possible, fair enough- I have apologised further down at least anyway.

General / is the Abbadon deal 'slave labour'
27 October, 2005, 12:23:22 AM
paraphrasing what my creative writing teacher said after he read the author guidelines i'd been sent -he did say the slave labour part- their flat fee is about the kind of advance you should expect for that level of writing if you are a first time author . He also objected to the fact that copywright stays with Abbaddon, I'm not so critical of this , cause you would be writing in a copywrighted universe, and it is standard practise with comics.

Looking back at it, although it sounded  all nice and egaliterian saying you didn't need to be published before or have an agent to submit, I can't help think this was done to lure in the ignorant (not an insult-I include myself with the ignorant too) who wouldn't know the going rate, or have someone (i.e their agent) to tell them the going rate, and that the4 contract is basicaly crap.

If Rebbelion can't aford to treat it's authors the way other novel publishing houses do, it shouldn't have a novel publishing division
