Yeah, that sounds daft! Rebellion do normally seem on top of these things, they just made an absolute hash of that one. The fact their PR announcement seemed to exist solely on Facebook also irritated me a lot.

At least Rebellion's often catering for the hardcore with the limited-run hardcovers, although I do get the impression that Nemesis one caught them by surprise.)

It shouldn't have! The reproduction on the Nemesis phone books is not good, so as well as the normal demand for specials there are a lot of people who would like a good version of some classic stories.

I'm still irritated about the way Rebellion put those out.

Yes, I got a pleasant surprise this morning when I was picking a podcast for my run. Glad to see it back!

The wonderful Terry Jones.  :(

An utterly tragic end for a brilliant man. As well as his Python work and films, his medieval history shows were fascinating and hilarious.

You wouldn't want to look too closely at many of the archaeology pages on there either. A huge number of articles seem to draw solely on 19th C to 1950s secondary sources, loosely glossed with hugely complex and generally misinterpreted DNA data. It's like 70 years of careful grounded research and rigorous interpretation never happened, and good luck getting any of it stuck back in there.

At some point someone decided it would be a good idea to upload out-of-copyright 19th and early 20th century encyclopedias. You come across this stuff on history pages a lot and it clearly displays the biases of the era.

Can't disagree about the random events but I'd disagree strongly about the battles; positioning and survival expenditure are both critical tactical decisions which can have a huge impact on the outcome. In the early game the battles are a bit of a dice chucking fest as the survivors don't have much gear to provide options or survial to spend.  Once survivors have some half decent gear and are facing some of the higher level monsters just running in and hitting with everything you've got is likely to just get you killed faster. Specialising your survivors into different roles is the route to success.

I didn't have the patience or time to get that far! Our group did 6 or 7 evenings of it before the campaign was interrupted. I've tried to resist its return.

The game certainly has its fans, though.

It's now two months since this has been updated. Have they announced that it has been cancelled or is it just on hiatus?

I've played quite a few sessions of KD:M. Apart from the juvenile sensibility, the game itself is just not very good. It relies on random events, which give you little warning of the outcome or control. The battles itself are essentially just dice rolling fests with minimal tactics. The only form of tactic or planning comes in the equipment of your characters and, in the games I played, there were very few options there.

There are many, many better games available at a fraction of the cost.

I enjoyed it as well. It doesn't take itself too seriously but there's enough going on with the characters and structure to keep it interesting. I particularly enjoyed that all bar the last two episodes had a discrete story for the Witcher himself, even while the other story threads continued on their GoT-like way.

On the other hand, I was back to a Saturday prog last week (though the Meg arrived yesterday), which is the first time in months.

This sounds like a good move to make Dredd accessible to new readers, particularly those outside the UK. On  Reddit, and presumably other social media sites, every second thread seems to ask "Where should I start with reading Dredd?". Saying "just read the Essential Judge Dredd series" is a lot better than referring people to book 5 of a 30+ book series, a book that features Dredd as an antagonist, and a handful of other books (in their many and varying editions).

Let's hope this and Kingmaker never bump into each other in a Nerve Centre corridor - could be orc-ward!

For some reason I had it in my head that this and Kingmaker existed in the same world.

Ah, the Demon Bear - a prime bit of Sienkiewicz.

He's said he's pretty happy with it on the old social medias, too.

That's a good sign - if they can capture even a soupcon of his unique-but-notoriously-difficult-to-replicate aesthetic, they're doing well. (See also: Warlock, who proved virtually impossible for anyone else to draw.)

One of the great achievements of "Into the Spider-Verse" was in animating Sienkiewicz's take on Kingpin. That film is a modern classic.

Droid Life  "Flicker" is a word to be lettered very carefully. Hopefully that droid's name isn't Clint.
