That is a superb cover.
My favourite of the whole year.

Or you could have just bought the damned shitty paper every single day that Dredd was in it, cut it out and pasted it into an album...

I still bear the scars.

Anyone got a spare copy  of The Judge Dredd Chronicles 21 published by Titan?
It's the only one I'm missing.
If so let me know how much you would like for it.
Cheers.

Went away once around issue 500. I had been with the prog since issue 1 but with football and girls being a more interesting form of spending my spare time I donated all my progs to a chum and departed.

Some years later I went for a job interview. I was nervous and had got to the interview about an hour earlier than I should have. Browsing in a newsagents to while away some time I came across an issue of the "Best Of 2000 AD". I bought it and read it whilst I waited. By the time I had finished it was time for my interview which went swimmingly and I got the job on the spot. Coming out I decided to celebrate and bought, from the same newsagents, that weeks issue as I had been bathed in nostalgia with the best of before.

From that day onwards I placed a regular order and then three years ago, when I moved house far, far away from my newsie, I subscribed.

Thankfully the chum I had donated my progs to had kept them in spiffing condition and was happy to give them back to me. I then haunted several local comic emporiums gleefully filling up the gaps in my collection. Although I now have a complete collection of progs and megs the bug still bites in my quest for 2000 AD domination and I started to collect anything twooth.

I'm still at but now I have had to diversify as I have pretty much everything (including the candles of Dredd and Death) and have started to complete a collection of Action and Battle simply because the writers and artists often intertwined.
It's a sickness but it keeps me off the streets.

I'll add "Fly In My Eye" and the "Taboo" series from the 90's to this list.
Some weird and creepy stuff.

The Walking Dead, as previously suggested, and of course the granddaddies of them all, the EC horror line. "Tales From The Crypt", "Vault Of Horror", and "The Haunt Of Fear".
I return to them almost daily.

Prog 1 for me too. Was getting "Planet of the Apes" before that but changed the minute I saw that bright red spinner.
Fell off around the 500 issue and got back on at 700 or so.

Have bought the prog since issue one with a lapse around issue 500 to 700 (big lapse I know) when things like girls and football took preference.
Used to have it saved at a newsagents and gave it up when I moved out of the family homestead. Went to a different newsagents when I picked it back up again and continued with that until nearly three years ago when we moved house again (mainly due to lack of space because of all the comic boxes) and then decided to subscribe. October will be my third year of subscribing.

I did track down all of the issues and specials that I missed so I have a complete collection but I still buy the case files of JD and the Strontium Dog ones and the Nemesis ones because it's easier to read those than unbagging and unboarding several issues.

I love having a sub to both twoth and the meg and often save up a months worth to plough through in one go rather than reading it as God Tharg intended.

And as I type this Mr Postie has just delivered this weeks worth of goodies.  ;D

Some fantastic memories here. Kudos to all the posters.
My own memories are pretty similar. I started with 2000 AD from prog 1. The first time I was ever allowed to go to the shops on my own was nary a week later. Mum had returned home with my copy of prog 2 but sadly it missing the stickers. I badgered my mum so much she gave me another 8p and let me go to the local newsie on my own to get a second copy.

A couple of years later and I was making the regular trip to FP. This involved a 5p bus fare that took me on the number 29 bus from Enfield where I lived all the way to Tottenham Court Road. The journey took about 90 minutes all through Turnpike Lane, Wood Green, Camden and then onto the promised land. The first time I made the trip I spent a good hour searching for FP and not finding it. Eventually I saw a couple of chaps with FP bags and they sent me in the right direction. Thanks lads!

After that I was to make that journey on an almost regular basis. Those were the days when I would have no more than £2 to spend in the shop on each journey. Sometimes much less.

My favourite visit was to get my 1981 annuals signed by the droids of the nerve centre. They were to be a Christmas present because I could not afford them so my parents had stumped up the money and a friend and I travelled down to FP early and was in the queue three hours before the start of the signing. I still have both annuals I got signed from that day.

Later on in life and I was to make Comicana my comic shop when it was called something else and located in Barnet. I had a subscription from them. When they moved to Shaftsbury Avenue I continued with my sub by would often have comics I did not want put in with my sub and charged for them. Usually the were crappy DC comics the shop was trying to move like "Birds of Prey". I did once bring this to the attention of Alex, the black fella who worked there, and he just said, "Oh you really should have them, they are great." Not wanting to look a mug I did continue to have them for 6 months and then decided it would be easier never to return rather than pay for crap comics I didn't want. Alex was a decent chap and iirc the owner of the shop was Duncan McAlpine was authored the Uk comic price guide.

Good memories chaps.

What the vehicles that Dredd used in "The Cursed Earth" were called in real life.

By 'real life' I mean you used to be able to buy them as toys before they were featured in the pages of 2000 AD but I cant remember the name of them.

I could go and look through all my old progs for the answer but that would involve a lot of de-bagging...

Anyone out there to save me from the dreaded de-bagging...

Ta.

Top, top quality thread.

My only success was the gushing embarrassment in the 2007 prog, star letter.

But I don't care, I got a Judge Fire Heroclix and a Halo Jones graphic novel. Not forgetting the personnaly signed (by the tea lady) letter from Tharg.

This thread has taken the best part of the day to read.

Pure gold.
