There's a red skull on page 5 of Anderson though...
Just a little rough and tumble, Judge man.

I was lucky enough to find the last copy in my newsagents. I think it's going like hot cakes (at least I hope it does!). I was planning on getting another copy just in case a fellow boarder was after one. Alas....I think it's worth the delivery cost. If you don't find a copy, then get it from Tharg.  ;)

WH Smiths declined to take the Winter Special according to the 2000 AD fb page.

Really? I can see the FB droid answering lots of questions regarding availability but studiously not making any direct reference to Smiths.

They stocked the summer special in ridiculous numbers... Bah. How hard is it to get a clear answer on these things.

Steve Green

Well, there's a clear answer on the fb page, in a reply to someone asking about availability half an hour ago.

James Stacey

I got mine from Mega City Comics seeing as I was passing on the weekend. Not seen it in the wild in Cardiff yet.

Very hard, as it turns out.

Off and on, I've worked in newspapers, magazines and now comics for the last twenty years and I've come to the conclusion that the three key features of the UK newsstand/high street distribution system are impenetrability, illogicality and outright hostility to a great many of the products they actually sell.

Well, just finished reading the Winter Special and what an enjoyable experience it was!

Defoe, Anderson and Rogue Trooper were my highlights, but all the strips were a great read, with lovely art, all wrapped up in that striking cover!

Well done Tharg, looking forward to the next Summer Special now!   ;)

Smiths do get my back-up with all the space they dedicate to tattoo mags and other rubbish but they can't find space for a winter special!  ::)

I'll order this direct from the web store then.

It's based on block booking of shelf space - if you're produced by (or can get in with) one of the big magazine publishing conglomerates that's willing to fork out for a set amount of space each week then you're sorted. 2000 AD and the Megazine are safe and fine, but sadly it seems there was no spare space for the Winter Special.

It's a shame the special wasn't on sale with the Prog on my weekly trek to Smiths, still the service from the future shop was exemplary.   :)

Got this, read it & loved it. Thouigh for the whole childhood memory effect I really should have read it 6 times in a row sat in the back of the car coming back from Oban.  :)

Hmm, just pretend I wrote something witty eh?
