Thanks to a delightful video on what is arguably the firstsuperhero comic book, Spring Heeled Jack, I discovered that tou can read a bunch of golden age comics at The Digital Comic Museum, where a huge mass of public domain comics from the likes of Lev Gleeson, Joe Kubert, and John Biro are avialble to read and download, free of charge. They even compiled character based "archive" editions for the likes of Blue Beetle, Phantom Lady and Silver Streak. I'm reading the Daredevil and The Claw collection via Chunky and it's quite bizarre to think these are over 80 years old and I can read them on my Ipad!

Here is another, I have used it for the fanzines, I cant say how 'Legal' the rest of the content is.http://comicbookplus.com/

M.I.K.

1904 version of Spring-Heeled Jack : bloke from wealthy background, whose initials are B.W., lurks about in the shadows and fog, jumps around a lot, and punishes wrong-doers using a variety of gadgets, while wearing an outfit with bat wings and pointy ears. Has a secret base. Also likes vandalising stuff by carving an 'S' into things, a decade and a half before Zorro decided it was a nifty idea, (but with a different letter, obviously).

Currently reading two series by Fletcher Hanks called Fantomah and Stardust and both are utterly bizarre in possibly the best ways imaginable. Awful art, surreal imagery, out of control and redundant stories and horrible dialogue. But I can't stop reading! They are so unusual and so bizarre and....I actualy kind of like both characters in a morbid kind of way.
