I've probably mentioned it elsewhere, but I'm becoming an uncle next year. It and other prioritites have made come to a decision to more or less go off grid from forums and such.

I'd just like to say thanks to everyone for a great time on this forum. It was nice visiting it now and then.

Bye!  :)

Music / Re: First single or album bought

Might have been Belinda Carlisle - A Woman and a Man. I was 9 y/o and and thought she looked nice on the album cover. I also remembered liking her voice. Looked her up on Spotify just now, and apperantly she also made Heaven's a place on earth. Didn't know that. Still a nice voice.

I also remember owning a copy of Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?. Pretty sure I got it thanks to Wonderwall. Remember listening to Cast no Shadow over and over for hours thinking about how it was made and slowly figuring out what the words meant (English is my 2nd language). Still love it now as much as then.

Some cool books. I'll probably pick the up the Luke Fox Batman and Mister Miracle.

Wonder what happened with José Ladrönn drawing Batman. Was looking forward to that.

I really love Big Trouble in Little China. One of the finest movies there is to enjoy in the company of friends. On my top 3 of his together with Escape from New York and The thing.

Also really like Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, Prince of Darkness (such a weird film), They live, Mouth of madness and Cigarette burns.

There's also one I'd do well not mentioning: over the top dumb fun and quite the joy to watch with friends late at night over a beer or two.

The only Carpenter films I haven't seen are Vampires and Elvis. Vampires any good?

Games / Re: Last game played...

Managed to beat Donkey Kong Country 2 yesterday. Loved that game as a kid, at least the graphics and the soundtrack. I only played it now and then at friends houses, and never got far. Alot of times I just wanted to listen to the tunes, like for example this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQx91RR3Y8o

So finishing it. Felt like "Iron Crotch Kung Fu" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2c_-9kIjyU

It's a really hard game, and things doesn't become easier when you're constantly needed to make pixel perfect jumps over enemies which have far from pixel perfect hit boxes. Almost drove over the edge at times. Especially on levels you need to be speedy riding a parrot with the two monkies hanging from it's feet.

So while the gameplay wasn't my favorite (I much prefer DKC1 and the 2.5D games by Retro) I came to like how varied the game is. Almost every level comes up with something new (and often infuriating) gimmick or gameplay element.

If this sounds like an interesting game then it's out on the virtual console you get via the nintendo switch online. While I'd rather recommend DKC1 or Tropical Freeze I still think people should give it a try, if not just to experience the nice 2d graphics and lovely music.

And here's one for tropical freeze (also a REALLY HARD game) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSxDAyit9ak

Rorschach #1 by Tom King and Jorge Fornes Cool setup, but Idk. Didn't interest me as much as I thought it would. For one thing, alot of the characters are never called by their name. I would'v liked that since there's a murder mystery going on. Think I'll trade wait for this one.

Green lantern season 2 #8 by Grant Morrison and Liam Sharp Some sort of cosmic war is going. Anti matter laterns. Scrambled backwards talk. Not 100% on what's going on, but it's good fun.

Strange adventures #6 by Tom King, Mitch Gerads and Evan Shaner Continues the slow build, but I like it. Mister Terrific grills Alanna during a walk in the cold, and there's more on what happened during the war on Rann. Gerads art is on fire in this issue.

Moonshine #21 by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso  The current arc has dragged a little, but I think this issue made things interesting again. Witty dialouge and some cool developments. Just wish I'd find the werewolf stuff more interesting.

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

Read Ted Lewis' Jack's return home (Get Carter). Read it mostly out of curiousity since I like the film, and it was quite good. A black hearted gangster Jack Carter returns home to see his brother buried, and then starts to badmouth and strong arm his way through his hometown. Hoping to punish someone for what he believes is a murder. It's basically the film that followed, but in book form. Very brutal and nasty. Especially how casual some of the stuff is. Very shocking at times.

Tom O'Neill's Chaos, a book about the ins and outs of the Manson murders. Makes a valid point that the police work wasnt the best, and brings about some weird and possible connections between the Manson family and fbi, a doctor who killed a dr who killed an elephant with lsd among other fascinating finds. And he does this while still keeping to the point that the investigation of the Manson family wasnt the best.

Tom also makes interesting observations of his 20 years looking into stuff, interviewing people. The mistakes he makes, and how much of it ultimately is a search for information without end rather than getting answers. Reminded me a bit of Robert Graysmith's work on the Zodiac killer, or James Ellroys My dark places.

A very interesting read.

Escape from New York Saw it in a local cinema. Still a classic. Lean and mean.

Found a good vinyl copy of Nirvana - Nevermind in the local convenience store of all places. The cover made the clerk  a bit stunned.

I'm 1/6 into Clone Wars on Disney +, watching it in chronological order

https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-clone-wars-chronological-episodeorder

Damn good stuff. I think it nails both the space opera feel of episodes 4 - 6 as well as the world building aspect of episodes 1 - 3. It also has the modular aspect of both those film trilogies. It can be watched stand alone as well as working really well in conjuction with both trilogy. I'd also like to mention that each episode works well "stand alone", even if you catch one in the middle of a 3-4 episode story ark. There's a beginning and ending to each of them. And on a side note, Jar-Jar never bothered much in episode 1. But he didn't make me laugh: In Clone Wars he has. But he's not the central character of the show, there are a bunch of them. And for me the eye of the storm is Ashooka. A young Jedi padawan which I think not sports the boy scout qualities of Luke Skywalker and -at times - pain/doubt of Anakin, but even a bit of the weariness of Obi Wan. The clone troopers are also good bunch. They're all the same, but the tiny details really stands out. They all live to die in battle, but also know that they are seen as expendable. Good men, but not much better than droids. But you feel each of them try to find something making it worth while. Be it a nick name, or hair cut. Something small to make a clone soldier feel a sense of self, or just having something to cling on to.

My doomscrolling.

I would rather be fed a daily diet of nice news, great art and writing, but i insist on checking twitter feeds, news sites etc. that i know will grind my gears down! Then i'm in a bloody mood for rest of day.
The best thing I did in May was remove Twitter from my phone. It was far too easy to dwell on the shite news.

I'm coming to a realisation, and the fact is I've known it for a year or two, that the longer i spend off social media, the more time i actually spend being productive, doing things i want to do without that horrible nagging thought at back of mind that i'm missing something important. I'm not.

Bad news is bad enough without obsessively searching for it.

I'm using an app in the web browser called "stayfocusd". Makes it possible to "nuke" websites, as well as set time allowances for sites which I find feeding of my stress and anger. Helped me alot.

I donated blood today. First time doing so, and probably not the last. Donated the compensation to Doctors without boarders. Also got a little juice carton, crisp bread and iron supplements. #winwin

The Jackson Kong is good fun, especially the ludicrously long extended edition (best watched as a mini-series). Its main failing is that it's not a patch on the original, but then it's hardly alone in that.

I'll definitely give the extended version a try someday (days) :)

Remember enjoying LotR ext. that way. A couple of chapter per day. Much better than watching them all in one day. Did that once...
