++Well, basically, the deal is that the estate of H. G. Wells seem to be very selective about what they'll allow. So while they allow the Invisible Man for the comics, for some reason they won't allow him for the movies. Yet they allowed the recent movie version of The Time Machine. Go figure.++

Of course, it did help a bit that Simon Wells, the director of The Time Machine, is the great grandson of H.G. Wells...

++And, somewhat appropriately:

"Ooh, I've wasted my life"++

Comic Shop Guy from the Simpsons, shortly before being annihilated by a French atomic bomb during one of the Halloween episodes.

All too easy...

++Signs and Portents is due for release during the last week of July and will feature The Long Walk Judge prestige class, with more Dredd and Slaine material coming in the next few months.++

More specifically, it will feature an article on the Undercity, the Undercity Long Walk Judge prestige class, rules for manufacturing home-made ammunition and either an Undercity Dweller prior life template or the Junk Prospector citizen prestige class.

++I see that they mention a magazine "signs and portents" as a place for new material, but there's no mention of it on the main site++

It's under the 'New Releases' section for 'This Month' about half way down the Mongoose home page - it's not available yet, last I heard it was due out in the last week of July.

There was also 'Tomb of the Judges' in prog 390-something to 390-something, which establishes that the Justice Department can transplant a healthy brain without a body into a healthy body without a brain.

Chief Judge Goodman had weekly rejuve treatments (he was assassinated on the way back from his last one).

He's still about - he's recently been doing the inking for the comic strip in 'Doctor Who Magazine'.

Yep - an excellent slice of classic cult TV. That last manifestation makes my spine tingle every time.

Although, as it's a BBC drama from the 70's the acting mainly consists of small groups of people standing around shouting at each other. And don't read the sleeve notes before you watch it as it gives away the entire story (and then some)...

Megazine / Re: The Dredd text tale in the Meg...

++At the risk of seeming dim, I have to ask for help on this month's prose tale. As far as the ending goes: duh?++

I assumed it was a double bluff...Judge X was a real judge and the heisters were in the Wally Squad, despite what Garcia says.

++I don't get it at all. Who is Judge X? What's Rat Town?++

Rat Town District, Sector 76, is the headquarters of the Wally Squad in the Judge Dredd Roleplaying Game. It houses the second largest Justice Department training facility to be found in Mega-City One (as a typical judge will require extensive training to look and act like a citizen. He's just spent fifteen years learning how to look and act like a judge, after all...) Clearly, Jonathan Clements is using 'The Rookie's Guide to the Justice Department' and 'The Judge Dredd Roleplaying Game' as referance material, not realising that they've only been read by about fifteen people.

++Generally, what happened at the end?++

Uh, 'Apocalypse Soon' starts. Do pay attention, your highness...

++Also, I thought Garcia was female. Why is he/she suddenly male?++

Probably the source material again - the SJS entry in the RPG states that the Deputy Chief of the SJS is called Garcia, but doesn't say what sex she is...

Be careful - I have it on good authority (from a friend of a friend, the traditional expert in such matters) that if you log-on to any 2000AD related website and type the name 'Scojo' three times, he will appear in person and fill the entire forum with pointless trolling and ranting about his 'screenplays'.

Let us never speak of this again...

++Lobo Baggins? More like Scojo if you ask me, the ++ITEM++ heading gives it away. I'm starting a book, how long will he last this time? Any bets?++

I am not Scojo! I am a human being!

My name is Matt Sharp, one of the co-writers for the Mongoose roleplaying game. Among other things, I was responsible (along with Caliber) for the 'Sentencing' section of the rulebook which is being used in the text story of this months Megazine (spitting isn't specifically covered, you see...)

This site seems to have rather more than its fair share of Matt's, so I thought I'd call myself something else.
