General / 2000AD related updates
21 February, 2003, 01:54:04 PM
So, just to tell me the state of play, just where are we in relation to the Judge Dredd Film and the Dredd vs Death PC game? Both have been promised for such a long time, but recently we have had no updates. I would just like to know.

General / Bring Back the Old Masters
02 February, 2003, 08:03:00 PM
I would like The Mighty One to run a series of posters called the Old Masters. He did this a long time ago and I really liked this. The greats did a Star Scan featuring all the 2000AD characters which they drew over the years. One of my favourites was Bellardinelli. At the time, I didn't even know that he did some of the early Dredd strips.

Also, does anyone know if we can get these scans as a print, as I certainly wouldn't mind a couple.

General / Slaine's Travels in Time
12 January, 2003, 10:41:10 PM
Sorry if I am repeating a question that you have already answered but it occurs to me that when Slaine was doing his time travelling, meeting up with such characters as Boudicia, William Wallace, King Arthur  and becoming Robin Hood, he never got to that great Irish hero C?chulainn. Did Pat Mills not want Slaine and C?chulainn to meet?

When are we getting more of those Alternative Reality stories? I quite liked them.

Off Topic / First Human Clone
31 December, 2002, 03:28:44 AM
We all know now that a cult in Canada have claimed to be the first to produce a human cloned baby. I would like to hear your opinions on this.
Do you think that they are speaking the truth?
Could it be a hoax?
What is your feelings on cloning humans anyway? Good/Bad/Evil/messing with nature/?

Tell me what you think.

General / Channel 4 "100 Best Films"
30 December, 2002, 06:28:24 AM
I see Star Wars/Empire Strikes Back is the best movie(s) ever made. I don't have a problem with that, but some of the others included; what kind of criteria was being used?

Also another thing: There was some guy deconstructing "Toy Story" like it was some damning inditement on suburban life. Excuse me, but this is a kid's film! I think people can read too much into these things. It reminds me of the person who believe "Bagpuss" was a Marxist reflection of the capitalist societies of the early 20th Century!

General / Is 2000AD anti-religion
06 December, 2002, 04:11:52 AM
As a regular reader of the Galaxy's Greatest Comic, I cannot help but notice a distinctive slant against religion in general and Christianity in particular.

More often than not organised religion in 2000AD is depicted as evil. Torquemada of course started the trend. Religions seem always to be against what is depicted as good.

Slaine: Pagans=Good, Christians=evil
Johnny Alpha: New Church=genocidal against mutants.
Nemesis: Chaos=Good, Religion=evil against aliens and those who wouldn't follow Torquemada's crusade.

Apart from Canon Fodder, I can't think of a story that portrays organised religion in a positive light. I remember recently in the Meg, a Scottish Minister was a good man, and there was the priest in Robusters, but that's about it.

Is this policy in 2000AD? I suppose organised religions are too institutional to be portrayed in any other way.

Prog / Asylum
05 December, 2002, 03:53:05 AM
Did we really NEED to see a picture of a defecating churchman in this week's Asylum? I might be out of line, but I think we could have done without it. I think we went over the border of taste a little there...

Prog / Asylum

Apologises if it has been said before, but did anyone notice a cameo of an alien species first featured on Judge Dredd in this week's episode of Asylum?

General / A-Z of Cal-Hab

Hello all.
I've come up with a website about the Scotland of Judge Dredd's universe. Based loosely around the A-Z of Dredd book, I've put in as much as I could find about Cal-Hab from 2000ad and the Megazine. Wakes been giving me a few pointers but it would still be nice to hear from some of the rest of you. Tell me what you think.
Thanks

Help! / Dredd in Cal-Hab
08 September, 2002, 02:31:09 AM
Here's a question that's been bugging me. I remember a story which involved Dredd and Mean Machine Angel going to Cal-Hab and fighting with some hard headed mutants. Can anyone tell me if this was in 2000AD or the Meg and if so, which issue it was in?

Off Topic / The Movie Game
04 May, 2002, 04:40:10 PM
Rules of movie game:

1) Don't talk about movie game

2) Whoever answers with a movie title, gets to list the next one.

3)Questions shall be in the following form: ''Name a movie which takes place on an island.''

4) Answers will be in the following form: ''Castaway''

5) Questions must apply to more than one movie.

6) After you answer a question, you get to ask a question. The question must be somehow related to the movie you just answered with. (i.e. if you answered ''Castaway'', your question could be ''Name another movie starring Tom Hanks'')

7) If two people reply to the same question, the question of the person whose reply was posted first continues.

Everyone understand? Good!

I will get the ball rolling:

Name a movie featuring car racing.

I got this idea from another site I was looking at.

Prog / Prog 1286 Future Shock
13 April, 2002, 04:57:56 PM
I'm not normally a fan of the recent Future Shocks. I think most of it been done before or is of poor quality anyway. So I was pleasantly surprised by this week's offering. I have to admit, it was a good one. I liked the idea of a brutal war being cleaned up for public consumption, and the way some heroes can be manufactured while the truly brave are unknown and forgotten. The bit at the end with the dead soldier's twin boys completely taken in by the propaganda was good as well.

Here's a thought which came to me when reading the Bad Company reprint in the Meg.
Why was Mad Tommy's worst fear about Hitler and Churchill? After all, we find out later that he was only faking his madness to avoid being killed by Kano.

I see from the online survey that the results are printed on your "profile page". Excuse my ignorance but:
What is a profile page? and
How do you create one here?

General / DC Dredd
30 December, 2001, 08:25:17 PM
Just a question out of curiosity. Did the DC Comics version of Judge Dredd ever catch on. I was initially drawn to this because I heard it gave us the story of Dredd set before he makes his 2000ad appearence. I got a few copies, but found the scripts not as good as the original version. I kind of gave up on them after that. Anyone know what happened to DC Dredd?
