I just work on A4 printer cartridge paper, and the differences it makes to the artwork are minimal, in all honesty. I also use both sides (unless I'm inking) and draw pictures in the gaps around other pictures until all the paper is filled. Then once it's all scanned the original often goes in the bin. So I'm not paticularly precious about it!

That said, Bristol Board is heavenly to work on. You might like to save it for an occassional treat like I do.  :D

This has been said above but bears repeating - the more you draw, the better you'll get.

I draw on anything I can muster for initial sketches and then will end to work to A3 size when pencilling finished pieces.

I concur that Bristol board is lovely to work on, especially if inking using traditional methods as the ink doesn't bleed at all as is the case when using some cartridge papers.

Rule of thumb - whatever rocks your boat.
