Anyone willing to bet that Sc*j* is working on his version of the screenplay at this very moment ?

Saw this comment on Facebook which I completely agree with.

"Writers of Dr Who are hamstrung by two fixed facts. 1) The Doctor can't die. 2) No matter what you write there will be grumpy old dicks waiting to kick the living dung out of anything you pen."

The rot set in with Peter Howell.

And Keff bloody McCulloch, and that guy whose music consisted of farting noises ('Earthshock', Resurrection Of The Daleks', The Twin Dilemma', 'Terror Of The Vervoids')

I read Dr Who books when I was 7 too. But I didn't carry on reading them until I was 27.

Looks like you missed out on quite a lot then, I grew up with the New Adventures and BBC novels. Those books included some of the best Doctor Who stories ever written, and they've been an influence on the new series.

I grew up with Who in the 80s, and started to read the Target novelisations around 1987. In 1989, I got my hands on The Programme Guide, which contained the plot summaries for every episode up to Logopolis. I was in no danger of not knowing who the Master was as he had appeared in every season between 1980 and 1986. My earliest TV memory is of the Marsh spiders attacking Romana in 'Full Circle', and the Doctor dissecting a spider later in the story.

If you think modern Doctor Who is complicated and confusing, try watching 1989's 'Ghostlight'. I can sort of understand that story, but most people don't.

And as for existing fans, is it fair to expect an eight year-old to remember what has been happening in a massive plot that started 3 or 4 years ago?

Have DVD box sets ceased to exist or summat ?

That might have been true in the 60s, 70s, and 80s as there were few or no repeats, and very few stories released on VHS, but not now due to DVDs and repeats on digital channels.

i first discovered the joy of black pudding in 1989 at blackbrn royal infirmary good on a toast butty

I 've always hated black pudding, though!

English black pudding is a wee bit on the minging side. I had some Bury Black Pudding a couple of years ago and it made me ill. The Scottish variety is far superior and tastes better, especially the Stornoway stuff.

Btw, is Brendan1's surname De Torquemada by any chance ?

Bugger all on the BBC about it, I think they're making it up personally

I think it was a disgruntled sheep what done it. ;-)

I see it's kicked off in Edinbugger now.
