Film & TV / Re: Last movie watched...
28 September, 2015, 09:32:09 PM
A bit late to the party,  but am soaking up several movies at the moment due to just getting Amazon Prime.

So I watched Pacific Rim the other night,  and despite expecting to absolutely loath it as ' over blown and ludicrous tripe', I found myself enjoying it immensely. Ok, it's not the greatest film I've ever seen, but it was extremely watchable and thoroughly enjoyable.
Provided that you switch of the real 'thinking part' of the brain, ( and don't question the plot too much ),  relax and immerse yourself in it,  there is a hell of a lot to enjoy here.

Books & Comics / Re: Whats everyone reading?

Read A Song Of Shadows by John Connolly instead, the latest in his Charlie Parker series. I enjoyed it and it seems that finally he's starting to move towards the climax hinted at for the past dozen or so books..

Got to agree with Colin Zeal here. I've been a fan of John Connollys' Charlie Parker series since about the 2nd or 3rd book,  and just love the way it's moving towards it's climax. Cannot recommend this series highly enough. If you enjoy a good crime thriller with supernatural overtones,  this is one series you need to catch. Great stuff.

Film & TV / Re: SENSE8 - Netflix original series

Thought Daredevil ( Netflix series ) is the best thing I've seen in a long time.....Just absolutely wonderful stuff.
Vincent D'Onofrio is absolutely fabulous ( as Wilson Fisk ) in it, and steals every scene he is in.....with ease !! ..
Continue watching CFM, you won't be disappointed..

Will give Sense8 a chance but not holding out too much hope.

Enjoyed the first series enormously, and looking forward to seeing the second series.
Hopefully it will follow the story 'arc' of the second book and this should make it very interesting.
Cheers.

Just managed to catch up with John Wick at my last visit to the cinema....I'd heard both good and bad reviews but thought I'd give it a try anyway..

Verdict as follows :
Hugely entertaining with an extremely high 'body count',  and lashings of stylish and skilfully choreographed violence.  ( A bit like Chow Yun Fat in Hard Boiled )..
A very 'slight' plot and Keanu was his usual self ....make of that what you will....

Just don't go looking for a thought provoking and intellect stimulating movie...Just go, sit back and enjoy a good 'shoot em up' movie.

After an admittedly, pretty poor opening episode,  this series has really warmed up...unfortunately it was towards the end,  and perhaps a little too late to capture an audience.
It's lead character is not particularly 'likeable',  which will always pose a problem when any new series starts....but he's not really likeable in the comics either....He's a complete and utter bastard, but there are reasons for that which become clearer as the series progresses.
For some reason I also didn't particularly 'take',  to the lead actor in the first few episodes, but I've stuck with it,  and found by the last few episodes the series ( and him ) have really come into their own, and I've found his portrayal of Constantine pretty close to the mark..
As others have said, there is a wealth of stories to plumb for material,  and I honestly hope that there is another series in the future.
Here's hoping anyway......and as Mr Campbell put so eloquently, .....When you see some of the shit that does get another series ( 4th ) .....you've really got to hope someone somewhere, will give this a series a chance.

Really saddened to hear about the death of Andy Fraser from Free.
Listening to Free was a big part of my young adulthood, and his bass playing was absolutely tremendous. Anyone who appreciates good music should take a listen to Mr Big ( from Free live ) to hear the phenomenal bass playing there.
Another sad loss and far, far too young at only 62.
RIP Andy.......I imagine you having a great jam session with your mate Koss,  wherever you are...RIP mate.

General / New McMahon Limited Edition Statues
02 March, 2015, 10:55:36 PM
Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has received their McMahon statues yet ?.
I've pre-ordered the 'line drawing' one and the 'black and white one' and they've not arrived yet...Any idea when they are likely to arrive..?   By the end of March...hopefully ??.

Also can anyone on this forum tell me how to order a 'colour' McMahon statue,  as this is the one I really want, but I cant seem to find any further details about who is likely to be selling it, when they are selling it and where I can pre-order from...
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Very much looking forward to seeing The Stranglers again at Manchester Academy on March 21st...

Saw them last year at the same venue,  and they were just amazing. A fabulously 'tight' band and very loud...
Wonderful stuff.
